"Take Me Home, Country Roads", also known as "Take Me Home" or "Country Roads", is a song written by Bill Danoff, Taffy Nivert, and John Denver. This arrangement is for string trio, and can be played by either two violins and a cello, or a violin, viola and cello. The middle part is included in both treble (V2) and alto (viola) clef, giving you greater performance flexibility.
The arrangement has lots of ornamentation in the form of eighth note and sixteenth note movement, creating a sense of flow against the melody.

My arrangement takes it from a 60's pop song to a gentle jazz ballad. It is totally reharmonized and has a fresh new feel. The melody is the same, except it has a new Time Signature. The song was originally in 6/8 but I have set it in 1/2 in order to get the pulse and phrasing I want. (Yes, 1 minim/half note per bar.) The original accompaniment was broken arpeggios, but now it is all about the rich new blocked chords. With repeats and a D.S. I have covered all 4 verses and bridges. Enjoy a fresh take on this forever classic. This collection is comprised of Oh Sing a Song of Bethlehem (KINGSFOLD), Veni, Veni Emmanuel, and Shepherd Serenade, arranged for intermediate String Trio (Violin, Viola, Cello). This arrangement of KINGSFOLD presents the melody with a chordal accompaniment pattern in the first verse. It then moves into a contrapuntal trio and finishes with a rousing third verse that returns to the chordal accompaniment pattern to end the arrangement. The haunting Advent carol, Veni, Veni, Emmanuel, is arranged reflectively to encourage contemplation of the coming of the Christ Child. The prelude length medley, Shepherd Serenade, presents several songs centered around shepherds. It contains both Christmas and non-Christmas melodies (The Lord's My Shepherd (BROTHER JAMES' AIR), Rise Up, Shepherds and Follow (FOLLOW), The King of Love My Shepherd Is (ST COLUMBA), He Shall Feed His Flock from Handel's Messiah, and Who Is He in Yonder Stall). The arrangement is unified by the underlying idea that God is our shepherd (Psalm 23) and maybe the angels came first to tell the glad tidings of great joy to the shepherds because our Lord has a special place in his heart for shepherds. Each part takes a turn playing the melody. Published by Sandy McIntire (A0.1147361). What Wondrous Love Is This is arranged here for an easy intermediate string trio (violin, viola and cello). This American Christian hymn is taken from William Walker's Southern Harmony (1835), a shape note hymnal. The lyrics of the hymn were first published in 1811 and the melody is older with sources referring to various origins. Each of the four iterations builds on the melody. The second and third are variations in baroque style. A score and single sheets for each instrument are included. This arrangement is appropriate for Lent and Easter holidays, and its modal key and rhythm make it particularly appropriate for a processional or memorial piece.

This String Trio has been written for general performance and above all for the pleasure of the performer. I am aiming for maximum flexibility for the performers. All written dynamics are not to be taken too literally. Never think too much about volume (eg pianissimo is quiet and forte is loud), but rather think about the application of the bow (as in softer bowing for pianissimo passages and stronger/heavy bowing for forte passages)and think of the rising and falling dynamics as breathing. Also there are no specific bowings (accept for a down bow at the beginning of each movement). I will leave that to the discretion of the performers so they can decide what works best for their playing styles and technical possibilities (there is no need to follow slurs to the letter providing the slurred passages are smooth as I intend). One more thing is that the software I used doesn't make key changes as visible as I like so I have written a note to indicate said key changes. I hope anyone who plays this receives maximum enjoyment from my composition. Happy music making!

This String Trio has been written for general performance and above all for the pleasure of the performer. I am aiming for maximum flexibility for the performers. All written dynamics are not to be taken too literally. Never think too much about volume (eg pianissimo is quiet and forte is loud), but rather think about the application of the bow (as in softer bowing for pianissimo passages and stronger/heavy bowing for forte passages)and think of the rising and falling dynamics as breathing. Also there are no specific bowings (accept for a down bow at the beginning of each movement). I will leave that to the discretion of the performers so they can decide what works best for their playing styles and technical possibilities (there is no need to follow slurs to the letter providing the slurred passages are smooth as I intend). One more thing is that the software I used doesn't make key changes as visible as I like so I have written a note to indicate said key changes. Technically, they contain a wide variety of ideas which are developed with great ingenuity through a wide range of keys, dynamic contrasts and timbral effects. Aesthetically, they blend 'popular' and 'learned' taste along with 'orchestral' splendour and 18th century notions of beauty. The Trios present a dazzling range of moods and style with each work demonstrating Shield's mastery of the idiom, both in his treatment of individual instruments and in the handling of textures. While there is no shortage of melody and accompaniment, in which the violin takes the lead, there are many memorable solos for the viola and the cello in its high register. The wide range of textures includes melodic decoration, dialogue, contrast of high and low register, legato and staccato, powerful unison and double octaves. Shield's ability to incorporate arioso-like melody, the prevailing 'symphonic' style and folk elements was largely achieved through the cross-generic requirements of English comic opera (a form to which Shield devoted himself during the whole of his creative career). In general, Shield's technique results in a firm control of the way music moves - with sometimes a surprising degree of stylistic restlessness and sometimes of unexpected plainness and simplicity.
