This piano concerto (concertino) by Jean Baptiste Vanhal (1739-1813) is a very charming and lively 'first concerto' for late intermediate pianists as the technical difficulty of the solo part is more or less that of the Mozart Sonata in C (KV545). The key is C major. It has three movements, Allegro moderato, Andante en Finale, which is a theme with 3 variations.The 'orchestra' consists of a viola and a violoncello part. A great student concerto, or a lively piece of chamber music. Total 32 pages, the complete score is provided as well as separate parts for the piano, viola and cello parts. This edition is created from the manuscript version of the piece. The composer provided very few performance markings, all markings in the score were given by the composer.

This edition of the Artie Shaw Concerto for Clarinet is a note for note transcription of what Shaw recorded on the record version and in the motion picture. Shaw’s solos as played in both the motion picture and record version are represented in great detail with the film solo shown as ossia so the player can view and choose which they might prefer to play. Techniques are carefully detailed to show ornaments, slurs, accents etc. This edition restores many elements missing in other versions available. The strings here are restored to the original voicings so important to the style of the classic sound of the period.The solos are transcribed note for note as played by greats such as Billy Butterfield on Trumpet, Johnny Guarnieri on Piano, Les Robinson on Alto Sax, Jerry Jerome on Tenor Sax, Vernon “Brownie†Brown on Trombone.There is an entire sax riff that was extemporaneously improvised during the session that is missing entirely in other published versions. The instrumentation is also restored to only the instruments that were used in Shaw’s recordings. It is arranged here for the more common instrumentation of Oboe and Violin. However it is offered in the key of D minor with a complete set of string parts and harpsichord accompaniment. It could be played with strings and just the Harpsichord part on piano as an accompaniment. Orchestra parts in D minor are hard to find.

Olivia (A0.1433339). This edition of the Artie Shaw Concerto for Clarinet is a note for note transcription of what Shaw recorded on the record version and in the motion picture. These are the parts for the big band and strings. Shaw’s solos as played in both the motion picture and record version are represented in great detail with the film solo shown as ossia so the player can view and choose which they might prefer to play. Techniques are carefully detailed to show ornaments, slurs, accents etc. This edition restores many elements missing in other versions available. The strings here are restored to the original voicings so important to the style of the classic sound of the period.The solos are transcribed note for note as played by greats such as Billy Butterfield on Trumpet, Johnny Guarnieri on Piano, Les Robinson on Alto Sax, Jerry Jerome on Tenor Sax, Vernon “Brownie” Brown on Trombone.There is an entire sax riff that was extemporaneously improvised during the session that is missing entirely in other published versions. The instrumentation is also restored to only the instruments that were used in Shaw’s recordings. There are many details that help the ease of performability of the genre and gesture of jazz idiom. Lastly, the intention is that this should be performed with saxophones. However, there are optional parts for clarinets and bassoons that can be used only if saxes are not available.

As the title (which means little concerto) indicates, Concertino for Flute and Strings closely follows sonata forms on a somewhat smaller scale. Tonality is an important part of sonata form, and in this composition, the tonal relationships within and between the movements are all based on thirds. The tempi, form, and keys of the 3 movements are as follows: 1. Allegro molto - sonata-allegro - E minor 2. Andante moderato - theme and variations - C major 3.
