As in the other Mosaic pieces, a series of early, unrelated sketches were reworked to create this piece. Mosaic III gradually introduces a rocking bell-like ostinato, adding a descending scale of harmonics. Indeed, the whole piece explores the harp's heritage as a folk instrument. There are tonal references to various modes, incorporating grace notes and folk-like melodies in the central section. The work is cast in a symmetrical arch form (ABCBA), with the opening section returning at the end, in reverse. The piece is highly accessible and is appropriate for most standards of harpist, including students and advanced players.

When that was completed, it was then simplified to form the B Version. The B Version has thinner lines and allows more time for placing the fingers. The B Version has thinner lines and allows more time for placing the fingers. The purpose is to permit harpists of various playing levels to enjoy performing together. This arrangement travels from the key of G, through the key of C to the key of F. The melody is equally divided between parts. Dynamics are clearly marked. You will receive the A Version score and  parts. Beethoven was influenced by the writings of Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller, a German poet, playwright, and historian. His 1785 poem, An die Freude (Ode to Joy), spoke to Beethoven of perfect, eternal spiritual bliss and the unity of nature.
