Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 4 - SKU: A0.840500 Composed by Bela Bartok. Arranged by Ted R. Marcus. 20th Century,Chamber,Classical,Folk,Multicultural,World. 32 pages. Ted R. Marcus #6267079. Published by Ted R. Marcus (A0.840500). Bartok's popular suite of seven short folk dances from Transylvania, arranged for saxophone quartet (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone). Bartok harmonized and accompanied these delightful tunes in his own distinctive style, mildly tangy but accessible and enjoyable for any audience. It's a fun concert or contest piece for adult and advanced high school players.

Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1406650 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Historic,Standards. 59 pages. Jmsgu3 #989408. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1406650). The importance of Bach's French Suites lies in their unique blend of French and Italian styles despite the misleading title. These suites, composed between 1722 and 1725 for the clavier, showcase Bach's mastery in stylizing traditional dances like allemandes, courantes, sarabandes, and gigues. While named French Suites by later sources like Johann Nikolaus Forkel, they follow Italian conventions with some French influences. The suites offer a rich musical experience, bridging different European styles and serving as valuable teaching pieces. Despite the misleading title, Bach's French Suites are a testament to his compositional genius and continue to be cherished by musicians and audiences alike. The history behind Bach's French Suites is intertwined with a bittersweet period in Bach's life. In May 1720, Bach embarked on a trip, leaving his wife, Maria Barbara, and four children. Tragically, upon his return, he discovered that Maria Barbara had passed away. This loss led to a significant change in Bach's personal life as he became a single father mourning his wife. Despite this tragedy, Bach found love again with Anna Magdalena Wülcken, whom he married. As a gesture of affection and to cultivate her musical skills, Bach composed music for Anna Magdalena, including what would later become the French Suites. These suites were likely performed at court and reflected the couple's intimate musical companionship. The French Suites were not published during Bach's lifetime, possibly because he did not deem it challenging enough. Today, these suites offer an accessible path to Bach's music and are cherished for their stylized dance movements inspired by French and Italian forms.

Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1405104).

Baroque,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Historic,Standards. 475 pages. Jmsgu3 #1014683. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1434546). The Partitas, BWV 825-830, are a set of six keyboard suites composed by Johann Sebastian Bach and published in 1731 as his Opus 1, the first of his works to be published under his direction. They were among the last keyboard suites Bach composed, written between 1725 and 1731, after the English and French Suites. Each partita consists of a series of dances, typically opening with a prelude-like movement followed by an Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, and Gigue, with additional dances inserted. The tonalities of the six partitas form an ascending and descending pattern of intervals, starting and ending with keys related to Bach's name (B-flat and B). Bach supervised the publication, initially publishing them separately before compiling them into the 1731 Clavier-Übung collection. Many surviving printed copies contain handwritten annotations, some likely stemming from Bach himself, providing insights into the composer's final intentions. They are among Bach's greatest keyboard works, demonstrating mastery of counterpoint, expression, and the instrument's technical capabilities. The partitas range widely in character, from the poetic No. 1 in B-flat to the monumental tragic No. 6 in E minor. So, the Partitas represent the culmination of Bach's genius for keyboard composition and his final thoughts on the dance suite genre.YouTube Playlist Link: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLT9KtY0S7DRDEAJI68McqwUGB6XPMvGHl.

Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1421819 Composed by Henry Purcell. Arranged by Robert Stevens. Baroque,Chamber,Classical,Early Music. 32 pages. SAXpress.com #1003167. Published by SAXpress.com (A0.1421819). Suite from Abdelazer Henry Purcell (1659-1695) SATB Saxophone Quartet Suite from Abdelazer by Henry Purcell, arranged for saxophone quartet SATB. Purcell wrote the incidental music for the play Abdelazer (sometimes spelled 'Abdelazar') in 1695, shortly before his death. It is a lively mix of songs and dances of the time. Typical of the day, several of the movements became well known as popular songs. The rondo was later made famous by Benjamin Britten, who used it as the theme for his set of variations, ‘The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra’. The rondo as well as another selection, the Hornpipe, was included in the 2005 film Pride and Prejudice. This transcription for saxophone quartet SATB of Suite from Abdelazar is comprised of five of the ten selections Purcell wrote for the play. The movements are as follows: I. Overture II. Minuet III. Hornpipe IV. Air V. Rondo About the Composer: Henry Purcell (born c. 1659, London, England—died November 21, 1695, London) was an English composer of Baroque music. Purcell's musical style was uniquely English, although it incorporated Italian and French elements. Generally considered among the greatest English opera composers, Purcell is included with John Dunstaple and William Byrd as England's most important early music composers. Later, Purcell's music also had a strong influence on the composers of the English musical renaissance of the early 20th century. The cause of Purcell's untimely death at the age of 36 is unclear. There are many theories, some preposterous (he died from chocolate poisoning), some more likely: he died of tuberculosis. Purcell was universally mourned as a very great master of music.  Following his death, the officials at Westminster honoured him by unanimously voting that he be buried with no expense spared in the north aisle of the Abbey.

Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 5 - SKU: A0.764703 Composed by Erik Satie (1866-1925). Arranged by James Pybus. 20th Century,Contemporary,Contest,Festival. 52 pages. James Pybus #5026489. Published by James Pybus (A0.764703). The Gnossiennes are originally six piano compositions written by the French composer Erik Satie over seven and a half years, between July1889 and January 1897. They were composed by Satie in the decade following the composition of the Trois Sarabandes (1887) and the Trois Gymnopédies (1888). Like these Sarabandes and Gymnopédies, the Gnossiennes are often considered dances. It is not certain that this qualification comes from Satie himself – the sarabande and the Gymnopaedia were at least historically known as dances. They have been arranged here for SATB Saxophone Quartet. Impressionistic in nature, each of these short musical gems depicts a different atmosphere and may be performed individually or as a six movement suite. Gnossienne No. 1 is perhaps the most well-known of the six. Overall performance time is 14:33. Please contact me at james.pybus56@gmail.com.

Adrian Borza #2945999. Published by Adrian Borza (A0.1003612). akSax integrates an additive rhythm called aksak, which is a particularity of the Balkans folklore. However, this specific feature is less common in Western musical practices. The work’s metric structure is based on sequences of two, three and four sixteenth notes. These units of unequal length, such as the 2/16, 3/16, and 4/16 meters, are irregularly alternated in order to build musical phrases. The modal pitch structure has its origin in some Geamparale tunes, wedding dances from the Danube Plain and Dobrogea region. The mixture of the symmetrical and asymmetrical meters, together with an extremely fast tempo (i.e. 436 beats per minute or even 500), helps to turn the performer into a masterly artist.Instrumentation: Soprano saxophone in B-flat, Alto saxophone in E-flat, Tenor saxophone in B-flat, Baritone saxophone in E-flatAvailable version: the first movement of akSax may also be performed as a solo piece for Alto saxophone, and it is accessible as a separate file.Format: Full score with introductory text. Individual parts for soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones are also included. Individual parts do not come with covers. Level: This music is best suited for intermediate and advanced musicians.Audio preview: An extract from the first part for solo saxophone
