In my search of octets on YouTube I noticed that there were a number of octets that used a double bass instead of a second cello. I thought that configuration would suit what I had in mind for my octet.Octet for Strings is in five movements.I. AdagioII. Allegro III. AdagioIV. Allegro TRIOV. Inspired by J.S. Bach's Sonatas & Partitas for Solo Violin and the 6 Suites for Unaccompanied Cello as well as Max Reger's 3 Suites for Solo Viola and several of Paganini's 24 Caprices, this virtuosic, multi-faceted, five-movement work by young Australian composer Jamie Miles focuses on a range of technical elements including double stops and chords, varied and difficult hand positions, fast string crossings, position shifts, rapid scale and arpeggio passages, and more. The five movements are: 1) Prelude, 2) Bourée, 3) Sarabande, 4) Courante - Theme and Variations and 5) Gigue. Jamie commenced writing this work in 2017, at the age of 12 and completed it in mid-2019 at age 14. The premiere of the work was broadcast live on FM radio in December of 2019, performed by the composer.The length is approximately 14 minutes. .

For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven. Ecclestiastes 3:1 Beginning in A Minor, Journey to Joy opens with a dirge. The double stop melody has A as a pedal tone throughout. The second section is a waltz. The low register of the viola is brought to the forefront. The pulse picks up and uses more of the viola’s upper register. The work accelerates and finishes in C Major with a jig. Duration: Approximately 5 minutes

Bastion is another word for castle, specifically pertaining to the group Castle Of Our Skins. The sui generis part of the title was initially for it being a solo unaccompanied work; however, sui generis also means unique, in a class by itself and in regards to creative arts, for artistic works that go beyond conventional genre boundaries. Sui Generis Bastion displays a rounded progressive form. The musical events stem from extended playing techniques such as extreme high registers, extensive use of natural harmonics and multi layering effects with sul ponticello on fast note ostinato passages playing in the high register on top of the tail motive of the opening melody performed with double stops in the lower register.

Elijah Jovan McClain (February 25, 1996 – August 30, 2019) was a 23-year-oldAfrican-American massage therapist from Aurora, Colorado who was murdered after being placed in a chokehold by police and being sedated by paramedics. On August 24, 2019, an Aurora citizen reported to police that McClain was wearing a ski mask and looked sketchy,although the caller also indicated that he did not believe anyone was in anger, and that he believed McClain was unarmed.  The three police officers who were involved in the incident, Nathan Woodyard, Jason Rosenblatt and Randy Roedema, said that their body cameras were knocked off during a struggle with McClain. McClain was forcibly held to the ground with his hands cuffed behind his back, after which an officer applied a chokehold and paramedics administered ketamine to McClain to sedate him.  While being transported to the hospital McClain went into cardiac arrest. Three days after arriving at the hospital he was declared brain dead, and he was removed from life support on August30. McClain's autopsy was inconclusive.
