The Queen's Gambit is a miniseries that Netflix released in October 2020, and it quickly became one of their most-watched shows around the world.

Show aside, it has one of the most exciting musical scores, with the title number being my absolute favorite of the entire soundtrack, written by Carlos Rafael Rivera.

Ravel wrote 3 Chansons while waiting to be enlisted in the military during World War 1, and the only piece that he wrote for acapella choir. This is the 3rd movement of that piece, and it makes a great instrumental quartet piece. The song is about adults telling their children not to go into the woods of Ormond because there are monsters there. What makes the song fun is the list names of all of the monsters that reside in these woods. I've added the lyrics on my title page just as a reference, since as an instrumental quartet, this won't be conveyed to your audience. That said, if you didn't know what his piece is about, it's quite charming! This arrangement is for 4 Bb clarinets. There is an optional Eb alto part that can be played in place of the 4th Bb part.

Debussy definitely wrote lovely compositions. Here are three short pieces arranged for clarinet quartet (4 Bb clarinets). It includes Le petit negre, Dieu qu?il la fait bon regarder, and Morceau de concours. The theme song from Halloween ranks as one of the creepiest movie theme songs ever. It was first composed in 1978, and is still creeping people out just as strong as ever. Critics have grumbled about it being too simple, but that\\\'s what makes this piece so memorable.

Set at a time signature of 5/4 throughout, this arrangement is scored for Bb clarinets. The 4th part can be played by either a \\\"regular\\\" clarinet or a bass, or a contrabass.

It goes without saying that this piece should be played in a cold and mechanical manner. It definitely isn\\\'t a \\\"pretty\\\" piece. The lower instruments should be strong, while the upper instruments tip toe on top. If you would like to add a little more interest to the piece, an egg shaker could be played at every beat.

Super Mario Bros was a super popular Nintendo game, but I think the song was even more so. Back in the 80's, game music was written to attract attention to the game itself, rather than enhance the player's experience during the game. It was more or less, just a catchy tune. However, when Koji Kondo wrote the music to Super Mario Bros, he created it as an active part of the game. This idea would help change game music forever.

I feel as if I don't need to give any comments on how to play this piece, but I will say that in the interest of not inundating the sheet music with dots everywhere, this song should be played staccato throughout the piece unless otherwise noted.

This piece has a lot of syncopation, but it is repetitive, so musicians with intermediate skills should be able to play this piece.

The fun thing about La Bamba is that it's been sung and played in every combination possible, and it's still cool. La Bamba is a Mexican folk song that was adapted by Ritchie Valens into a rock 'n roll tune. This clarinet quartet version is not rock 'n roll, but the song remains recognizable, and would be a nice and light addition to your recital program.

Joseph Haydn was an Austrian composer who had a fulfilling career as a court musician in the 1700's and was a friend of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Flötenuhrstücke, or flute clock, was a mechanical instrument similar to what we would now know as a music box. Haydn wrote 32 pieces for this instrument, which have been transcribed for piano solo. This arrangement includes pieces 1 through 4 for clarinet quartet. I have made many note changes to these pieces, so if you are looking for a true transcription, this is not it. Most of the chord structure remains intact, although the 4th movement is 40/60 Haydn and mine. My intent was to arrange this work in a way that kept all 4 musicians playing 99% of the time without any 2 parts having to play the exact same thing for too long. Again, if you are familiar with the original work, this arrangement will sound different, and I'm not so sorry about it. ;) It is simple enough for musicians with intermediate skill. This Christmas song is one of the classics. Every time I hear it, I picture the characters from "Peanuts" skating on the ice. This piece has great jazz chords and it helps bring calm to a sometimes hectic time of year. It's a great piece to add to your Christmas program!
