Bach, in his work Preludes and Fugues.On this occasion, Fugue No. 5 is presented in 3 voices, in arrangement for Clarinet Quartet and containing a rhythmic motif that contrasts with its legato counterpart, which gives a slight contrast that enriches the whole of the fugue as it develops the piece.The fugue offers many musical possibilities and for this arrangement, it has focused on being a pedagogical version; to teach instrumentalists how a fugue works, as well as Shostakovich's own speech. Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings in C Major was written with an ear towards one of his idols, a certain 18th century composer by the name of Mozart. The title and structure of the piece are taken from the serenades of the latter, though this is certainly Tchaikovsky's own particularly 19th century rendering of these older ideas. That it is a masterful work, is demonstrated by the fact that it still remains among the most performed and appreciated by the public alongside the serenades by AntonÃn Dvořák and Josef Suk. The final movement begins with slow and subdued section, based on a Russian folk song, stands in stark contrast to the core of the movement, which is a very quick-paced and rollicking finale based on another Russian folk melody—this time a dance tune. This dance tune spins out and gives the orchestra a rather strenuous workout. It is almost as if the piece is continually building and building, seemingly getting faster, until Tchaikovsky channels the inventiveness and unpredictability of his beloved Mozart. This arrangement for clarinet quartet (Bb Clarinet 1 or Eb Clarinet, Bb Clarinet 2, Bb Clarinet 3 or Eb Alto Clarinet, Bb Bass Clarinet) reflects faithfully the original and is suitable for classroom, repertoire and recital.

El Aventurero - Cuarteto para ClarinetesEn julio de 2019, se lanzó esta nueva versión oficial definitiva de la composición Nº 07 “El Aventureroâ€, un cuarteto para clarinetes.Esta actualización fue posible gracias a la valiosa retroalimentación proporcionada por maestros, compañeros, alumnos y público en general, quienes solicitaron la incorporación de nuevos temas y una mayor duración de la obra para satisfacer la demanda de una experiencia auditiva más completa.Los aspectos más destacados y significativos de esta nueva versión radica en la incorporación de nuevos temas inéditos, tales como dos estribillos, un trÃo y un montuno extendido en forma de improvisación. Este último elemento fue fundamental para desarrollar, expandir y aventurarme nuevamente en la obra. A través de él, pude plasmar los ciclos de mi vida y transportar el pasado hacia el presente. Asimismo, se incorporó un desenlace explÃcito y coherente para garantizar que el oyente comprenda de manera inequÃvoca la conclusión de la obra. Esto contrasta con la versión anterior, que dejaba cierta ambigüedad sobre si la pieza continuaba o habÃa llegado a su fin.Además de los nuevos temas, se realizaron mejoras en los ya existentes ampliando algunas frases y motivos y se añadieron puentes para facilitar la unión y repetición, y también se introdujeron cambios en los contrapuntos y armonÃas en frases especÃficas.En su obra “El Aventureroâ€, el compositor mexicano comparte su historia personal a través de las distintas etapas que ha experimentado a lo largo de su vida. Originario de la comunidad de Tlahuitoltepec Mixe, Oaxaca, el autor creció hablando la lengua mixe y se sumergió en las tradiciones, usos y costumbres de una comunidad rica en cultura. Desde temprana edad, estuvo expuesto a bandas filarmónicas con repertorios de sones y jarabes.A la edad de diez años, tuvo su primer acercamiento a la música a través de lecciones impartidas por su padre. Posteriormente, continuó su aprendizaje de manera autodidacta y se unió a la banda municipal del pueblo. Con el paso del tiempo, la banda municipal, ahora conocida como BASTLAM, alcanzó su máximo potencial en la década de los 90. Fue entonces cuando comenzaron las giras musicales y el autor tuvo la oportunidad de visitar las ciudades de Oaxaca, México y Veracruz. Quedó impresionado por la belleza de las grandes ciudades y sus distintas tradiciones, pero sobre todo por su rica cultura musical.Posteriormente, se trasladó a la Ciudad de México para residir allà temporalmente. Sus viajes musicales continuaron por casi todos los estados de la República Mexicana. The Dutch Composer, Johan B Kok (1889-1954), wrote over two- hundred compositions for different combinations of instruments, all of which included the Mandolin or the Mandolin Orchestra. ‘Joska’, originally written for two Mandolins, Mandola and Guitar, bears the subtitle and style of the ‘Zigeuner Romance’ or ‘Gypsy Romance’, and it may well have been inspired by Monti’s better known ‘Czardas’, which, significantly, was also originally written for Mandolin and Piano. Both pieces have contrasting slow and fast sections, which is typical of Central European ‘tavern music’, commonly associated with Hungary. ‘Czardas’, of course, means ‘tavern’ in Hungarian.

The majestic nature of the piece makes it a great recital performance that sounds very professional when all put together.

It’s written in memory of my brother, Tex, who we lost to COVID in 2020. In homage to his passion, dirt track racing, there is a contrasting section of paint-swapping, fender-bending frenzy, which comes to an all too sudden end as did his life. The title has nothing to do with billiards but refers to his long-tenured racing number and logo.The music uses unconventional scales which are actually six-tone pitch sets treated as different key centers. They produce a lush mixture of consonance and dissonance that at turns feel comforting and unsettling.Writing 8 Ball was a cathartic experience to explore my own emotions, cement my brother’s proper place in my memories, and produce a tangible expression of my love for my brother. It was written as an assignment in the 2023 summer composition workshop at Tarrant County College. I’m grateful to my instructor, Dr. Aaron Kline, the music department at TCC, and the musicians of our performing quartet for their part in bringing this music to life.

This arrangement adapted for clarinet quartet was written keeping the characteristics of the original work, in order to be performed by young music students who want to enter the symphonic music. Besides, it can also be used by professional musicians, for recitals, repertoire, academic presentations and didactic material. As much as it is a funeral march, it is well suited for any musical performance occasion. The transcription is faithful to the structure, with only one change of key, so that it is comfortable for all the instruments in the formation, as well as for use in ensemble practice between musicians of different traditions. Ludwig van Beethoven began concentrated work on his Symphony No. 7 in A major Op. 92 in 1811, it was completed in 1812, and was dedicated to Count Moritz von Fries, and premiered in Vienna on December 8, 1813. It is considered a remarkable example of the more ebullient side of Beethoven's compositional personality and evidence that even after the onset of deafness, he still found cause for musical optimism. The second movement Allegretto is a funeral march in everything but name. Often several contrasting melodic ideas are made to coexist, as if Beethoven were imagining several processions converging on the cemetery at the same time. As he was working on this symphony during the years of the Napoleonic Wars, this experience was probably within his experience. It was also used as the soundtrack to the film Knowing, by director Alex Proyas and starring Nicolas Cage, where it is used in the final scene of the film. Beethoven called Symphony No. 7 his most excellent symphony, and a music critic of the time reported, this symphony is the most melodically rich and the most pleasing and comprehensible of all Beethoven's symphonies..
