(also known as Proud to Be an American) is an American patriotic song written and recorded by American country music artist Lee Greenwood, and is considered to be his signature song. The first album it appears on is 1984's You've Got a Good Love Comin'. It reached No. 7 on the Billboard magazine Hot Country Singles chart when originally released in the spring of 1984, and was played at the 1984 Republican National Convention with President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan in attendance, but the song gained greater prominence during the Gulf War in 1990 and 1991, as a way of boosting morale, and was re-included on his 1992 album American Patriot as a result of its newfound popularity.The popularity of the song rose sharply after the September 11 attacks and during the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and the song was re-released as a single, re-entering the country music charts at No. 16 and peaking at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart in 2001. The song was also re-recorded in 2003 and released as God Bless the U.S.A. 2003. Greenwood also wrote a Canadian version of this song called God Bless You Canada. Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings in C Major was written with an ear towards one of his idols, a certain 18th century composer by the name of Mozart. The title and structure of the piece are taken from the serenades of the latter, though this is certainly Tchaikovsky's own particularly 19th century rendering of these older ideas. That it is a masterful work, is demonstrated by the fact that it still remains among the most performed and appreciated by the public alongside the serenades by AntonÃn Dvořák and Josef Suk. The second movement is a gracious waltz that updates the requisite dance movement (which in Mozart's time would have been a stately minuet) to a more contemporary dance form. In any case, the waltz is almost deceptively complex. The harmonic shifts are numerous and often sudden and always deftly crafted. The texture is somewhat of a departure from the previous movement in that there is a discernible lightness of touch in the waltz. This arrangement for flute quartet (Flute 1, Flute 2, Flute 3, Flute 4 or Alto Flute) reflects faithfully the original and is suitable for classroom, repertoire and recital.

The key sequence is: D major using the basic statement with additional passing notes and decorations, with first flute taking the melody. It then moves up in the 2nd verse to E dorian with a slightly renaissance feel, with alto flute taking the melody. The 3rd verse, with bass flute on melody, goes on up to a jolly renaissance-style dance also in E Dorian, incorporating a mix of 3/4 and 6/8 rhythms. This is written in one broad movement for a Flute in C quartet. I wrote it because I love the flute and want to incorporate a theme and variations approach. Each terrace gets a little more involved with counterpoint, etc., in the tonal fabric, building up to a dramatic tension point and then a D.C. back to the beginning to hold it all together and come to a final cadence. It is loosely based and inspired by the Baroque dance suite approach, very freely using the drama, echoes, tensions and cadences, telling a story. It is motivated by universal human experiences in living life (the drama of the terrace dynamics), making the most of opportunities using available resources -- all that good stuff! The title page is a dramatic photo of the Northern Lights from Alaska showing terraces, starting with our earth and looking upwards to infinity. The audio clip is not a sample, but a MIDI rendition of the whole composition.

You can use as much rubato as you like.François-Joseph Gossec (1734 – 1829) was a French composer of operas, string quartets, symphonies, and choral works. His Gavotte, from his opera Rosine, ou L'épouse abandonnée (1786), remains familiar in popular culture because Carl Stalling and Charles M. Jones used arrangements of it in several Warner Brothers cartoons. Arguably the most notable of these is Porky Pig's dance to an uncredited version of Gossec's Gavotte in Jones’ Porky's Cafe (1942).
