Jeff Tincher #6017717. Published by Jeff Tincher (A0.584662). This composition begins with a 12/8 rock tempo. Although it is written in C, the composition is begins in D Minor. The Bari Sax keeps the 12/8 going while the other three saxes become punctuations. The punctuation continues while the Soprano Sax plays the melody. At measure 15 the song moves into a 6/8 feel. At measure 34 the song returns to the original 12/8 feel. The composition then splits to where the Tenor Sax takes on harmony in the 12/8 feel while the Soprano and Alto Saxes take on a 6/8 countermelody. A short bridge is created by stacking the other 2 saxes on top of the Tenor and Bari 12/8 feel. Then it splits again to where the Alto stays with the Tenor and Bari pattern and the Soprano Sax goes off on it's own. During this time the Soprano folds in the 6/8 melody, creating a pleasant conflict. The song D.C.'s to the original 12/8 content. Christmas Day is a choral fantasy on old carols, was written in 1910. It was originally composed for SATB with parts for a sizeable orchestra. It lasts for about seven minutes. The work was dedicated ‘To the music students of Morley College’. Apparently it was extremely well-received and had a further presentation on 18 February at a music students’ ‘Tea and Social’ event. A number of well-known carols are used in this ‘fantasy.’ Throughout the piece, the composer makes use of ‘God rest you merry gentlemen,’ ‘The First Nowell’ and a traditional melody derived from Brittany used to set the words ‘Come ye lofty; come ye lonely.’ The Duration is approx. 6.16 minutes and the level is Advanced Intermediate.

This is the saxophone edition of my arrangement for trombone quartet – different key and a few minor adaptations. Apart from the usual demands of quartet playing, the real challenge here is to keep the groove going in the accompaniment while the lead player pulls the melody around. And the lead changes across all four parts! Without a rhythm section doing it for you, you’ll have to immerse yourself in that Latin groove. You have to feel the pulse of those eighth notes of the underlying rhythm to achieve the tight playing necessary to make this piece sound really convincing. I hope saxophone players will have as much enjoyment with this piece as trombonists have had!Although written for A/T/T/B, an alternative 2nd Alto part is included so the piece can be played A/A/T/B.

This way, once they catch on to the rhythms it should be relatively easy to play.The parts are copied and laid out very clearly to facilitate a fun, easy to play experience.There is a full transposed score for reference.
