More recently, the song has found renewed popularity due to its use in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “Avengers†movies. This arrangement takes its cue from the recording by Harry James and his orchestra, and reworks the performance as presented here for Vocal soloist, 3 horns, and Rhythm section. This chart observes the original key and form of the classic recording by Harry James with vocal soloist Helen Forrest. The horn parts closely follow in the footsteps of the original recording, making this a good vehicle to showcase a talented trumpeter. The remaining horns play the supporting role of the most important elements of the large orchestra arrangement which requires strong players on all parts. The Rhythm section/Lead sheet incorporates the chord changes and most important rhythmic elements to allow a flexible instrumentation of rhythm section to adequately feature the trumpeter and vocalist. This arrangement is a great way to showcase talented instrumentalists and vocals on this classic piece of music!

In the score is the sparse secondary piano part, played two octaves apart, and the guitar solo. It has become a favorite in live performances. It includes 9 pages besides the title page. The arrangement features a ragtime piano accompaniment that has been partially notated but will require the player to improvise their part. The chart changes to a swing feel and features an instrumnetal soli. Notation in the piano and bass parts is largely present to make this chart more accessible to younger players and there are requirmenets for the alto and tenor saxes to double clarinet. It is played for wedding receptions, parties, parades and at the end of a jazz funeral. The song is based on a simple 12-bar blues form and has a very singable melody. Before the melody starts, the trumpet plays a loud, high call to which the crowd responds, Hey! From the second season onwards, the I Love Lucy signature tune we all know so well became the main theme, and one of the most recognizable pieces of music on the planet. It was written by composer Eliot Daniel who cranked it out in an afternoon as a favor to his old Coast Guard buddy Jess Oppenheimer, the show’s producer. Since Daniel still had another year under his exclusive contract to Fox, he asked Oppenheimer to keep his name out of it. Consequently his name does not appear on first or the second season TV credits for what became one of the most popular TV themes. Later, Daniel did seek credit and received royalties from syndicated reruns for the rest of his life.The lyrics were written by Harold Adamson for an episode in the third season in which Lucy believes everyone has forgotten her birthday. ORIGINAL MUSIC FOR JAZZ QUARTET This work is from series of 6 related pieces of new music that I have composed and arranged for a new Originals quartet that had its debut on Tuesday March 28 as the final concert of the 2023 season of the long running noontime spring jazz series at the Midwest Trust Center in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The music is written and arranged for a modern jazz quartet. I perform on alto saxophone with the multi-talented William Crain on piano, the master bassist Gerald Spaits, and the brilliant young drummer Morgan Rogers. The mockup audio demos posted are among the first set of compositions written for our group. I actually wrote and arranged all of this music with each of these quartet musicians’ artistry in mind and to record an album. However, I truly welcome other ensembles to perform and program these selections of music too.THIS MUSIC IS BASED UPON THE PHILOSOPHY OF ABUNDANCE (COVEY)Scarcity Mentality is the zero-sum paradigm of life. People with a Scarcity Mentality have a very difficult time sharing recognition and credit, power or profit – even with those who help in the production. They also have a very hard time being genuinely happy for the successes of other people – even, and sometimes especially, members of their own family or close friends and associates. Conversely, Abundance Mentality flows out of a deep inner sense of personal worth and security. It is the paradigm that there is plenty out there and enough to spare for everybody. It results in sharing of prestige, of recognition, of profits, of decision making. Uxmal At Midnight is a slow tango. The tune is fairly simple however it has a beauty that invokes images and feelings of this magical place. This is one of my minimalist pieces. There are times when I use extended forms and times when I need only a few measures to convey a particular mood. The essential features of this piece are its simplicity, harmonic color, and use of space. The one exception to its simplicity is the shifting time. Like other pieces of mine that use shifting time, this music has a fluid movement -- with time expanding and contracting in ways that feel natural to me. For contrast, I decided to have the solo section entirely in 4/4. My minimalist pieces, and others that have a great amount of freedom, are heavily dependent upon the performers to bring the music to life. Shifting time funk (for 5 wind instruments and rhythm section)! The title expresses my disdain for contending with monster SUVs when driving on Connecticut Avenue in Washington, DC. As I envision this music, it is funky and adventurous. The piece is a minimalist composition -- the melody is only 16 bars. However, it has expanded improvisation concepts for the soloist and the ensemble. The ensemble's collective improvisation is to sound like music coming out of car windows in traffic. The sounds change quickly. Different kinds of music come, go, and overlap. Radios (or electronics) may be used for additional layers of sound. The soloists use four chord progression patterns. Each soloist determines which patterns to play and their sequence. The patterns can be played in any order. Ideally, the patterns are determined within a performance instead of before. The soloist communicates the patterns, and when to shift to a new pattern, to the ensemble by hand signals. Music styles can also shift within a solo. Performers can take the music in any creative direction they want to go with it.
