Published by James Strauss (A0.1035228). AntonÃn Emil Titl Was born October 2, 1809 in Pernstein, and died in January 21, 1882 in Vienna was an Austrian composer. Titl had been the military bandmaster in Prague since 1835. In 1840 he was hired as the successor of Heinrich Proch to the theater in Josefstadt, where he stayed until 1846. From 1850 until his retirement in 1870 he worked at the Burgtheater as Kapellmeister. As a composer, Titl created numerous songs and stage music for both of the above theaters. His greatest success was the Singspiel Der Zauberschleier by Franz Xaver Told, which contained the song A Wirtsg'schäft, which was extremely popular at the time, is really not bad.In 1898 the Titlgasse in Vienna-Hietzing was named after him. Titl's Serenade was composed for flute and horn with orchestra or piano accompaniment. With a lilting Bel Canto style in 12/8, its lyric melody features passages of filigree work that will excite and challenge the musician's technical as well as expressive capabilities. The piece is ideal for contest or recital for the intermediate player. This edition for flute, horn and orchestra is based in 2 sources , a set or parts published in 1896 by the French publisher E. GALLET plate n. G.5688 and a manuscript of the parts from Austrian National Library and has been carefully arranged and edited by James Strauss. All the discrepancies between the sources were corrected and for the very first time in a Full Score format.

ATON is a stage play written by Manfred Strolz and Otmar Rützler which represents Egypt in the time of the Pharoahs but seen through the eyes of modern theatre directors and actors. The modern scenes are spoken but the Egyptian scenes require music, so Manfred and Otmar asked me to write the music for these. The music is composed for various forces as the play progresses, from the full orchestra (woodwind, strings, harp, piano, timpani) and choir down to more intimate moments with single voice or duets, flute and classical guitar or with single voice and bassoon. For each section the pdf file contains score and parts and the sound sample is an electronic preview. As I write, 18 sections have been composed, but more are to come - please just search for Aton in due course for the full picture. The first performance is planned to take place in the Landestheater in Innsbruck during 2015.

Published by WheatMyer Music (A0.1342596). From hymnary.org: SLANE is an old Irish folk tune associated with the ballad With My Love on the Road in Patrick W. Joyce's Old Irish Folk Music and Songs (1909). It became a hymn tune when it was arranged by David Evans (PHH 285) and set to the Irish hymn Be Thou My Vision published in the Church Hymnary (1927). SLANE is named for a hill in County Meath, Ireland, where St. Patrick's lighting of an Easter fire–an act of defiance against the pagan king Loegaire (fifth century)–led to his unlimited freedom to preach the gospel in Ireland.This setting of SLANE takes a variations approach to the tune with three recognizable but distinct interpretations. The first is an intimate and contemplative interpretation, followed by a jig, which is fitting for the tune's Irish background, and the third is a majestic chorale. Snippets of Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah (CWM RHONDDA) appear during interludes.This arrangement was written for a smaller ensemble, recognizing that few church orchestras have a symphonic size string section. It features alto flute and solo violin carrying the melody or providing colorful counterpoint.  Other than these featured players other instruments are hardly asked to carry an independent line. Doubling is prevalent allowing for a lot of flexibility in instrumentation and coverage of missing parts or the director may specify strategic tacets to present additional color and texture. Optional doubling parts are provided for alto (dbls. alto flt.) and tenor saxophone (dbls. Cl. 3).

When I Survey the Wondrous Cross, written by the Father of English Hymnody, Isaac Watts, in 1707 and later matched with Lowell Mason’s 1824 tune, HAMBURG, has long stood at the forefront of English hymnody.This arrangement, taken from my Passion Week cantata, Wounded, Bleeding, Still Proceeding, allows the full talent-spectrum of the Body of Christ to contemplate His sacrifice and offer their devotion.The first two stanzas feature an alto/soprano duet, set in a minor key with frequent diminished and augmented chords to reflect the despair and loss of a witness to the crucifixion. The entire third stanza, set for SATB chorus, never really moves off the F minor tonic until the end. That, and the relentless pounding of the bass line, ponders the witnesses' anguish and our vicarious experience of it through Scripture. So, sing these stanzas sadly – they are sad! When the choir enters, be sure to observe the swelling crescendos/diminuendos as the sorrow and love mingle together.The fourth stanza offers optional congregational participation and may be used to provide a responsorial to the Word of God or a preparation for the Table. The choir sings this stanza in four part harmony as the congregation joins on the melody. It stays in a major key and closely follows the traditional consonances used in Lowell Mason’s harmonization; thus, the choral parts will feel familiar and the congregational melody will flow naturally. Take the text literally (Love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all.) and sing it firmly, enthusiastically, passionately, but never triumphantly. Sing it as a song of personal devotion to commit all that you have, all that you are, and all that you will ever be, to the one who humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross (Phil 2:8b) so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (2 Cor 5:21)The music is well within the grasp of any ensemble competent with traditional SATB anthems. The instrumental accompaniments are straightforward yet very colorful, suitable for high school or higher level players. When I Survey the Wondrous Cross is an unapologetic Christian worship anthem suitable for sacred services, yet it does not compromise on artistic expression.This is the orchestral accompaniment for the choral octavo version sold separately. WheatMyer Music #4766879. Published by WheatMyer Music (A0.976709). PASSION CHORALE is the name given to a 1656 German tune which accompanies the words of the ancient hymn, O Sacred Head Now Wounded. This tune is clearly heard throughout this instrumental arrangement called Pathos Chorodia, which is a transliteration of the Greek for 'passion chorale.' I chose the Greek due to it being the common language of the First Century Near East with which the early Church was fluent. Although the familiar melody is heard clearly throughout, the setting will sound very foreign to most ears. In acknowledgment of the atonal origins of the pierrot ensemble, this arrangement embraces dissonance and chromaticism, and avoids clear statements of conventional harmony without, however, being altogether atonal. Thus, it is a most unusual setting of the tune, but one that poignantly paints the deep anguish expressed in the hymn text, the anguish of the crucifixion's witnesses. The music is simultaneously shocking and familiar, which seems a fitting way to present this familiar story in all its shocking horror.The music may be successfully performed with advanced high school or later musicians. It is not excessively technically demanding but will require artistic taste and expressiveness. It is good selection for chamber ensemble concerts and suited for either secular or sacred venues.

On that day, amid accompanying splendour, the music-loving Grand Duke Michail Nikolaievich (1832-1909), youngest brother of Tsar Alexander II, married Princess Caecilie of Baden (1839-91), daughter of Archduke Leopold of Baden. Johann Strauss, who at that time was giving a summer season of concerts in nearby Pavlovsk, used the opportunity occasioned by the event to enhance his already enviable popularity with the Russian royal family and composed the Caecilien-Polka in honour of the lovely young bride. Indeed, it is clear from a letter which Johann wrote in late July 1857 to Carl Haslinger, his publisher in Vienna, that the new polka had been prepared well in advance of the wedding (the fair copy of the full orchestral score made for the publisher's engraver is dated 9 August) and was enjoying success even before the royal couple's official engagement on 16August 1857. Sometime after performing the Caecilien-Polka in Pavlovsk, Johann despatched the work to the Austrian capital where his brother Josef conducted its Viennese première, together with that of Johann's waltz Telegraphische Depeschen (op. 195, Volume 28), at his own benefit concert in the Volksgartenon Sunday 18 October 1857. The Wiener Allgemeine Theaterzeitung (16.10.1857) remarked that both works have caused a sensation in St. Petersburg and are truly genial Viennese sounds full of verve and melody. Since tradition demanded that the German Princess Caecilie adopt a Russian name - Olga Feodorovna - before her marriage, so Johann's Caecilien-Polka also underwent a change of identity. On 8 December 1857 Carl Haslinger announced the publication of Strauss's Olga-Polka, on the title page of which is the inscription: Dedicated to her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Olga, née Princess of Baden. It was under this title, too, that Johann himself first conducted the work in Vienna at a concert in the Volksgarten on 1 November 1857, shortly after his return from Russia. The work has been transcribed for piano, 4 hands, for the Duo Pianismo recital in Benetatou Cultural Center of Psihiko in 2010 and for wind quintet for the Q innegal Wind Quintet Concerts in Athens in 2011 (Attikon OdeionConservatory, Art Gallery Café, Athens, Perigiali Theater, Korinthos). The 1st movement has its origin in some music sketched for a student's film project on Windmills in 1997. The 2nd movement is a Minuet with a touch of dry humour. The 3rd movement 'Romanza' is expressive with a touch of reflective sadness. The last movement is a lightheated Jig with an obviously Irish twist. The Serenade is easily accessible and within the capacity of a good amateur orchestra.

The poem by Sappho was also one I had discovered in my own handwriting such that at first I did not remember who wrote such a splendid verse. All four were discovered, so to speak, by me from my more distant youth and set to music when I myself had just turned 21. There are four movements, Ina Cabin by the Sea - Indoors - An Evening Request - Alone. Total 8 minutes.

The Gypsy Baron (German: Der Zigeunerbaron) is an operetta in three acts by Johann Strauss II which premiered at the Theater an der Wien on 24 October 1885. During the composer's lifetime, the operetta enjoyed great success, second only to the popularity of Die Fledermaus (The bat). The Ouverture is a very popular piece, often performed during concerts but it normally requires large orchestral forces: hence the present arrangement, which only requires 1 flute, 1 oboe, 1 clarinet, 1 bassoon, 1 horn, 2 percussion players, and strings.P.S.: if you want to listen to a beautiful performance of this Ouverture check out the Vienna Philharmonic with Carlos Kleiber. It's absolutely brilliant!

Seven Fragments were then described as Psychedelic Doll Theater Music. The fragments was first written for piano, clarinet, double bass and one percussion player (vibraphone, triangle, chimes and five roto-toms, or octobans if toms are not available), and was rearranged in 2016 for Pierrot Ensemble, for recording by musicians of Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, and released on ABLAZE Records, Pierrot Ensemble Series vol. 1 in 2017.
