Gone Fishin' is not a traditional cadence, and was written to be a fun groovy chop workout primarily featuring diddles and paradiddles, while also utilizing a varying time signature between 6/8 and 9/8 throughout. A 7/8 bottom bass (preferred 5th bass) groove is sure to interest both other percussionists and casual viewers! Gone Fishin' can serve as a great exercise for intermediate drumlines looking to work on accent vs. tap height with diddles and paradiddles, work on counting and playing in mixed-meter time signatures, and is great for the lot or the stands! Both a full score and individual parts are included with PDF download. As for the title, the main motif came to me while I was out fishin'. Need a cool groove for parades that's quick to learn? This easy cadence can help! Fast to learn and simple to memorize, it lays down a solid beat that the band can lock in on. Easy Duzzit involves the full field battery, but it's playable with just a snare, tenors, and one bass drum. Parts are written for 1-4 basses, snare drums, a quint tenor part, a rhythmically easier quad part, and crash cymbals. The cadence has an A and B section. A can be repeated at will and B has an optional repeat back to the A section, so the groove can last as long as you wish. Buttered Toast is a groove-based, simple cadence with some harder featured moments to challenge up and coming players. The beginning is subtle and gradually leads up to the primary groove section, which is repeated three times separated by transition and/or featured sections. The distinct sections allow for an instructor to include or remove any section they like, depending on time or personal preferences. Either matched or traditional grip can be used for the snares. The bass splits are meant to give new players a little challenge, but are still straightforward enough to add some taste while not being complicated rhythmically. This cadence works great for marching with the band at a steady 116 bpm, and because it is split into distinct sections, makes great filler for in the stands. Both a full score and individual parts are included with PDF download. As for the name, I came up with the main groove portion while having toast (with butter).
