String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 2 - SKU: A0.1042755 By The Beatles. By John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Pop,Rock. 7 pages. RayThompsonMusic #647539. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1042755). We Can Work It Out is a song by the English rock band the Beatles, written by Paul McCartney and John Lennon. It was first issued as a double A-side single with Day Tripper in December 1965.It also appeared on the 1966 US release Yesterday and Today. The release marked the first time in Britain that both tracks on an artist's single were promoted as joint A-sides.The song was recorded during the sessions for the band's Rubber Soul album. The single was number 1 in Britain (where it won the Ivor Novello Award for the top-selling A-side of 1965), the United States, Australia, Canada and Ireland. In the UK, it was the seventh highest selling single of the 1960s.We Can Work It Out is a comparatively rare example of a Lennon–McCartney collaboration from this period in the Beatles' career, in that it recalls the level of collaboration the two songwriters had shared when writing the group's hit singles of 1963. This song, A Day in the Life, Baby, You're a Rich Man and I've Got a Feeling, are among the notable exceptions.Arranged string quartet Video is the clarinet quartet version.

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 2 - SKU: A0.1206658 By Oh Wonder. By Oh Wonder. Arranged by Graham Boag. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Film/TV. Score and parts. 11 pages. Graham Boag #804840. Published by Graham Boag (A0.1206658). Oh Wonder is the debut studio album by English alt-pop duo Oh Wonder, self-released on 4 September 2015. The album is the accumulation of singles released monthly throughout 2014–2015, in addition to two unreleased songs. The song All We Do is featured in the opening credits of the ITV crime drama Unforgotten, at the end of the Miss Taken episode of the CBS drama Elementary, in an episode of ITV's Coronation Street, and in the 2015 MTV American slasher horror series Scream. Scream also featured the song Shark in season 1 episode 2, and Technicolor Beat in season 1 episode 5. The song Drive was used in the pilot episode of the 2015 BBC drama Doctor Foster. “White Blood was featured in season 3, episode 2 of The CW drama Reign. The first verse of the song Landslide was sampled in rapper Lil Uzi Vert's song The Way Life Goes from their album Luv Is Rage 2, as well as retaining some of the original vocals, so Oh Wonder are credited as featured artists on the song. Unforgotten is a British crime drama television series, which initially aired on ITV on 8 October 2015. It was created and written by Chris Lang and directed by Andy Wilson. The programme follows a team of London detectives led by DCI Cassie Stuart (Nicola Walker) (Series 1–4), DCI Jess James (Sinéad Keenan) (Series 5) and DI Sunny Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar) as they solve cold cases of disappearance and murder. Each series consists of six episodes. Series 1 to 4 were broadcast in the UK in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2021. On 30 March 2021 a fifth series was announced, scheduled for release in 2023, and it was confirmed that Sanjeev Bhaskar would reprise his role. A year later it was confirmed that Sinéad Keenan would replace Walker as Bhaskar's new partner, DCI Jessica Jessie James. Filming for the fifth series began on 14 March 2022. The first episode of series 5 premiered on ITV in February 2023.Each series deals with a new case, introducing seemingly unconnected characters who are gradually revealed to have some relationship with the victim. As the murder mystery unfolds, the emotional ramifications of the crime on the lives of those affected are also explored. Unforgotten has received critical acclaim. Tom Courtenay won the 2016 BAFTA TV Award for Best Supporting Actor for the first series and Mark Bonnar won the 2017 BAFTA Scotland for Best Actor in Television for the second series. Â

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 5 - SKU: A0.534551 Composed by Jacques Leguerney. 20th Century. Score and parts. 83 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3627075. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.534551). French composer Jacques Leguerney (1906-1997) has been recognized for his outstanding oeuvre of songs for voice and piano, mostly composed upon poems of the French poets of the Pleiade. After his death, the Leguerney Estate decided to allow the publication of his instrumental chamber music. These works, many of which were written in his early years, are valuable contributions to the French chamber music repertoire, representing the 20 century from its early yearsthrough World War II. This sonata was composed during October and November of 1925. This edition is based upon one autograph manuscript of the full score, as well as a manuscript copy of the revised first movement which contains nuances marked probably by Leguerney. There is no indication that it was premiered, although the ms copy of the first movement would seem to indicate that that movement at the least received a reading. We have added rehearsal numbers, and corrected a few notational mistakes in the manuscript.

Published by Lisa Cameron (A0.923563). A fun cello quartet with parts of varying difficulty for ensemble players of mixed abilities. Cello 3 and 4 share a dialogue or echo and response, working primarily with open strings and first fingers. Cello 2 stays in first position but meets some rhythmic challenges, while Cello 1 shifts into 3rd position at times and also has some exciting rhythms. Perfect for school or adult ensembles. Great for building and extending foundations in an ensemble context.

String Quartet Cello,Double Bass,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 1 - SKU: A0.767773 By Queen. By Brian May. Arranged by Ellen Harle. Rock. Score and parts. 11 pages. Fireworks Music #4365586. Published by Fireworks Music (A0.767773). This arrangement of the eternally popular We Will Rock You is for early beginner to later beginner string players. The ease of playing the chorus makes it an ideal choice for even the earliest lessons, involving only notes on D string for Violin, viola and Cello, and including an open G for bass. The solo part is of a more difficult level for students slightly further along in their playing journey, or for a teacher to play. Both the easy chorus and harder solo part are printed together on one page for each instrument. This arrangement can be played with one soloist plus beginner ensemble, or a number of soloists, and is also a great choice for a first exploration into playing electric or amplified instruments if available.

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1198465 By Dave Matthews Band. By Dave Matthews Band and Mark Batson. Arranged by Charles Gunsaullus. Pop,Rock,Singer/Songwriter,Wedding. 8 pages. Charles Gunsaullus #797608. Published by Charles Gunsaullus (A0.1198465). Here is an arrangement for string quartet of one of Dave Matthew's Band's most requested wedding songs. Lovers of DMB will adore this at other functions besides weddings, and this could even be a nice addition to a regular performance. The parts are not difficult. The first violin does get into 4th position, and the rhythm is a little tricky at times. This arrangement is transposed down a half-step to make the big key change for the bridge more manageable. Any intermediate to advanced ensemble should be able to play this well.

Tenor and string quartet - SKU: S9.Q6385 Auf Texte aus der Bibel. Composed by Naji Hakim. This edition: score and parts. Downloadable, Score and parts. Duration 7 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q6385. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6385). German • English. This piece shows my hope to have our churches not only in peace but also in full communion. Naji Hakim Die Taube (The Dove) was commissioned by â€Kirchenmusik bei St. Anna Augsburg†to celebrate the 450th anniversary of the Augsburger Religionsfrieden (Religious peace of Augsburg). It is based on three biblical verses related to peace : Gen. 8/11, Luk. 1/79, Joh. 14/27. The music is through composed and develops the character of the verses with contrasted string textures, putting in relief the expressive vocal line, declamation of light and happiness. The work exists in three versions : 1. for Tenor and string quartet, 2. for Tenor and string orchestra, 3. for Tenor and organ. First performance : by Robert Sellier, Tenor, Capella St. Anna Streichquartett, St. Anna Augsburg, Festkonzert zum Hohen Friedensfest, 8 August 2005. Gen.8/11 : â€And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off. †Luk. 1/79 : â€To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. †Joh.14/27 : â€Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you. †...to guide our feet into the way of peace. (Luke 1,79) Words and music bind people together to form fellowships which guide us into the way of peace. Singing or playing together combine bodies and souls, so that our rhythm and breathing becomes one - a sense of belonging to one another is created which instils the very nature of peace. So it is that by becoming an integral part of the music, our feet are guided 'into the way of peace'. In Luke chapter 1, both Maria and Zechariah are carried away, body and soul, in hymns of thanksgiving. They let God´s melody resound in their bodies. Ignatius, one of the Early Fathers of the Church, might have drawn his inspiration from them when he wrote to the Christians of Ephesus around the year 100, Let God´s melody resound in you. The melody of our life is a single voice within God´s great melody; an everlasting celestial melody, in which we join together as integral parts - with time, we are gradually shown which chords we are given to touch and which chords to form with one another. God´s inextinguishable melody has an infinite galaxy of variations. As you would know, a variation is rooted but limitless. At our christening, God gives us a variation - an inextinguishable variation because of his promise, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. (Matthew 28, 20). Deeply rooted as we are, God leads us through. He calls us to Life out of His Eternity, He lets his melody reverberate in us and finally calls us back, when we die, to His everlasting future. Let God´s melody resound in you and guide your feet into the way of peace. Pastor Hanne Margrethe Tougaard.

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - SKU: A0.836707 Composed by Brian Joyce. Christmas,Contemporary. Score and parts. 67 pages. Brian Joyce #3226073. Published by Brian Joyce (A0.836707). What’s Christmas without a few toys? Here is a new suite of older carols for string quartet in which each musician is required to play a wee bit of percussion in addition to his or her real instrument. The potential for entertaining visual theater is nearly as high as the potential for mishap. (If all goes according to plan, nothing should actually go airborne.)This is something of a sequel to my earlier Christmas quartet And Therefore Be Merry, which has never been out of print since it was first published over twenty years ago. But where that work was a continuous medley, this is a set of independent and more fully developed movements, each able to stand on its own. As mentioned above, each member of the quartet is responsible for a small item of percussion. These are all things which could readily be found in a local school band room: a triangle, a tambourine, a suspended cymbal - played with a soft (yarn) stick - and a small frame drum, played with the bare hand. These are all earlier, earthier carols than what one typically finds on the radio or playing over the speakers at the mall. They include Gloucestershire Wassail, Riu Riu Chiu, Angelus ad Virginem, The Sans Day Carol, The Wexford Carol, and Masters in This Hall. Being perhaps less familiar, they bring a welcome respite from the overworked seasonal fare we all hear a bit too much of each year. They speak of simpler times, and of a far less frantic approach to Christmas. These fresh and inventive arrangements will make a useful addition to a quartet’s repertoire, provided the players have the requisite spirit of adventure. Score and Parts total 67 pages. Performance time is about 14 minutes.

Score and PartsThis piece was written, for the most part, in Fall 2015 with the third interlude and final movement following in the Fall of 2016. The quartet depicts the story of mankind. The first movement, Birth from the Cosmos, represents the formation of the universe and everything in it, culminating in man. The second movement, starting with an aggressive cello ostinato, represents not only the fall of man, but also advancement and progress toward becoming a unified, advanced society. The third movement, cold and open, looks back at our short time on Earth through the eyeglass of eternity, showing what little impact our chaotic existence has on the grand scheme of things in an infinitely vast universe. A cello cadenza signals the arrival of the final movement which, in contrast to the third, shows our impact on the universe as we are shown the impacts of what we leave behind and left with a singular question: Did our actions matter, or did we fail to leave our mark on an infinite universe?

String quartet - SKU: S9.Q19873 'Divorce' · Scheidung. Composed by Fazil Say. This edition: score and parts. Downloadable, Score and parts. Op. 29. Duration 16 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q19873. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q19873). In the composition of this string quartet, I have permitted myself to be led by my personality and experiences and have attempted to relate experiences such as divorce, separation and the failure of a relationship in the language of music with the aid of notes and rhythms. As is the case with my other compositions, this quartet is more a work originating from intuition than the description of a historical event, a journey or a place. The beginning of the first movement is somewhat wild, rapid and sorrowful with an irregular rhythm. Intermittent sections ensue which are reminiscent of a jazz club. Living history is our present which we are currently experiencing. The second movement with a melancholic atmosphere is dominated by colours, the subject of searching, the search for a remedy and unhappiness. In contrast, the final movement is intended to express the hatefulness, arguments and disputes within a relationship which have been transformed into a profound trauma. (Fazıl Say, translated by Lindsay Chalmers-Gerbracht).

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 5 - SKU: A0.534402 Composed by Jacques Leguerney. 20th Century,Standards. Score and parts. 125 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3457403. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.534402). Jacques Leguerney (1906-1997) composed two string quartets. The Premier Quatuor à cordes was composed in 1925 during Leguerneyâ??s private piano and composition study with French pianist Thérèse Cahen. His second quartet, subject of this publication by Musik Fabrik, was written between November 1947 and September 1948. The four movements are: I. Allegro moderato; II. Intermezzo; III. Scherzando; IV. Presto-Andantino. This work was, in part, Leguerneyâ??s response to the Premier Quatuor à cordes (inédit) by his colleague, Henri Sauguet. Leguerney stated in a personal interview with Patrick Choukroun (18 May 1989) that: â??I wrote it a bit in opposition to Sauguetâ??s Premier Quatuor. It seemed to me that his quartet was without interest: just scratchings! I wanted to express my way of looking at it from the classical viewpoint of the past: it is almost in the spirit of Mozart, except for the harmonic language, of course. In fact, I wanted to fight against everything that has been done to a quartet since Beethovenâ??s last ones.â? The premiere of the Quatuor à cordes en ré mineur was by the Quatuor Pro Arte at the Abbaye de Royaumont. Before this performance, Poulenc sent Leguerney the following note: â??Fortunate man for whom twelve strings are enough to charm people, I wish you good luck and respectfully embrace you.â? (Handwritten letter, Reims, 4 September 1959). Leguerney was appointed artistic director of the Lumen recording company in 1951, and remained in this position until 1959. He produced four recordings of his music, including the Quatuor Pro Arteâ??s recording of the Quatuor à cordes en ré mineur (1947-1948) (Lumen, LD 2.440, 1958). This disc won the Grand Prix du Disque de lâ??Académie Charles Cros on 13 March 1959. The Pro Arteâ??s members were Suzanne Plazonich, Violin I; Chantal Beylier, Violin II; Nicole Gendreau, Viola; and Micheline Burtin, Cello. Francis Poulenc wrote to Leguerney concerning this recording: â??It is very good Leguerney. Of course, frivolous as I am and shall always remain, it is the 2nd movement that I prefer. Between us, I am like you: I prefer the scherzos after the andantes; that way one is not forced to write a Finale allegro. Yours pleases me very much, in fact, so to my ears it is III-IV-I-II, in the order of pleasure.â? (Manuscript letter, Bagnols, 14 October 1959) The radio station France I broadcast the Quatuor with on 11 July 1959 on the program Schola of the series Concert de musique contemporaine, again with the Quatuor Pro Arte. An archive recording of this broadcast exists on magnetic tape. Critic Claude Rostand wrote: â??Jacques Leguerney does not seem to have looked for special innovations either in form or language. His basic thought seems especially to have written a quartet, that is to say on one hand to have used the four voices with elegance and originality, clarity and homogeneity (four-part writing seems to always have come naturally to him, even at the piano), and on the other hand to exploit all of the supple cushioning that can result from the caress of a bow on a string.â? Critic Emile Vuillermoz wrote: â??His only ambition is to expresses clear and affectionate melodic ideas, in a highly distinguished, elegant and refined language, meaning an homage, in the beginning of our century, to the trios of the greatest stylists of our time. In fact, it is from the vocabulary of Fauré, Debussy and Ravel that he takes his grammar and syntax and that with which he carries out with his this harmonic writing that is both supple and sparse, that is so congenial to the association of four string instruments. This quartet, whose first movement is of a rare perfection, is a delicate enchantment.â? The Musik Fabrik edition of the Quatuor à cordes en ré mineur is taken from a photocopy of the composerâ??s manuscript of the full score. We also had access to the quartet parts found in Leg.

With Friends Like These II. Inner Voices III. Little Hands and Little Feet IV. Freund Barry V. Friendly Persuasion VI. All For One and One For All I've known the Alexander String Quartet since 1987. More than just colleagues, they have become my friends: I've traveled with them, performed with them, watched them rehearse, dined with them in their homes and they in mine; I know their children and they know my children. Throughout the time I've known the members of the quartet I have observed the relationship between them, that special bond shared by the members of any touring band, described by one pundit as being like a bad marriage with no sex. Such issues notwithstanding, this particular marriage works. A string quartet represents, perhaps, the ultimate musical compromise between individual incentive and the common good. In a string quartet, by definition, four distinct instrumental voices and four different instrumental roles unite to create a whole greater than its parts. And, lest we forget, behind each instrument is a person, with his own particular attitudes, feelings, needs, and, yes, issues, all of which must be tempered and blended for the common good of a good performance. Among Friends is, its liberties aside, about the four people behind the instruments of the Alexander String Quartet and their relationships with one another; the way they play, rehearse, get along and, on occasion, not get along. The first movement, With Friends Like These is gritty and contentious in tone. The players argue, debate, annoy, tease, irk, cajole, abuse, harass, form brief alliances, heap merde upon, gang up on, and otherwise find endless ways to irritate each other. It is in this movement that the individual characters of the four instrumental parts stand in highest relief: the first violin as coloratura prima donna, forever attempting to soar above it all; the second violin as the voice in the wilderness, the viola as the voice of reason and the 'cello as mover and shaker. The opening of the movement is marked argument in progress; with greatest intensity. The second, third and fourth movements are a series of portraits, played without a break. In movement two, Inner Voices, the second violin and viola are featured in a collegial and decidedly non-contentious dialogue. Movement three, Little Hands and Little Feet, is the quiet center of the quartet. It is here that the first violin finally attains the lyric heights vainly sought in the first movement. The fourth movement is a vigorous dance entitled Freund Barry. This movement honors three great friends: Dr. Barry Gardiner, whose friendship and support made the writing of this quartet possible; Gustav Mahler, whose Symphony No. 4, second movement (Freund Heine) inspired this one; and Sandy Wilson, who first encouraged me to compose my second string quartet (Child's Play) for the Alexander in 1987 and whose boisterous 'cello is Freund Barry's alter-ego. The fifth movement is entitled Friendly Persuasion. Rapid fire repeated notes, accompanimental figures and melodic lines are shuttled about from voice to voice, each time elaborated or altered in some way. In this way the music slowly metamorphoses, ultimately arriving at a version of the argumentative music that concluded the first movement. Movement six, All For One and One For All is a fast, brief coda/finale, during which the quartet plays primarily in unison, the musical antithesis of the contentious argument that began the quartet. Among Friends was commissioned by the Koussevitzky Foundation in the Library of Congress and the Alexander String Quartet. Among Friends i.

Helen Marple-Horvat #6134105. Published by Helen Marple-Horvat (A0.749235). youtube.com/watch?v=b74tCHtcmFM‘Merry Christmas Everybody' is a major hit in the UK, and the familiar song heralds the festive season with all the ‘feel good’ emotions that come with it. We hear it in shops, supermarkets, and radio stations all over the country for the weeks in the run up to the celebrations, as it is part of a popular compilation of hits. It was a Christmas number one in 1973 and stayed there for nine weeks. Although it was recorded in New York it is not so well known in the USA which is a surprise to me. I have always loved it because of the unusual chord progressions at the end of the Chorus, and because Noddy Holder is from the West Midlands where I was born and bred. We don’t have too many famous people from around there! It is important to keep a steady tempo but it doesn’t need to be as fast as the original (120 bpm) However It *is* in the same key as the original and follows the structure exactly, so it may be possible to play along with it before coming to rehearsal, which is always helpful. It is useful to feel the syncopation that way. We planned to record this last March but that was before Lockdown! The tune is shared between first violin, viola and cello. The second violinist needs to keep a rock steady pulse. Although it is suitable for a professional quartet to play, and the first violinist often plays the tune up an octave, I feel that it is easy enough for a quartet of Grade 5 ABRSM to play with a few modifications such as playing open strings. The cellist will need to be able to play in fourth position and to stretch for the F sharps on the C string, but feel free to change the octaves or use pizzicato in the bass part if it makes things easier. The bowing is a guide only, based on the rehearsal with Capriccio Quartet, so all players should take as many bows as they need in order to feel comfortable. Enjoy playing the piece and send me any recordings on Facebook. I love to hear from people who have played my arrangements. You can hear Capriccio Quartet play my other arrangements at the Youtube Channel, Helen Marple-Horvat Songwriter, Arranger, Composer, Capriccio Quartet. String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1197314 Composed by Justus Johann Friedrich Dotzauer. Arranged by Michele Galvagno. 19th Century,Chamber,Classical,Instructional,Romantic Period. 164 pages. Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele #796478. Published by Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele (A0.1197314). Dotzauer’s first attempt at a major form of chamber music comes in 1810, with his Op. 12. This is a couple of quartets for two violins, viola, and violoncello obbligato. One may think these are ordinary string quartets, where the first violin has all the fun and the other three players share the remaining bits, but one would be gravely mistaken. The clue for this is the dedication by Dotzauer to his teacher, Bernhard Romberg. Then we have the word “obbligato†marking the prominence of the cello part over the others. They are entertaining pieces, about 25-minutes-long each, in four movements, and similar to Haydn in style. These are the first two of Dotzauer’s generous production of string quartets (more than twenty!). The first is in E-flat major, while the second is in G minor, a curious choice for sure. This edition comes in digital and print, both including the same material, a score and a set of four parts.

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1081261 Composed by Irwin Kostal, Richard M Sherman, and Robert B Sherman. Arranged by Luis Turina and Nonamé Música. 20th Century,Broadway,Film/TV,Musical/Show,Wedding. Score and parts. 22 pages. Nonamé Música #685399. Published by Nonamé Música (A0.1081261). (Spanish below) Based on the suite A Symphonic Fantasy, we did a conversion with three of the most remembered melodies from Mary Poppins. You have an intro with chim-chim-cheree, followed by feed the birds, but they don't fully develop. After that, A Spoon of Sugar, with the birds part made by the first violin and the second and viola enkoying. The next part is, now complete, Chim-Chim-Cheree, with the melody starting in the cello, and then passing by the rest of instruments from lower to higher. When the second plays the melody, the first plays a counter-theme a little bit tricky. And, in the end, now complete, Feed the Birds, with constant dialogs between the violins. Tested and approved arrangement. All Nonamé arrangements are prepared to avoid page turns if you print the covers properly.

Regis Bookshar #696569. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1092478). Kyrie - by Francesco Durante; String Quartet – Intermediate – . “Kyrieâ€, originally written for a four-part vocal ensemble by Francesco Durante, has now been transcribed, edited and arranged by Regis Bookshar, for a String Quartet, consisting of 2 Violins, 1 Viola and 1 Violoncello. It would be a welcomed addition to any music library. This short composition, which lasts less than two minutes, will provide students with the opportunity to continue to develop good intonation because many of the phrases cadence on a unison note. This selection could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services. It is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (7 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from the Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble’s extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. We have performed the Trumpet Quartet version of this composition for many church services, especially funerals, when we were asked to supply something more somber and introspective rather than the louder, more festive music which many people come to expect from a Trumpet Ensemble. Francesco Durante was an Italian composer who was born on March 31, 1684 at Frattamaggiore, in the Kingdom of Naples. At an early age he entered the Conservatorio dei poveri di Gesu Cristo, in Naples, where he received lessons from Gaetano Greco. Later he became a pupil of Alessandro Scarlatti at the Conservatorio di Sant’Onofrio. He is said to have succeeded Scarlatti in 1725 at Sant’Onofrio and to have remained there until 1742, when he succeeded Nicola Porpora as head of the Conservatorio di Santa Maria de Loreto, also in Naples. He held this post for thirteen years, until his death on September 30, 1755. His fame as a teacher was considerable, and, unlike his Neapolitan contemporaries, who attracted international notice with their operas, Francesco Durante achieved recognition through his church music, along with some vocal chamber and instrumental works. His concern was not quantity. A complete collection of Durante’s works, consisting almost exclusively of sacred music, was presented by Gaspare Selveggi, a Neapolitan art collector and music theorist, to the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris. The imperial library of Vienna also preserves a valuable collection of Durante’s manuscripts. The fact that Durante never composed for the stage brought him an exaggerated reputation as a composer of sacred music. He was considered one of the best church composers of his style and period. In his masses, requiems, litanies and Lamentations, he could provide strong expressive moments, as he does in this “Kyrieâ€. In addition to this arrangement for a String Quartet, Regis Bookshar has also made other arrangements of this selection. There are Quartets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. I’m certain that this beautiful arrangement of Francesco Durante’s “Kyrie†will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.
