This is “Spring for Woodwind originally a movement from The Four Seasons for strings. This arrangement is from a collection of flex woodwind quintets arranged by Dr. Donald Jay Smith developed over years of teaching secondary school band. The optimal instrumentation is, of course; Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon and Horn. But, additional parts have been added so that a second clarinet can cover the oboe part or a second oboe can cover the clarinet part (I actually had that problem once-two great oboe players (or a flute?) and no clarinet available to cover the part), Bass Clarinet covering Bassoon and a Bb Horn part in case the student only reads that part on the horn or is covered with flugelhorn/baritone or another Bb instrument. The quintets were always performed one per part and the students enjoyed playing this arrangement from 6th grade through high school!

This work was long reputed to be the work of Joseph Haydn, but later scholarship suggested that it was actually written by Leopold Mozart. Its authorship is still disputed, however, and other composers have been proposed as the symphony's true author, including Joseph Haydn's younger brother Michael Haydn, who purportedly contributed movements to the work.Recent research on a newly found manuscript suggests the Austrian Benedictine monk Edmund Angerer (1740–1794) to be the author. If Angerer's manuscript (from 1765, entitled Berchtolds-Gaden Musick) is the original, the Toy Symphony was originally written not in G but rather in C. These findings, however, are disputed among scholars. There is reason to believe that the true composer will likely never be known, in whole or in part, given its confused origins and the paucity of related manuscript sources.Even without a name attached to it, the piece has become a mainstay for children's shows and Christmastime concerts. Each of its three movements features the sounds of actual toys and instruments that sound like they came straight from Geppetto's workshop. The piece calls for a toy trumpet, ratchet, nightingale, cuckoo, drum, and triangle. ( A quail makes it’s only appearance in the 2nd movement.Noisemakers rattle throughout the first of its three movements. The cuckoo and trumpet  call out mischievously during the minuetto of the second movement , and a quail joins the nightingale in the trio. In the short third mvt which is played 3 times, they all play again, each repeat faster than the previous one.The presence of the toy instruments make this a fun piece for children to play, especially when there are also some toys waiting under the tree.My arrangement is based on the Kinder-Symphonie attributed to Leopold Mozart. It is scored in C.It is in 3 mvts and is arranged for wind quintet, and toy percussion.It can be peformed as a stand alone  wind quintet without percussion as all of the important cues (the trumpet and cuckoo) are written in to the instrumnt parts.i have distributed the original strings around the woodwind, and composed an original classical horn part.Sometimes known as The Children’s SymphonyAlso available as a wind dectet/bass arrangement.

Arranged standard wind quintet.Taken from the album The Beatles known as the White Album.  It was written by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon–McCartney, and performed as a solo piece by McCartney with solo acoustic guitar.McCartney explained on Chaos and Creation at Abbey Road, aired in 2005, that the guitar accompaniment for Blackbird was inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach's Bourrée in E minor, a well-known lute piece, often played on the classical guitar.As teenagers, he and George Harrison tried to learn Bourrée as a show off piece. The Bourrée is distinguished by melody and bass notes played simultaneously on the upper and lower strings.McCartney adapted a segment of the Bourrée (reharmonised into the original's relative major key of G) as the opening of Blackbird, and carried the musical idea throughout the song.My arrangement gives the vocal solo to the oboe.The horn sustains throughout.The vid link is of my wind quartet arrangement.

It has been used as the signature tune to Blue Peter, the longest-running children's TV show in the world. The original recording of the theme by Sidney Torch and the New Century Orchestra was used until 1979 when it was replaced by an arrangement by Mike Oldfield of 'Tubular Bells' fame. Since then there have been several versions.This lively arrangement for Wind Quintet features the upper woodwind sharing the main melody between them. The lower parts have their moment with the second theme before the recapitulation of the tune. The wind instrument scoring varied considerably from minuet to minuet but the strings never included any violas. The 12 pieces would most likely have been played at a grand ball for dancing. Here they are arranged for woodwind quintet and can be played by instrumentalists of intermediate standard and above.
