Jules Demersseman was born on January 9, 1833 in Hondschoote, a small town in the north of France now near the border of Belgium. He entered the Paris Conservatory in 1844 in the class of Jean-Louis Tulou and won a first prize in flute in 1845. Demersseman had a career as a pedogogue and soloist, often performing his own compositions. A close friend of Adolphe Sax, he wrote some of the first works ever written for the saxophone, as well as for the saxhorn and for Sax‘s valved trombone, most of which were published by Sax himself.. Demersseman died in Paris on December 1, 1866 at the age of 33. Two versions of this work were published by the Adolphe Sax puublishing company: a version for voice and organ and a version for voice with Alto Saxophone, Sax Valved Trombone and Bass Saxhorn, an interesting combination which is perhaps not as easy to find as it was in Sax's showroom, where the piece was likely performed to show the qualities of Sax's instruments. These versions are also published by Musik Fabrik in seperate editions. This current version was arranged using the first edition of the trio version as its source, and the saxophone and voice parts remain essentially as in the original, with some editorial dynamic changes. The version may be performed in three possible ways: either as a piece for Clarinet Quartet, as a work with Voice and Clarinet Trio, or as a work with Voice and clarinet quartet, with Clarinet 1 doubling the voice. A voical part (in C) is included with the set.

In 2020 he was awarded the Michigan Music Education Association’s Young Composers of Michigan award, as well as first prize in the University of Toledo Young Composers competition. Lenhart has also participated in numerous ensembles across Michigan, including the MYAF All-State Choir, Tecumseh Pops Orchestra, University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club and the SMTD University Choir. He thoroughly enjoys collaboration with other composers, performers, poets and visual artists. Some of his recent projects include collaborations with individuals from the University of Michigan Chamber Music, History, and Poetry departments.

Juan MarÃa Solare: Hamacando a las mellizas (Swinging Twins or Swinging the twins) a children blues for piano This work was born -precisely- while rocking (swinging) my twins Laura and Alma, as an improvised melody that accompanied their activity (or rather mine). From there to write it down there was only one step. As a second theme, it seemed appropriate to invert the melody, since twinhood implies a certain specular symmetry. Hamacando a las mellizas has the traditional structure of the twelve-bar blues, and a merry, innocent and carefree character. Hamacando a las mellizas was composed in Bremen (Germany) between June 21 and 23, 2020. Shortly afterwards, adaptations for a variety of instrumental combinations were written, such as - alto saxophone, double bass and piano (*) - clarinet, double bass and piano - violin and piano - clarinet quartet The version for clarinet quartet was premiered within the framework of the IV International Festival of Clarinets of San MartÃn de los Andes (Argentina), which took place online from November 12 to 15, 2020. Bach’s Prelude and Fugue BWV 549 in C-minor is one of his earlier works, believed to be a transcription of a work originally in D-minor (BWV 549a). This arrangement has been scored for clarinet quartet using flexible instrumentation for increased accessibility. The score has been written for Eâ™, Bâ™, alto, and bass clarinet, however, any combination of the included parts is acceptable.A Bâ™ clarinet part has been included for Part III to allow for one of the most common and accessible clarinet quartet settings of three Bâ™ clarinets and one bass clarinet, however, it required transposing some passages up an octave when it became too low, so using a basset horn, alto clarinet, or bass clarinet is preferable. The Part IV bass clarinet requires several low Ds so an extended range instrument is necessary. For a version that doesn’t require an extended range bass clarinet, BWV 549a in D-minor is available (AMA-008). This version also retains more of the original octaves in III. Bâ™ Clarinet.Richard originally arranged this work for SATB saxophone quartet and I have adapted it for clarinets.
