Johann Sebastian Bach wrote some song-like, lyrical pieces, often movements in larger compositions for instrumental ensembles, the so called „Airs. This piece, the Air of the second movement of the Suite No.3 in D major, BWV 1068 is one of the most impressive master works ever written in the history of the human being. The piece does not require virtuoso skills to perform and is appropriate for students or amateurs. Without any doubt very pleasant to listen when played by a dedicated and very well rehearsed ensemble, it has always a very powerful effect on the audience. It can be used in concerts and all sorts of spiritual or religious events. In this arrangement for woodwind Quintet the bass is shared by the fagote and the horn as two independent voices that perform „as one. For a matter of study and comparison the original cello part is included in this work. It could be eventually used if the ensemble decides to double the original bass line with both the fagot and the horn. I also could not resist not to interchange the role of the flute and the oboe on the „repetition : I have shortened some of the notes and used various interpretation symbols, accents and nuances, they are mere suggestions for an interpretation and are total absent on the original score. The use of the dot over the notes is called „staccato, it means in this case that the note is shortened to approximately half of its length. Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? is a song that was included on Chicago's 1969 debut album Chicago Transit Authority and released as a single in 1970. According to composer Robert Lamm, it was the first song recorded for the album. The song was not released as a single until two tracks from the band's second album, Make Me Smile and 25 or 6 to 4, had become hits. It reached No. 7 in the U.S. and No. 2 in Canada. Said Lamm: [It's] not a complicated song, but it’s certainly a quirky song. But that was my intent. I wanted to write something that wasn’t ordinary, that wasn’t blues-based, that didn’t have ice cream changes, and would allow the horns to shine and give Lee Loughnane a solo. This arrangement is for saxophone quintet (soprano, alto, two tenors, and baritone) and the melody is passed around the ensemble a bit. The arrangement is suitable for intermediate level players.

This work is a representation of my experimentation with 20th-century harmonies and scales, as noted by Vincent Persichetti in his book Twentieth-Century Harmony. Through this process, I worked to combine aspects of these harmonic ideas with my own voice and focus on harmonic color and nature. Combining the harmonic tendencies of the 20th-century with my own harmonic language, and connecting them through digestible melodies led me to Resonance and Flow, a work that also capitalizes on the nature of the wind quintet's aural characteristics. The wind quintet can be equally homogenous or heterogeneous in timbre, and these can change based on combinations and roles of the instruments. In playing with all of these tools, Resonance and Flow is a representation of 20th-century music with a 21st-century attunement to the audience and their taste.

It was written by band members Paul Mares, Ben Pollack, Mel Stitzel, George Brunies and Leon Roppolo. The tune has become a jazz standard and is one of the most recorded and often played New Orleans jazz compositions.
