Arnold was born in Northampton, Northamptonshire, England in 1921. He not only wrote music for films, but also a great deal of compositions or a more serious nature. He wrote his English Dances (set 1) in 1950 and they became instantly popular. This is a setting for sax quartet of two movements, Mesto, and Allegro. The instrumentation is 2 altos and 2 tenor saxophones by John Gibson. The sample recording is from the 2nd movement.

The Partitas, BWV 825-830, are a set of six keyboard suites composed by Johann Sebastian Bach and published in 1731 as his Opus 1, the first of his works to be published under his direction. They were among the last keyboard suites Bach composed, written between 1725 and 1731, after the English and French Suites. Each partita consists of a series of dances, typically opening with a prelude-like movement followed by an Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, and Gigue, with additional dances inserted. The tonalities of the six partitas form an ascending and descending pattern of intervals, starting and ending with keys related to Bach's name (B-flat and B). Bach supervised the publication, initially publishing them separately before compiling them into the 1731 Clavier-Übung collection. Many surviving printed copies contain handwritten annotations, some likely stemming from Bach himself, providing insights into the composer's final intentions. They are among Bach's greatest keyboard works, demonstrating mastery of counterpoint, expression, and the instrument's technical capabilities. The partitas range widely in character, from the poetic No. 1 in B-flat to the monumental tragic No. 6 in E minor. Suite from Abdelazer Henry Purcell (1659-1695) SATB Saxophone Quartet Suite from Abdelazer by Henry Purcell, arranged for saxophone quartet SATB. Purcell wrote the incidental music for the play Abdelazer (sometimes spelled 'Abdelazar') in 1695, shortly before his death. It is a lively mix of songs and dances of the time. Typical of the day, several of the movements became well known as popular songs. The rondo was later made famous by Benjamin Britten, who used it as the theme for his set of variations, ‘The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra’. The rondo as well as another selection, the Hornpipe, was included in the 2005 film Pride and Prejudice.This transcription for saxophone quartet SATB of Suite from Abdelazar is comprised of five of the ten selections Purcell wrote for the play. The movements are as follows: I. Overture II. Minuet III. Hornpipe IV. Air V. Rondo About the Composer: Henry Purcell (born c. 1659, London, England—died November 21, 1695, London) was an English composer of Baroque music. Purcell's musical style was uniquely English, although it incorporated Italian and French elements. Generally considered among the greatest English opera composers, Purcell is included with John Dunstaple and William Byrd as England's most important early music composers. Later, Purcell's music also had a strong influence on the composers of the English musical renaissance of the early 20th century.The cause of Purcell's untimely death at the age of 36 is unclear. There are many theories, some preposterous (he died from chocolate poisoning), some more likely: he died of tuberculosis. Purcell was universally mourned as a very great master of music.  Following his death, the officials at Westminster honoured him by unanimously voting that he be buried with no expense spared in the north aisle of the Abbey.

The download contains a full score and a set of parts.Three Picasso Portraits were commissioned by the Saxology Saxophone Quartet and were first performed St Martin's in the Fields, London, in June 1992. Look no further than the Snowdrift Galop written by British composer, Charles Coote Jnr. It starts off just like Jingle Bells - and the Jingle Bells theme keeps coming back, but is it actually Jingle Bells? It also has a march-like theme and a lovely Trio section. All players get to play important melodic material in this arrangement.Snowdrift Galop was published in London in 1868 in a small collection of works by various composers. The opening theme is immediately recognisable as the popular holiday favourite, Jingle Bells, which was published 11 years earlier, yet the composer gives no reference or credit to the earlier work. Although the opening soprano sax theme is the same as Jingle Bells, we get a stately march instead of the familiar Jingle Bells chorus. A lovely Trio introduces another new tune which is played by tenor, then baritone sax, before returning to the opening section on Alto.Charles Coote Jnr (1831-1916) was a prolific English composer of popular music, including quadrilles, waltzes and galops. His music was written for society balls and subsequently published for piano, so that others could play them at local dances or in their ownhomes. He was the son of composer and bandmaster, Charles Coote (1809-1880). Coote Snr worked for the 6th Duke of Devonshire for 30 years, conducted his private orchestra, and was referred to by the Duke as his personal pianist. Growing up in this environment would have ensured that Coote Jnr was well connected with British society.Duration - 4 minutes.
