Published by BJE Music (A0.750854). This is a beautiful traditional Australian Folksong which tells the story of banishment of the singer from their native Erin. The tune probably has Irish origins. This quartet version has been arranged for 3 Bb Clarinets and a Bb Bass Clarinet, which could also be played on a Bb Clarinet as well. I’ve used this tune in my Australian Folksong Medley No. 3 for Concert Band. This traditional tune was also featured in the film The Man From Snowy River. Published by BJE Music (A0.751020). The Ash Grove -The first published version of the tune was in 1802 in The Bardic Museum, a book written by the Welsh harpist Edward Jones. About four years later a version with words appeared, under the name Llwyn Onn. It tells of a sailor's love for Gwen of Llwyn. At the end of the song, Gwen dies, and in one version of the piece, the writer talks about him mourning and that she is lying 'neath the shades of the lonely ash grove. The tune might be much older, as a similar air appears in The Beggar's Opera by John Gay (1728), in the song Cease Your Funning. [Wikipedia]This arrangement is for a Flexible Clarinet Quartet or Choir with parts for an Eb Clarinet, 3 Bb Clarinets, Alto Clarinet, and Bb Bass Clarinet.​Grade = 3.5 Duration = 2:30 mins.

In 1889, a struggling composer called Pietro Mascagni heard about a sponsored competition for one-act operas, specifically for young Italian composers who had not yet had an opera performed, only two months before the deadline. With little time, he selected the subject for his opera and asked his childhood friend, Giovanni Targioni-Tozzetti (who was helped by Guido Menasci), to write a libretto for him. Mascagni selected a story that he had seen as a play in Milan in early 1884 by realist writer Giovanni Verga, “Rustic Chivalryâ€, or Cavalleria rusticana. A passionate love tragedy featuring seduction, adultery, revenge and murder, it is surprising set on Easter morning.Mascagni received only a few verses at a time from his librettists, but he was not worried because he had the opera clear in his mind: “I identified with the drama to such an extent that I felt it within myself in terms of music.†After two months’ of work, the music for Cavalleria rusticana was finished but he feared the opera would fail and put the music in a draw. Fortunately, his wife sent it off, he unanimously won the competition and was soon the talk of Europe. (At the premiere in May 1890 in Rome, Mascagni received no fewer than 60 curtain calls.) Unfortunately, it was a one-hit wonder with Mascagni unable to repeat its success, saying towards the end of his life that “it is a pity I wrote Cavalleria first for I was crowned before I became king.†He died, penniless, in 1945.Today, few people have heard of Mascagni’s name, and, if they have, it is rarely in relation to anything but one piece from Cavalleria rusticana, the Intermezzo. A short piece of purely orchestral music that is uses to denote the passage of time, the orchestration is very simple but it is such an indulgently beautiful melody (based on a hymn heard earlier in the short opera) that perfectly captures the peace of country living in Sicily against the intense feelings of the main characters and the looming tragedy to come.The piece is so popular that (along with the “Easter Hymn†from the same opera), it is the only reason Mascagni features in the Classic FM’s Hall of Fame.The piece was used in the 1980 film Raging Bull and the 1990 film The Godfather Part III.This arrangement includes alternative parts for clarinet in E-flat and alto clarinet in E-flat. Esta fusión se inspira en los motivos rÃtmicos y melódicos de la pieza musical ceremonial “Sones y Jarabes Mixes†del reconocido compositor Rito Marcelino Rovirosa. En “Fusión Mixe†se reflejan las ricas tradiciones y costumbres de la región mixe, incluyendo ceremonias y ritos en honor a la madre naturaleza y al rey “Konk ëy†(rey bueno). También se plasman experiencias vividas en el pueblo y en la región mixe, donde aún se conserva y se habla la lengua mixe con mucho orgullo. Haber nacido en la comunidad de Tlahuitoltepec Mixe, Oaxaca, México, es un privilegio que me permite una conexión profunda con estas raÃces culturales.La obra musical ceremonial “Sones y Jarabes Mixesâ€, compuesta por Rito Marcelino Rovirosa, es ampliamente reconocida como uno de los himnos representativos de la región Mixe. Además de ser una pieza musical, también es un baile que forma parte integral de la cultura Mixe del estado de Oaxaca, México. El mismo autor también compuso un himno especÃfico para la región titulado “Himno Mixeâ€. En la tradición y costumbres de esta región, se realizan ceremonias y ritos para agradecer o pedir a las potencias naturales como el rayo, el viento, el agua, el sol, la montaña, la madre tierra y al rey “Konk ëy†(rey bueno), quien representa el vÃnculo con lo sagrado. Estas ceremonias pueden tener como objetivo tener una buena cosecha, alejar un mal sobrenatural, mejorar las condiciones de vida, tener abundancia económica o un buen año. Durante estas ceremonias se ofrendan bebidas como tepache y mezcal, alimentos y música, incluyendo sones y jarabes para bailar.

Bach's Partita No. 2 in C minor, BWV 826, is an essential work for several reasons: Significance in Bach's Oeuvre It is part of Bach's monumental collection of six partitas (suites) for the keyboard, considered among music history's most famous and challenging suites. The partitas were published as Bach's Opus 1 in 1731, showcasing the diversity of forms and ingenious counterpoint in his keyboard writing. Partita No. 2 was one of the earliest partitas to be published individually in 1727, highlighting its significance. Durante estas ceremonias se ofrendan bebidas como tepache y mezcal, alimentos y música, incluyendo sones y jarabes para bailar.Rito Marcelino Rovirosa, es un ilustre compositor mexicano conocido como el “hijo de la sierra mixeâ€, nació en Asunción Cacalotepec, Mixe, Oaxaca el 07 de abril de 1908 y falleció en Santiago Zacatepec Mixe, Oaxaca el 05 de julio de 2000 a la edad de 92 años. Rovirosa dejó un legado de más de 200 obras que se extendieron más allá de su región y fueron interpretadas por las bandas filarmónicas de casi todos los estados de la República Mexicana. Entre sus creaciones se encuentran sones y jarabes mixes, himno mixe, los mixes, fandango mixe, raza mixe, rey condoy, lustre, fiesta animada, viuda alegre, alegrÃa de mi alma, nueva esperanza, mi paisano y pájaro montañero. Sin embargo, no todas sus obras fueron conocidas o grabadas; dejó muchas inéditas e incluso escribió varias piezas a petición de otros músicos quienes le solicitaron que las dejara sin tÃtulo ni autorÃa. Marcelino Rovirosa vivió como cualquier otro campesino; dedicaba su tiempo a cuidar sus cultivos de café, maÃz y frijol. Las noches eran sus momentos favoritos para escribir sus obras inspirándose en la naturaleza, el canto de los pájaros y las convivencias con sus paisanos. Nadie hubiera imaginado que un indÃgena mixe iba a trascender con su música más allá de la frontera mixe. En la década de los años cuarenta del siglo pasado fue humillado por el mandamás de su pueblo quien lo envió a la cárcel acusándolo falsamente. Fue llevado a pie amarrado de las manos y sujetado por una cuerda por los guardianes desde su natal Asunción Cacalotepec hasta la cabecera distrital de Santiago Zacatepec un pueblo que lo adoptarÃa más tarde, después de caminar más de 10 horas en plena serranÃa fue conducido directamente a la cárcel donde permaneció durante tres años. Mientras estaba en la cárcel su creciente fama como buen músico llegó a oÃdos de las autoridades del pueblo, del agente del ministerio público, del juez que llevaba su caso y también de don Luis RodrÃguez Jacob, lÃder de la comunidad y del distrito mixe. A pesar de estar privado de su libertad gozaba de algunos tratos preferenciales que los demás no tenÃan. Fue incluido en la banda de música que viajó a la ciudad de Oaxaca, junto con las autoridades municipales para participar en un evento oficial que resultó ser todo un éxito. Al término de la misión y de regreso a Zacatepec don Luis RodrÃguez encomendó a los maestros de música y al distinguido Marcelino Rovirosa que escribieran una melodÃa representativa de la región mixe. Rito regresó como era natural a la cárcel municipal y puso manos a la obra; le facilitaron papel pautado y pluma y en pocos dÃas la obra solicitada quedó lista y lo tituló “fandango mixe†nombre sugerido por don Luis RodrÃguez.

Published by Sonata Grendel Publishing (A0.837482). All the movements of Four World Variants are based on one theme. The theme proper can be heard in the fugue subject of the first movement. The second movement uses the theme in retrograde inversion (backwards and upside down) to emulate the music of Gagaku. Gagaku literally translates as elegant music and is the ancient imperial court music of Japan. The third movement uses the theme in retrograde (simply backwards) to create a sarabande. Sarabandes are typically associated with the dance suites of the Baroque era but are said to have originated in Central and North America. The Sarabande was banned for a time in 16th century Spain for it’s lascivious nature. The final movement uses the original form of the theme combined with a traditional drumming pattern of the Ewe people of Togo, Benin, and Ghana, West Africa. I. Europe: An Enlightenment Fugue II. Frühlingsstimmen, Op. 410 (Spring's Voices, or commonly Voices of Spring) is an orchestral waltz, with optional solo soprano voice, written in 1882 by Johann Strauss II.Strauss dedicated the work to the pianist and composer Alfred Grünfeld. The famous coloratura soprano Bertha Schwarz (stage name Bianca Bianchi) sang this concert aria at a grand matinée charity performance at the Theater an der Wien in aid of the Emperor Franz Josef and Empress Elisabeth Foundation for Indigent Austro-Hungarian subjects in Leipzig. The waltz was not a great success at its premiere, but was more successful when performed on Strauss' tour of Russia in 1886.
