Arranged string quartet.Changed key from C min to E min to suit the string quartet.Kleiner Trauermarsch (Little Funeral March) in C minor, K. 453a is a keyboard work composed in 1784 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, written in the notebook of his student Barbara Ployer.The piece is also sub titled Marche funebre del Sigr Maestro Contrappunto (Funeral March for Mr. Master/Maestro Counterpoint). It was dedicated to Barbara Ployer.It was first published in 1930. The autograph was thought to have been lost in 1945.Mozart was Ployer's teacher, so the sub title would seem to be another musical joke about himself.Is is quite short.

Published by Helen Marple-Horvat (A0.749203). ‘Kissing You’ was written for the 1996 film Romeo and Juliet by Des’ree Weekes and Tim Atack, with the gorgeous string arrangements by Craig Armstrong. It is a much loved song, very well received by the critics and public alike, and hugely popular at weddings. As well as this arrangement for singer and string quartet/string orchestra, I also have an arrangement for string quartet without the singer, where the first violinist has the vocal line. The Quartet version can be found on my 'Skinny Black Dogs' Youtube Channel by typing in 'Romeo and Juliet, Kissing You.' The string parts in this version are almost identical to the quartet version but require fewer moments of double stopping as the singer carries the tune. The parts are not difficult to play, and the key is easy for strings. My bowing is just a guide, and less experienced players can easily change the bow more often. There is a tricky part for cello at Bar 28, but with a little help from a good teacher, I’m sure that it is not impossible. The cellist in my recording plays it very lightly, and it could also be done in thumb position, played an octave lower, or simplified. It is important to stick to a strict tempo so that the singer can pull against the barline. Take a look at my Quartet version on Youtube, but bear in mind that this one is a lot easier for the first violin.

As usual, the first violin has the hardest part in trying to sustain the slow melody with a good vibrato, but my bowing is just a guide, and less experienced players can easily change the bow more often. There is some double stopping, in order to get all the necessary notes into those beautiful chords which thickens the texture, but almost all of it has an open string as one of the notes. There is a tricky part for cello at Bar 28, but with a little help from a good teacher, I’m sure that it is not impossible. The cellist in my Youtube recording plays it very lightly, and it could also be done in thumb position, played an octave lower, or simplified. There is also a cello solo in fourth position at bar 14 including the high harmonic A. There needs to be room for some rubato in the song and the lead needs to be taken from whomever has the tune! The hymn has its origins in a song fragment collected by Niles on July 16, 1933.[1][2][3][4][5]While in the town of Murphy in Appalachian North Carolina, Niles attended a fundraising meeting held by evangelicals who had been ordered out of town by the police.[1][5] In his unpublished autobiography, he wrote of hearing the song:A girl had stepped out to the edge of the little platform attached to the automobile. She began to sing. Her clothes were unbelievable dirty and ragged, and she, too, was unwashed. Her ash-blond hair hung down in long skeins. ... But, best of all, she was beautiful, and in her untutored way, she could sing. She smiled as she sang, smiled rather sadly, and sang only a single line of a song.[2]The girl, named Annie Morgan, repeated the fragment seven times in exchange for a quarter per performance, and Niles left with three lines of verse, a garbled fragment of melodic material—and a magnificent idea.[2][5] (In various accounts of this story, Niles hears between one and three lines of the song.[2][4][5][6]) Based on this fragment, Niles composed the version of I Wonder as I Wander that is known today, extending the melody to four lines and the lyrics to three stanzas.[2][3][5] His composition was completed on October 4, 1933.[2] Niles first performed the song on December 19, 1933, at the John C. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.575837). Originally written for a Delian suite for various composers remembering Schoenberg back in 2006, I have now revised it and provided separate parts. The piece is atonal and satirically based on Twinkle twinkle little star by way of a supposed reaction from Pluto after it was relegated from planet to dwarf planet by astronomers here on earth. I wrote the following introduction for the Delian suite version: 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star' (Jane Taylor's poem used for the tune to the French song Ah, vous dirai-je maman) is given an atonal treatment, for string quartet, in memory of the 'lost' planet of Pluto. Of course Pluto is still there, merely changed in the human taxonomy, which deems it to be no longer a planet. Similarly Twinkle, Twinkle is no longer a nursery rhyme but a strange atonal piece with memories of its past self moving towards an unknown space. It will be curious to know at which age a child recognises the twinkle-twinkle motif in this new, totally untraditional version. However, atonal though it is, it still appears to have some kind of 'home.' 'Ah, vous dirai-je maman, ce qui cause mon tourment,' ce n'est plus la petite chanson d'enfants, elle s'en va vers les étoiles dans un astronef de quatuor à cordes atonal. Son tourment?: Sa lamentation ne vise que la taxonomie humaine des planètes-Pluton, tu n'est plus planète? Maman! où se trouve la réalité, où se trouve notre domicile? Nous avons tous nos taxonomies, mais la réalité est en dehors... Le sens de tonalité est en dehors... Mais malgré tout, on reconnaît la mélodie... N'est-ce pas?.
