Published by Burke & Bagley (A0.787233). The Second Suite from Razumov derives from the second act of Razumov, Greg Bartholomew’s chamber opera based on the novel Under Western Eyes by Joseph Conrad. The opera tells the story of a young Russian, Razumov, who is caught up in the consequences when a fellow university student, Victor Haldin, assassinates a government minister. Themes for Part 1 are taken from the opening scene of Act Two, in which Haldin’s mother, in exile in Geneva and worried by the lack of news from her son, learns that Victor was the assassin and has now been caught and executed. Part 2 is an instrumental interlude. Part 3 is based on the scene in which Razumov is urged to visit Mrs. Haldin, an encounter Razumov dreads because it was he who informed on Haldin to the government. The final Part corresponds to the scene in which Razumov learns that news received from Russia has released him from suspicion for Haldin’s death by placing responsibility on an innocent man. The Suite was commissioned by a consortium of ensembles led by the Aeolian Winds of Pittsburgh, who presented the world premiere performance on November 9, 2008, at the First Baptist Church of Pittsburgh. Steven Mark Kudlo #728747. Published by Steven Mark Kudlo (A0.1128135). Of intermediate difficulty, this work is in six movements at a length of about 15 minutes. It is polystylistic and minimal. It uses repetitive form in a creative way, all based on the form of the first movement. The three styles used are pandiatonic, expressionistic, and common practice harmony within every movement. Every movement ends with concordant passages, which are also interspersed within each movement. The composition could be used to demonstrate these three styles of harmony. There are multiple meters, some of them unusual, like 5/4 or 7/8, and there is usually a meter change within the movements. Each movement has its dominating key, even though the composition is not based on the key system, but instead, something called functional polystylism is used as a substitute for key relations within each movement. The first and second themes are in different styles, even different meters. Overall, the feel is neoclassic. Dynamics range from mp to f, though within each movement instruments may drop out for the sake of contrast.

Despite being a composer for about 6 years, I have only had a brief formal study of counterpoint. I wanted to enhance my composing technique, so I began studying counterpoint on my own, aiming for a more academic approach. This fugue represents the culmination of all my studies. I completed this piece in its entirety on 31/07/2023, and I am very proud of the results I have achieved. It is a highly lyrical piece for woodwind quintet, offering numerous possibilities for interpretations, and yet, it is easy to perform. It is well-suited for solo and ensemble performances, as well as other school activities involving music performance. I am delighted to be able to offer this piece at a reasonable price, and I sincerely hope you enjoy it as much as I did while writing it.

Bremner's original 1780 London publication. They were also arranged later by Hugo Riemann, and were again wrongly attributed to Giovanni Pergolesi.They are actually 3 movements from 2 of Domenico Gallo's Trio SonatasThey were used by Igor Stravinsky as a basis of the third movement (Scherzino) of his Neo Classical Ballet Pulcinella.The Pulcinella Suite for small chamber orchestra and 3 vocalists which was derived from the ballet, was written in 1922 and has no vocal parts. But even though Stravinsky used Gallo's (Pergolesi's) melodies and bass lines with little change, he managed to put his own unmistakable stamp on the music through his use of modern harmonies and occasional rhythmic modifications.My arrangement is of the the original Gallo pieces:The only change I have made is to move the bar lines so that my piece starts, as does Stravinsky's, with a quaver pickup, rather than Gallo's half bar and a quaver pickup.My arrangement uses Gallo's classical/baroque harmonies.It does not sound too dissimilar to Stravinsky's which sadly will be in copyright for many years.Check out my other arrangements of other music used by Stravinsky in his Pulcinella Suite.

This is an original prelude by Mozart plus his arrangement (in F major) of the Fugue in F# major by J.S. Bach, BWV 882 (from Book 2 of the Well Tempered Clavier). Mozart wrote this to play at the Sunday musicales of Baron van Swieten in Vienna, who insisted that all participants perform music of Bach or Handel. Kaplan is engaged in a project to make classics from other genres available to woodwind players and has also arranged several other great works for this ensemble. The woodwind quintet is especially well suited for contrapuntal music since the distinctive tone colors of the wind instruments bring out the contrapuntal lines and make them clearer to the listener.Note that all six preludes and all six fugues from this work are also available as a single purchase on this website. This third Prelude and Fugue is being made available here for those who would rather buy one prelude and fugue at a time.

Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, 1st Baronet (27 February 1848 – 7 October 1918) was an English composer, teacher and historian of music.Parry's first major works appeared in 1880. As a composer he is best known for the choral song Jerusalem, his 1902 setting for the coronation anthem I was glad, the choral and orchestral ode Blest Pair of Sirens, and the hymn tune Repton, which sets the words Dear Lord and Father of Mankind. His orchestral works include five symphonies and a set of Symphonic Variations.The following is taken from All Music....Helen, Countess of Rador was the wife of the Fifth Earl of Longford Castle, Salisbury and was a close personal friend of Hubert Parry. She was unique in many ways, but perhaps the most intriguing aspect of her personality was her insistence upon doing things not normally viewed as acceptable ways for a proper Victorian Lady to entertain herself. One of these activities was commissioning works for a seventy-two piece chamber orchestra which she then conducted in a public performance in London. The Lady Radnor Suite is one such work, and Lady Radnor and her chamber orchestra gave the first performance June 29, 1894 at St. James Hall. Parry patterned the work on the early classical orchestral suite of dance movements, and the six movements all demonstrate the influence of antiquity.
