Arrangement of the last opera composed by Rossini, where the protagonist is the legendary hero of the Swiss independence, William Tell. According to the legend, Tell was an expert marksman with the crossbow who assassinated Albrecht Gessler, a tyrannical reeve of the Austrian dukes of the House of Habsburg positioned in Altdorf, in the canton of Uri. Tell?s defiance and tyrannicide encouraged the population to open rebellion and a pact against the foreign rulers with neighbouring Schwyz and Unterwalden, marking the foundation of the Swiss Confederacy.

This Divertimento is a four movement suite for B-flat Clarinet Quartet (SSSB) commissioned by the Sunshine Quartet of Orlando, Florida. The movements, I. Appassionata, II. Giocoso, III. That's a Plenty is originally a 1914 ragtime piano composition by Lew Pollack. Lyrics by Ray Gilbert (born 1912) were added decades later. The composition started out as a rag but is nowadays played as a part of the Dixieland jazz repertoire. The song has been recorded by numerous artists and is considered a jazz standard.
