The Clarinet Sonata Op.167 (1921) by Camille Saint-Saens is a staple and beloved work in the clarinet repertoire. This arrangement for clarinet quintet keeps the solo intact while arranging the piano part for clarinet quartet (3Bb,Bass). It makes a refreshing addition to a traditional clarinet recital as well as adding a classic to the clarinet ensemble repertoire. All four movements are included in this arrangement. Composed by Antonín Dvorak in 1893 while still director of the National Conservatory of Music of America, his orchestral setting of the American Spiritual Going Home is a cornerstone of the symphonic repertoire. This incredibly simple and beautiful theme has been arranged here for clarinet quintet. This second movement is introduced by a harmonic progression of chords that can be interpreted as a musical rendition of the narrative formula \"Once upon a time.\" The movement\'s middle section contains a passage in C♯ minor evoking a nostalgic and desolate mood which eventually leads into a funeral march above pizzicato steps in the bass clarinet. It is followed by a quasi-scherzo that incorporates this movement\'s theme as well as the first movement\'s main and closing themes. The Largo is concluded with the soft return of the main theme and introductory chords.

A hallmark of this American TV series is each episode's opening scene, in which Briggs or Phelps receives his instructions from a faceless voice, delivered on a recording which then self-destructs; this is immediately followed by the theme music, composed by Lalo Schifrin. This music is presented here in an exciting arrangement for clarinet quintet with optional drum kit; it works as a great opener to a concert.
