?Pop!? was written in early 2016 for the ?Klarinet Kerfuffle,? a day of workshops and recitals for clarinetists of all ages in Saskatchewan. It is a short romp with the folk tune, ?Pop Goes the Weasel.? This piece was meant to be performed at the closing concert by the grade 7 and 8 ensemble, but it proved too difficult for the short time they had to prepare. Almost twice the length of the original orchestral version, which is very short anyway, this arrangement captures its very essence: unforgettable melody and bouncy, infectious rhythm - Tchaikovsky at his most joyful. Down from Bb major to Eb major for the sake of Clarinet 1, (the orchestral version features high flutes) the sound is full, bright and full of bounce - great fun to play as an encore.
