Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553690). On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring is a tone poem composed in 1912 by Frederick Delius; it was first performed in Leipzig on 23 October 1913. It is the first of Two Pieces for Small Orchestra, the second piece being Summer Night on the River, although these have for many years existed separately on recordings and in the concert hall.The piece opens with a slow three-bar sequence; its first theme is an exchange of cuckoo calls.The second theme is taken from a Norwegian folk song, In Ola Valley, which was brought to his attention by the Australian composer and folk-song arranger Percy Grainger. (The theme was also arranged by Edvard Grieg in his 19 Norwegian Folksongs, Op. 66.)The clarinet returns with the cuckoo calls before the piece ends in pastoral fashion.Arranged symphonic wind and contra bass/tuba.

In the UK it will be a popular addition to Film & TV based programmes because of the march's use as the theme for Monty Python's Flying Circus.Sousa’s The Liberty Bell (March) for Military Band was published in 1893 and became an immediate hit. It was originally scored for: 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, tuba, timpani, cymbals, bass drum, snare drum, and strings. However, it is often performed today by a standard Military Band, consisting of woodwind, brass, and percussion sections. An abbreviated version of Liberty Bell was used as the theme tune for the British television comedy sketch show, Monty Python’s Flying Circus, which ran from 1969 to 1974.This arrangement for Wind Quintet consists of the whole March with its Trio section. The dynamic shaping is based on that used by The President’s Own Band, but the dynamic markings are largely editorial.

Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553729). Leon Jessel, or Léon Jessel (January 22, 1871 – January 4, 1942) was a German composer of operettas and light classical music pieces. Today he is best known internationally as the composer of the popular jaunty march The Parade of the Tin Soldiers, also known as The Parade of the Wooden Soldiers. Jessel was a prolific composer who wrote hundreds of light orchestral pieces, piano pieces, songs, waltzes, mazurkas, marches, choruses, and other salon music. He achieved considerable acclaim with a number of his operettas - in particular Schwarzwaldmädel(Black Forest Girl), which remains popular to this day.Because Jessel was a Jew by birth (he converted to Christianity at the age of 23), with the rise of Nazism in the late 1920s, his composing virtually came to an end, and his musical works, which had been very popular, were suppressed and nearly forgotten.In Great Britain the piece was used for many years in BBC radio's Children's Hour to introduce the series Toytown, based on stories by S. G. Hulme Beaman. I have spread the voices around, so there is NOT a constant tutti of all 5 players The Requiem in D minor, K. 626, is a requiem mass by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791). Mozart composed part of the Requiem in Vienna in late 1791, but it was unfinished at his death on 5 December the same year. A completed version dated 1792 by Franz Xaver Süssmayr was delivered to Count Franz von Walsegg, who commissioned the piece for a requiem service on 14 February 1792 to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of his wife Anna at the age of 20 on 14 February 1791. This is no 4 of the Sequenz Recordare At 130 measures, the Recordare (Remember) is the work's longest movement, as well as the first in triple meter the movement is a setting of no fewer than seven stanzas of the Dies irae. The form of this piece is somewhat similar to sonata form, with an exposition around two themes (mm. 1–37), a development of two themes (mm. 38–92) and a recapitulation (mm. 93–98). It suits the wind quintet. Section III of the requiem is titled “Sequenz†(sequentia or sequence). It is made up of the following pieces I have arrangements of all of them, for varying types of ensemble * Dies irae * Tuba mirum * Rex tremendae * Recordare * Confutatis * Lacrymosa. I have also arranged Mozarts Motet “Ave Verum Corpus†K618.
