A #1 hit single for B.J. Thomas, the song was written in 1969 for the movie "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid." It went on to win a Grammy for Best Original Song.

The song is arranged for mountain dulcimer in 1-5-8 or DAD tuning and is intended for the intermediate level player with a knowledge of three finger chords and chord-melody style of playing.

The primary challenge will be the numerous syncopated rhythms found throughout the arrangement. Use of a 1 fret is optional. Simply substitute an open string for the 1 fret.
