This song was performed by the Beatles on Our World, the first live global television link; the BBC had commissioned the Beatles to write a song for the United Kingdom's contribution. Recorded in 1967, it had Lennon playing harpsichord, Paul McCartney on double bass, George Harrison on violin (an instrument he had never previously played), and Ringo Starr on drums, plus vocals, piano (played by their producer, George Martin), banjo (by Lennon), guitar and orchestral parts. The song has dramatic time changes and some unusual use of harmony. I have presented it here to work well as a small group arrangement.

It was the first Carpenters hit composed by Richard Carpenter & John Bettis, it was also the first Carpenters song which featured a distorted guitar solo. On October 15, 1951, the very first episode of the I Love Lucy show aired on CBS and became the most watched TV show in the U.S. for four of its seven-year run. Fun trivia about the opening theme song is that during the first season the show opened with their sponsor Philip Morris’ animation of stick figure cartoons of Lucy and Desi climbing down a pack of Philip Morris cigarettes. It was scored with Ferde Grofé’s Jr. The Grand Canyon Suite theme (a composition from 1931).From the second season onwards, the I Love Lucy signature tune we all know so well became the main theme, and one of the most recognizable pieces of music on the planet. It was written by composer Eliot Daniel who cranked it out in an afternoon as a favor to his old Coast Guard buddy Jess Oppenheimer, the show’s producer. Since Daniel still had another year under his exclusive contract to Fox, he asked Oppenheimer to keep his name out of it. Consequently his name does not appear on first or the second season TV credits for what became one of the most popular TV themes. Later, Daniel did seek credit and received royalties from syndicated reruns for the rest of his life.The lyrics were written by Harold Adamson for an episode in the third season in which Lucy believes everyone has forgotten her birthday. So of course Ricky saves the day after a near disaster.This arrangement for Woodwind Quintet includes a Bass Clarinet part (Bassoon sub.) plus optional Acoustic Bass and Drum Set parts remains faithful to the original.Performance Time Approx. 1 minute 25 seconds

It has become a jazz standard.It is also known as Interlude. Gillespie called the tune Interlude and said some genius decided to call it 'Night in Tunisia'. He said the tune was composed at the piano at Kelly's Stables in New York. He gave Frank Paparelli co-writer credit in compensation for some unrelated transcription work, but Paparelli had nothing to do with the song. A Night in Tunisia was one of the signature pieces of Gillespie's bebop big band, and he also played it with his small groups. In January 2004, The Recording Academy added the 1946 Victor recording by Gillespie to the Grammy Hall of Fame.On the album A Night at Birdland Vol. 1, Art Blakey introduced his 1954 cover version with this statement: At this time we'd like to play a tune [that] was written by the famous Dizzy Gillespie. I feel rather close to this tune because I was right there when he composed it in Texas on the bottom of a garbage can. The audience laughs, but Blakey responds, Seriously. The liner notes say, The Texas department of sanitation can take a low bow.The complex ostinato bass line in the A section is notable for avoiding the standard walking bass pattern of straight quarter notes, and the use of oscillating half-step-up/half-step-down chord changes (using the Sub V, a tritone substitute chord for the dominant chord) gives the song a unique, mysterious feeling. The B section is notable for having an unresolved minor II-V, since the chord progression of the B section is taken from the B section of the standard Alone Together, causing the V chord to lead back into the Sub V of the A section.Like many of Gillespie's tunes, it features a short written introduction and a brief interlude that occurs between solo sections - in this case, a twelve-bar sequence leading into a four-bar break for the next soloist.

Even though the original work is for strings, this did not prevent this beautiful adaptation, where the original essence of the work was maintained, being made only an adaptation of the tonality and some adaptations in the tessitura of the instruments. This piece can be used for professional and academic recitals, didactic material and repertoire for ensemble practice as well, which does not prevent professional musicians and instructors from using it for performances of their preference. Luigi Boccherini was born in the city of Lucca, in northern Italy. He studied cello and became a virtuoso who eventually moved to Spain, where he worked with the Spanish royal family for the rest of his life. His String Quintet in E major, Op. 11, No. 5, G 275, was written in 1771 and published in 1775, and is one of his most famous works.The quintet is famous for its minuet and trio, third movement which is often played as an independent piece outside the context of the full quintet. This is notably the most famous, it is in 3/4 time, in the key of E Major modulating to A Major. This is a beautiful work, and not just the third movement, with good partial writing for all. The lovely, flowing melodies and rhythms are typical of Boccherini. The quintet is suitable for both concerts and home performances.

Healy WILLAN Chaconne 1956 (from Rondino,Elegy & Chaconne, for Organ)Composer of over 800 works and teacher for over 50 years, Mr.Willan was known for long as the Dean of Canadian Composers and was a fixture of the Toronto music scene for a very long while. Apparently he wrote Operas and Symphonies as well, but these have not been easily available to experience. Perhaps this is just Canadian natural reticence or 'reserve'. However, it's a characteristic that is not conducive to cultivating popularity. Nevertheless, Willan's music is simply lovely, and it's nice to know that, if you 'cotton on' to it, you will probably never exhaust his supply, at least to play.

The title and lyrics refer to a folklore character, the Sandman, who puts people to sleep and inspires beautiful dreams by sprinkling magical sand onto their eyes. The dream The Chordettes ask for in the song is a potential lover, or dreamboat.This arrangement for clarinet quintet has been transposed up a half step to better suit Bâ™ clarinets. The four voices of The Chordettes are represented in the Bâ™ clarinet parts with the accompanying upright bass in the bass clarinet part. All accented notes should be played as bell tones. There is also an optional part for tenor saxophone, which adds short jazzy interjections.
