The newly revised version was presented by the Simon Carrington Chamber Singers in June 2011. A Song of Joys is Walt Whitman's vast description of all of life’s—and death’s— joys, ranging from nature, love, and nostalgia, to more specific things like being a farmer, a soldier, mother, and reminiscing of catching lobsters by boiling them until they turn red. All of these ingredients—and many more—contribute to Whitman’s jubilant song. Selected passages from his lengthy poem have been set here for SATB divisi unaccompanied chorus.

It is the effective antiphony between female and male voices, four-part homophonic passages including four bars for two solo sopranos, rich dynamic nuances, staggered entries of the voices in imitation, and sound elements to be performed in an individual loop-like manner that make this sacred choral work special. For this work, the young composer was awarded the 3rd prize at the Composition Competition Musica Sacra.

Latin.Alwin Michael Schronen has long been known for his versatility and ability to compose works of varying degrees of difficulty. His setting of the Agnus Dei for eight-part mixed choir a cappella (SSAATTBB), which is more suitable for concert use despite the liturgical leaps in texture, represents a real, but extremely rewarding challenge for any concert choir. As it is bolero-like, this composition oozes completely split basses, therefore, providing an important, responsible foundation. The rest of the voices give this urgent, imploring character tonal repetitions, secondary parts, third-, fourth-, and fifths, as well as whispered or spoken passages to this extremely atmospheric piece of music. Eight parts, multiple key changes (F minor, F sharp minor, G minor) and the high note B'' in soprano 1, on which the longing for peace unloads, require an powerful and very intonationally-secure ensemble.

Latin.Almost 40 compositions, half of which written for accompanied and unaccompanied choir, can currently be found in the catalogue of works by the young Polish composer Katarzyna Danel (born in 1992). After winning several national composition prizes, she was awarded the 1st prize of the 13th International Composition Competition 'Musica Sacra Nova' 2016 for Misericordias Domini for eight-part mixed a cappella choir. The complex sacred a cappella choral work is based on the eponymous Gregorian chorale (Psalm 89:2). This Latin choral piece is characterized by three main structures: by aleatoric sound clouds in major pentatonic scales which are emphasized by sustained organum-like notes from the Gregorian chorale melody, on the one hand, by Renaissance-style polyphony combined with modern harmony, on the other hand, and finally, by long static chords merging in space and harmony. A wonderfully mystical, spherical composition which, by means of ad libitum passages marked in the musical text, even gives the performer the opportunity to interpret the piece individually.

Latin.This Ave Maria is an arrangement made by Bertold Hummel in December 1997 of his motet Gegrüßet seist du, Maria [Hail Maria] (C 53714) which he had composed on 20 May 1993 with a dedication in memory of his deeply religioues sister Erika. This Latin version was dedicated to the Cathedral Music Master Siegfried Koesler in Berold Hummel also co-founded the Bruckner Festival in Würzburg together with Koesler and Erwin Horn, a specialist in the opening section of their sorks and Bertold Humme quotes Bruckner's final cadence on the name of Jesus prios to the Amen. The text of the so-called Angelic Salutaion is based on the Bible passages from the Gospel of St Luke (luke 1, 28b, 42) which was extended over the centuries with additions such as Jesus (14th century) and the Invocation to Mary. This text was included in the Breviary of Pope Pius V in 1568 which officially confirmed its status as a prayer.
