IntroduzioneLa trascrizione per quintetto di fiati di Recondita armonia, una delle arie più iconiche dell'opera Tosca di Giacomo Puccini, è concepita per mantenere l'intensità emotiva e la bellezza melodica dell'originale, adattandola a una formazione cameristica che possa esprimere al meglio le sfumature timbriche e dinamiche del brano.Struttura e AdattamentoLa trascrizione è stata realizzata per flauto, oboe, clarinetto, fagotto e corno. Ogni strumento svolge un ruolo specifico nel ricreare la ricchezza orchestrale dell'originale, pur rimanendo fedele alla scrittura vocale e orchestrale di Puccini.- Flauto: Il flauto è stato scelto per riprodurre le linee melodiche più alte e leggere, spesso simili a quelle del violino nella versione orchestrale. La sua brillantezza e agilità permettono di mantenere la chiarezza e la dolcezza della melodia principale.- Oboe: L'oboe, con il suo timbro caldo e penetrante, ricrea l'espressività e l'intensità della voce di Cavaradossi, catturando le sfumature emotive della melodia principale. Il risultato è un arrangiamento che rispetta la grandezza della musica di Puccini, permettendo a un ensemble da camera di esplorare e esprimere le sfumature di uno dei momenti più emozionanti di Tosca.

Mack the Knife (DieMoritat von Mackie Messer) is a ballad from the 1928 Threepenny Opera (Die Dreigroschenoper) - a "play with music" by BertoltBrecht and music by Kurt Weill. The opera begins with the ballad of "Mack theKnife", which introduces the audience to the many terrible crimescommitted by the central character, Macheath (Mack), a notorious criminal inVictorian London.
The song has long been a popular standard and has beenrecorded by many artists, including (among many, many others) Bobby Darin,Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald,
Weill?s music is arranged here for wind quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet in B flat, horn in F and bassoon) by LisaPortus of www.portuspress.com. In addition to the ballad itself Lisa?s arrangementalso features optional sections of Weill?s wind band suite.

Wind Quintet (Flute, Oboe, Bb Clarinet, Horn, Bassoon)In the Bleak Mid-Winter is a popular Christmas Carol which has been set to music by both Gustav Holst and Harold Darke. This wind quintet arrangement is based on the Holst version and combines the composer's beautifully simple harmony with the arranger's counter-melodies and intricate wind writing. Lovely writing for all instruments. An ideal work for Christmas concert programming.This is a through-composed instrumental arrangement that explores the melody and harmonies of the Holst hymn in 3 differently arranged verses. After a short introduction the first verse uses Holst’s original 4-part harmonisation in its beautiful simplicity, with oboe and flute taking turns to play the top line. In verse 2, the French horn presents the tune in a lower register while the bassoon plays a Baroque style ‘walking bass’. The flute,oboe, and clarinet weave countermelodies above them, introducing new material for a Pachelbel-like interlude of an ascending sequence - bringing the music to a climax before subsiding into verse 3. Here a slightly ornamented version of the tune returns to the flute and oboe with the new material continuing in the bass line. After another smaller climax we return to the original Holst as the work ends quietly and thoughtfully.

Wind Quintet (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Horn, Bassoon) This wind quintet version of Schubert's Erl-King is equally at home as a standard recital piece or used as a piece of ghostly music at Halloween. Erlkönig (The Erl-King) is a dramatic poem by the famous German writer and poet, Goethe, written in 1782. Although it has been set to music by many composers, the most well-known is the 1815 setting by Franz Schubert for voice and piano. The Erl-King is a challenging work for the singer because they must portray four distinct characters; narrator, father, son and the Erlkönig himself. Schubert's writing is different for each character in terms of pitch, harmony, rhythm, key (major and/or minor), and melodic shape. Singers usually alter the timbre of their voice to emphasise the different roles. In this arrangement for wind quintet, the arranger takes the timbre differences a step further by assigning the characters to different instruments in the quintet. The flute plays the role of narrator, the clarinet is the anxious son, the horn plays the reassuring ( but then worried) father, and the oboe plays the Erlkönig with his beautiful enticing melodies that try to lead the boy astray. The bassoon plays the rumbling and troubling bass line that helps set the mood.

By this time in his career Satie was filling his scores with non-standard performance instructions, satiric barbs and modernist prose, scattered about on a carefully, expertly fashioned musical structure of experimental harmonies, strangely static rhythms, and radically miniaturized forms. In the case of Les Trois Valses Distinguées du Précieux Dégoûté, Maurice Ravel was undoubtedly the target of Satie’s satire. Ravel was the Précieux Dégoûté (a revolting or jaded dandy, a fop), and Satie’s Trois Valses subtly derided Ravel’s popular Valses nobles et sentimentales, composed four years earlier. I have left the three original wind parts mostly unchanged, with some additional notes as required. I have simplified the string parts in places, making them more playable by the wind player: I have not simply allocated the 5 string parts to the 5 wind players. The second horn part is used for the low sustained notes originally played by the double bass. I have had to utilize notes not in the horns harmonic series, unlike horn 1.
