These two arrangements (one page each) may be played one after the other for a more varied arrangement, or either one may be played twice through to suit the level of the player. The early intermediate arrangement will fit on a small harp of 26 strings, and the more advanced arrangement can also fit 26 strings by omitting a few bass notes. Chord symbols are provided in both versions. Ample fingering suggestions are in the easy arrangement, and a few in the more advanced arrangement. Modern interpretations of early music. Although originally intended to be performed as duets, the pieces can also work nicely as solos by playing the harp 1 part and omitting Harp 2. The Highlander's Farewell to Ireland is a wire harp solo. Designations gut or nylon harp and Celtic harp are interchangeable; the gut or nylon distinction is made in pieces that call for wire-strung harp as Harp II in order to clarify the need for the two distinct sound colors. Harmonics are played where written. Fingerings are generally omitted except for damping suggestions in The Highlander's Farewell. This book contains only the score, with harp 1 and harp 2 on the same page. Page turns have been adjusted so they are as easy as possible.

It gained even more popularity upon being featured in Walt Disney films “So Dear to My Heart†in 1948 and “Cinderella†in 2015. All parts may be played on Lever (Celtic) harp or Pedal harp. This arrangement may be played as an easy solo by only harp 1 (omit the measures of rest at the beginning and end), but is especially charming with the addition of the intermediate harp 2 part. For example, a teacher may play the harp 2 part to accompany harp 1, making a lovely recital piece for a beginning student. The harp 1 part includes lyrics so that it may (optionally) be sung by the harp 1 player. The optional harp 3 part is even easier than harp 1, and may be played by another beginning student. Cello or bassoon may be substituted for harp 3.

It can be played on a lap harp model as small as 26 strings, like the Harpsicle Fullsicle that I am playing in the video, or on a larger floor harp. Your model must have levers, though, as the melody changes keys repeatedly and so relies on several quick lever changes.The lowest note is the E below middle C and the highest is the G two octaves above middle C. As such, it should work on many common small or lap harp models, including Harpsicle harps, some Roosebeck Pakistani harps (depending on the range), Dusty Strings Ravenna 26, Marini Made lap harps, Heartland Harps Air Serenity, and many others. As noted above, it can also work on a larger floor harp with levers.The piece is light, quick, and repetative. By far the hardest element in my opinion is the succession of levers changes in the melody, though these come easier with practice. But less experienced harpists may also want to take into account that there are a few harmonics, played on both hands, in the middle section, and that the song will sound odd if these are omitted.Please note that the preview cuts off after the first half page of score. This arrangement of Captain Picard's Air from the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode The Inner Light is fitted specifically to the range of a 26-string lever harp, like Harpsicle Harps or Dusty String Ravenna. While there are some complex rhythms and silences to count through, the notation itself is relatively simple -- intended to reflect the sparse, lonely/hopeful nature of the original song, which was played on a solo pennywhistle.It is written in the key of G Major (one sharp), which means it can be played on Harpsicle models that are not fully levered (e.g. Sharpsicles, as well as Fullsicles), and there are no lever changes or accidentals. If the harmonics are omitted, and the dotted rhythms counted carefully, this piece could be accessible to a late-beginner, at least from a technique standpoint. Beginner harpists who have little or no prior background in reading sheet music might struggle with the leger lines, though.Please note that the preview cuts off after the first half-page of score. The student (easy) part compliments the teacher part, and consists mainly of melody, single notes in both hands, no chords, very easy, some drones in the left hand. The right hand plays quite high, so a knowledge of notes above the treble staff is necessary. Dynamics and fingerings are marked. Each tune is written to segue into the next, making it a very nice recital piece. The first (study version) is printed using big fonts for a comfortable reading.
