This band was famous for its saxophone section, which featured the unusual lineup of three Tenor Saxophones and one Baritone Saxophone (TTTB). This saxophone quartet arrangement is often referred to as the Four Brothers†lineup. Four Brothers (the piece) is now a jazz standard and a showcase piece for any saxophone section.This version is a transcription (or leadsheet) of the main theme. The key matches the original. In addition to the original TTTB lineup, I've added as many additional parts as possible. Saxophone Quartet (SATB or AATB)In the Bleak Mid-Winter is a popular Christmas Carol which has been set to music by both Gustav Holst and Harold Darke. This sax quartet arrangement is based on the Holst version and combines the composer's beautifully simple harmony with the arranger's own counter-melodies and intricate wind writing. Lovely writing for all instruments. An ideal work for Christmas concert programming.This is a through-composed instrumental arrangement that explores the melody and harmonies of the Holst hymn in 3 differently arranged verses. After a short introduction the first verse uses Holst’s original 4-part harmonisation in its beautiful simplicity, with soprano saxophone playing the melodic line. In verse 2, the tenor sax presents the tune in a lower register while the baritone plays a Baroque style ‘walking bass’. The sopranoe and alto weave countermelodies above them, introducing new material for a Pachelbel-like interlude of an ascending sequence - bringing the music to a climax before subsiding into verse 3. Here a slightly ornamented version of the tune returns with the new material continuing in the bass line. After another smaller climax we return to the original Holst as the work ends quietly and thoughtfully.

For this setting for sax quartet (SATB), I chose to use an Afro Pop style. The bari sax part in particular is quite active! Goldberg was indeed a student of C. P. E Bach, Bach’s son and the son might have asked his father to write these works for his brilliant student. No manuscript for the Goldberg Variations exists, only a first edition corrected in the hand of Bach which contains certain tempo indications and other markings. The first edition also carried the following title: « Clavierübung, consisting of an Aria with diverse variations for the Harpsichord with two manuals composed for music lovers to refresh their spirits by J. Rose has just endured a rather tedious and stuffy formal dinner dance with her fiancée and his aristocratic friends. Jack sees that she is bored and uncomfortable in this very pretentious social circle and decides to try to lighten her mood (and win her heart), taking her aside and asking her, So do want to go to a real party? Rose accepts Jack’s invitation and they are soon whirling about the dance floor with the other passengers in third class aboard the ill-fated ocean liner, carefree and unaware of the tragedy that awaits them. E lucevan le stelle (When the stars were brightly shining) is the romanza of Mario Cavaradossi, the tenor, a painter in love with Tosca, in the third act of Puccini's opera Tosca, composed in 1899 to an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. It is sung by Cavaradossi while he waits for his execution on the roof of Castel Sant’Angelo.  The aria is introduced by a somber clarinet solo. The incipit of the melody (heard in outline earlier in the act, as the sky lightens and the gaoler prepares for the execution) is repeated on the lines O dolci baci, o languide carezze (With sweetest kisses, tenderest caresses), and also restated in forte in the closing bars of the opera, as Tosca jumps from the ramparts. This arrangement for SATB Saxophone Quartet will allow your audience to enjoy one of the most well-known arias in all of Opera while at the same time giving your quartet a chance to demonstrate your versatility. Powerhouse (1937) is an instrumental musical composition by Raymond Scott, perhaps best known today as the iconic assembly line music in animated cartoons released by Warner Bros. The first use of Powerhouse in a cartoon occurred in the 1943 Warner Bros., Looney Tunes short Porky Pig’s Feat, directed by Frank Tashlin. Also in 1943, it was used in the Private Snafu shorts Gripes, Spies, and Rumors. It was subsequently featured in over 40 other Warner Bros. cartoons. This piece is quite long (6.31) but it can be made shorter by omitting the repeats (4.54) or just using the main waltz themes without repeats (2.30) by starting one beat before letter A and finishing at the bar before letter G.Gold and Silver waltz was composed by Franz Lehar (1870-1948) for Princess Pauline von Metternich’s “Gold and Silver†Ball in January 1902. It has been made popular in recent times by André Rieu and his orchestra.
