Anton (AntonÃn, Antoine) Joseph Reicha (Rejcha) (26 February 1770 – 28 May 1836) was a Czech-born, Bavarian-educated, later naturalized French composer and music theorist. A contemporary and lifelong friend of Beethoven, he is now best remembered for his substantial early contributions to the wind quintet literature and his role as teacher of pupils including Franz Liszt, Hector Berlioz and César Franck.Reicha's 25 wind quintets, composed in Paris between 1811 and 1820, were mostly premiered from 1817 in the foyer of the Théâtre Favart by some of the world's fifinest wind soloists. They were well received and were played al over Europe shortly afterward.Reicha claimed in his memoirs that his wind quintets filed a void:At that time, there was a dearth not only of good classic[al] music, but of any good music at al for wind instruments, simply because the composers knew little of their technique.[Wikipedia]Notes concerning this editionIn preparing this edition various manuscripts were consulted including the facimilies held by the IMSLP and Clarinet Institute. Steven Mark Kudlo #728747. Published by Steven Mark Kudlo (A0.1128135). Of intermediate difficulty, this work is in six movements at a length of about 15 minutes. It is polystylistic and minimal. It uses repetitive form in a creative way, all based on the form of the first movement. The three styles used are pandiatonic, expressionistic, and common practice harmony within every movement. Every movement ends with concordant passages, which are also interspersed within each movement. The composition could be used to demonstrate these three styles of harmony. There are multiple meters, some of them unusual, like 5/4 or 7/8, and there is usually a meter change within the movements. Each movement has its dominating key, even though the composition is not based on the key system, but instead, something called functional polystylism is used as a substitute for key relations within each movement. The first and second themes are in different styles, even different meters. Overall, the feel is neoclassic. Dynamics range from mp to f, though within each movement instruments may drop out for the sake of contrast.

Allison B. Wehrle #714438. Published by Allison B. Wehrle (A0.1112405). Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel wrote the Cholera Cantata in 1831, to mark the end of the epidemic that had devastated Berlin. The original, 13- part work was written for choir and chamber orchestra. The lyrics, derived from Biblical texts, depict both the despair and mourning felt during the height of the epidemic, and also celebratory praise at its cessation. After the initial performance in 1832, the piece remained unpublished (and likely unperformed) until it was rediscovered in the Mendelssohn Archives at the Berlin State Library 150 years later. This arrangement is of the introduction only.

Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, 1st Baronet (27 February 1848 – 7 October 1918) was an English composer, teacher and historian of music.Parry's first major works appeared in 1880. As a composer he is best known for the choral song Jerusalem, his 1902 setting for the coronation anthem I was glad, the choral and orchestral ode Blest Pair of Sirens, and the hymn tune Repton, which sets the words Dear Lord and Father of Mankind. His orchestral works include five symphonies and a set of Symphonic Variations.The following is taken from All Music....Helen, Countess of Rador was the wife of the Fifth Earl of Longford Castle, Salisbury and was a close personal friend of Hubert Parry. She was unique in many ways, but perhaps the most intriguing aspect of her personality was her insistence upon doing things not normally viewed as acceptable ways for a proper Victorian Lady to entertain herself. One of these activities was commissioning works for a seventy-two piece chamber orchestra which she then conducted in a public performance in London. The Lady Radnor Suite is one such work, and Lady Radnor and her chamber orchestra gave the first performance June 29, 1894 at St. James Hall. Parry patterned the work on the early classical orchestral suite of dance movements, and the six movements all demonstrate the influence of antiquity.
