Each instrument leads with the melody and all three instruments have an accompaniment role which features attractive counter melodies working in counterpoint. The performance duration is two and a half minutes and the full score has some phrasing suggestions and all individual parts attached. This arrangement is ideal for High School and church ensembles looking for accessible and innovative repertoire for the Christmas season. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1324522). It Came Upon the Midnight Clear is an 1849 poem and Christmas carol written by Edmund Sears, a pastor of the Unitarian Church in Wayland, Massachusetts. The lyrics were set to the tune Carol by Richard Storrs Willis in the United States, while in Commonwealth countries, the lyrics are set to Noel, a later adaptation by Arthur Sullivan from an English melody. The whole song comprises five stanzas, and some versions omit certain verses. Interestingly, the Christmas carol doesn't explicitly mention the birth of the Savior, making it unique among Christmas songs.

This is a collection of 12 Trios (or Duets) arranged for Violin, Viola and Cello, based on melodies of beloved traditional christian hymns. Melodies are harmonized mostly by interweaving counter melodies. The Violin and Viola (or Violin II) are, at times, alternating melody and counter melodies, rather than the traditional vocal parts found in church hymnals. The result is a more interweaving flow of melody and counter melody. The Cello provides the bass, as it also contributes to the counter melodious sound. A Violin II part has been added to duplicate the Viola, in case a Viola is not available. These pieces also work very nicely as duets without the Cello; or duets with the Violin and Cello. Designed for early intermediate musicians, the collection is ideal for prelude or postlude music and especially offertories in worship services, funerals, weddings, etc . Length of the pieces can be altered by using more or less of the repeats included. The last two pieces are based on melodies from Christmas hymns. In addition, these pieces have a technical training value, as would etudes and exercises, due to the moving counter melodies that may challenge students at the early intermediate level. Though written to challenge students at the early intermediate level, more advanced musicians and audiences will find this music quite satisfying to play and enjoy, respectively. String class teachers may consider using this collection in class, as the entire Violin, Viola or Cello sections will be in unison, as a section, which provides support to players within their section. At same time, the other sections would be playing other parts, also in unison as a section - a good ensemble practice tool. The class might perform pieces from this collection in concert. Titles: Count Your Blessings, I Must Tell Jesus, In the Garden, Jesus Loves Even Me, Let All Things Now Living, O How I Love Jesus, O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus, Take Time to be Holy, The Old Rugged Cross, This is My Father's World; and two Christmas pieces: It Came Upon a Midnight Clear and Silent Night! Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1327200). The Christmas carol Angels We Have Heard on High is sung to the hymn Gloria, a traditional French carol. The phrase Gloria in Excelsis Deo is a memorable feature of the chorus, where the o of Gloria is fluidly sustained through 16 notes of a rising and falling melismatic. The carol commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ as narrated in the Gospel of Luke, specifically the scene outside Bethlehem where shepherds encounter many angels singing and praising the newborn child. The Gloria is believed to have inspired the chorus in Angels We Have Heard on High, it is considered one of the earliest known Christmas hymns. The melody uses the effect of a refrain and is one of the few texts that congregations sing regularly in Latin: Gloria in excelsis Deo!. The phrase Gloria has a rich history, with reports indicating that in 129 A.D., Pope Telesphorus ordained that the Gloria be sung at the Christmas Eve midnight mass. The melody has been popularized worldwide and has become a holiday standard.
