The lyrics tell of a nostalgic person missing his homeland and wishing he could move back to Carrickfergus. In this arrangement, the beautiful melody is augmented by flowing arpeggiated interludes representing the sound of waves from the sea. The Multi-level pieces were initially arranged in an A Version. When that was completed, it was then simplified to form the B Version. The B Version has thinner lines and allows more time for placing the fingers. The purpose is to permit harpists of various playing levels to enjoy performing together. In the key of G, the melody is divided evenly between parts. Dynamics are clearly marked.

This solo harp arrangement of Arrietty's Song from Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli's film The Secret World of Arrietty is wonderfully versatile, while preserving the key and overall character of Cecile Corbel's original piece. It can be played on a lever harp as small as 26 strings, with the lowest note being the C below middle C and the highest being the third G above middle C. It only requires one lever (the A below middle C) to be moved to effectively simulate the chorus key change. It captures both the iconic original celtic harp part, as well as the full melody (with Japanese lyrics taken into account), and also the building/shifting energy that the original piece achieved by adding additional instruments. I think it also successfully solves the problem of remaining interesting and dynamic throughout despite the song being so repetitive. In short, I am particularly proud of this arrangement.In part because it is so note-y, and because it just keeps moving with no room to rest or breathe, this is definitely one of the harder and more advanced pieces I have arranged for small/lap lever harp. It would still sound nice played under tempo, but you will need to maintain a consistent rhythm throughout. I advise practicing the left hand as blocked chords and paying particular attention to the right-hand octaves in the second rendition of the chorus.Please note that the preview cuts off after the first half-page of score. The left hand accompaniment is more developed than most of Mr. Mahan's selections. C and F levers required. Montecito Morning is in the key of D, 2 pages, with lovely embellished 7th harmonies. Walking Down Butterfly Lane is very easy to play, but the harmonies make up for the simplicity. Treasure of San Ysidro has a mysterious sound to it. Key of A minor with a variety of rhythmic changes throughout, an interesting composition to play. Canyon has a breezy feel to it, key of C, with an easy left hand. Lotusland as another mysterious sounding composition in the key of B minor, switching back and forth from ¾ to 6/8. Montecito Moon in ¾, key of C has a busy left hand, full rolled chords in the right hand along with moving eighth notes. A View from Eucalyptus Hill has a lovely melody with a variety of left hand changes throughout. Moves from ¾ to 4/4 and back to ¾. Sonata for Harp, Op. 17 was composed out of the desire to write for an instrument I had not previously written for at the time. The themes used throughout the entire sonata are revolved around the limitations of the harp pedals.The first movement, in Bb major, utilizes Sonata-Allegro form and revolves around the dialogue of two themes and constant motion, which are developed further in the development section. Structurally and tonally, the principles of this form, as well as the piece overall, is applied is the same as in a Mozart piece.The second movement, in E major, which is the tritone to Bb, is in ternary form and opens with a melody that represents prayer. Following this prayer is a chorale that gradually becomes more grandiose in nature. A motive of loud planing chords is the answer to this prayer, which is followed by the softer motive that transitions into the next section. The theme is a simple melody containing planing fifths in the left hand, which is accompanied by ornamentation in the right hand. In the final section, a combination of themes, including the initial prayer motive and chorale motive, return and closes the movement.The third movement, in Bb major, is also in ternary form with rondo-esque tendencies. One central theme culminates the final movement of this sonata, which is brought through different tonal centers. Furthermore, it is presented in the form of a waltz in the middle section of the piece. This recognizable theme from the 1993 film adaptation of The Secret Garden appears in several different tracks from the score, but most notably in Leaving the Docks and Showing Dickon Garden.I arranged the piece specifically for my 26-string Fullsicle Harpsicle harp, and it should fit on other small harp models with a similar range. But you can, of course, also play it on larger harp models (either lever or pedal), as well.Because the original version was a piano solo, I had to re-organize some of the left-hand chord structures to get it to fit the range of my small harp. But, even with this adaptation, I was able to keep it in the original key (two sharps, so D Major), meaning that owners of Sharpsicle Harpsicle models, and some Roosebeck Pakistani harps, should be able to play this piece, as well as Fullsicle Harpsicle model owners.There are no lever changes or extended techniques, but, at full-speed, the piece can prove much more challenging than it looks at first glance. In particular, I recommend practicing that quick, repetitive Alberti bass in the left-hand with a loose, exagerated oscillation movement to prevent tightness or injury. Also be wary of starting out at a speed that you can't maintain throughout the entirety of the performance. One of Carolan's best known and loved tunes. This tune works very well on the harp. I played this at every event I ever played at. No matter how many times I have heard and played this, it still moves me. The arrangement was changed many times. The setting on the harp is the key of G, but the melody is only half at home in the key. The metronome speed is only an indication, but this tune should not be played too fast. .

The Harp Serenade and Disintegration explores the many idiomatic sounds of the harp while exploring the diverse sounds it can create through extended techniques. Serenade focuses on melody and timbre with the extended technique of tapping on the soundboard as a main element. Disintegration mixes sounds and inspiration from Gershwin, Brubeck and Salzedo. The focus is on rhythm and glissandos. The piece is in a quasi-rondo form that unravels the melody and rhythmic refrain as the piece moves in time. The extended techniques used in Disintegration are soundboard tapping, harmonics, and vertical fingernail sliding up the strings.
