Arranged wind quintet: fl, ob, clt, hn and bsnIn My Life is a song by the English rock band the Beatles. It appeared on their 1965 album Rubber Soul. Its lyrics were written primarily by John Lennon, credited to Lennon–McCartney. George Martin contributed the  solo bridge passage.The song was recorded on 18 October 1965, and was complete except for the instrumental bridge. At that time, Lennon had not decided what instrument to use, but he subsequently asked George Martin to play a piano solo, suggesting something Baroque-sounding. Martin wrote a Bach-influenced piece that he found he could not play at the song's tempo. On 22 October, the solo was recorded with the tape running at half speed, so when played back at normal pace the piano was twice as fast and an octave higher, solving the performance challenge and also giving the solo a unique timbre, reminiscent of a harpsichord.According to Lennon, In My Life was his first real major piece of work because it was the first time he wrote about his own life.In 2000, Mojo named In My Life the best song of all time. Rolling Stone ranked it number 23 on its 2004 list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, and number 98 on the 2021 revised list, as well as fifth on its list of the Beatles' 100 Greatest Songs.i have given 1st verse to oboe, and the 2nd verse to the clarinet.The mp3 excerpt is the end of the clarinet verse going into the bridge.

He came from a musical family and showed great talent for music at a young age. He studied at the Leipzig Conservatory in Germany, where he was exposed to the music of leading German composers, such as Robert Schumann and Felix Mendelssohn.Grieg composed a variety of works, including orchestral music, chamber music, songs, and piano pieces. He is best known for his composition “Peer Gynt,†which includes the popular suite “In the Hall of the Mountain King.†Other famous works by Grieg include the Piano Concerto in A Minor and the Holberg Suite.Throughout his career, Grieg was devoted to promoting Norwegian music and culture. He was a central figure in the Norwegian music scene and worked to establish a national identity through his music.Grieg’s influence on Norwegian music was significant, and he is considered one of the leading figures in the Norwegian Romantic movement. This piece is actually my first film score. It accompanied an animation, but unfortunately, the original artist has made the animation no longer available. The story is still powerful, and the message is still just as relevant. Two young foster children, brother and sister, go from the sadness and fear of being without parents, to the joy of finding a home with a loving family, all while doing their best to hang onto hope and onto each other. For these two young children, I can only imagine it feeling like the end of the world, and not an experience they could possibly grow from. However, this story is a true story, and it is the animator's story. And look where she ended up! A student at the University of Michigan that has since gone on to work for major companies such as Nickelodeon and even NASA. As an artist, I respect her decision to not continue sharing her animation, and I am so unbelievably grateful and humbled to have had the honor of writing the score to her story when I had the chance.More arrangements and originals by JP Wogaman II can be found at www.wogamusic.com

Donuts, if you make a mistake!The initial incarnation of these studies were written for trombone quartet and we would play them in the Tennessee Tech Trombone Choir with the challenge that whomever made the first mistake had to buy donuts for the rest of the ensemble. Since then I have brought that version to several clinics and warm up sessions. One time before I got to explain the title, a fellow trombone professor said, Oh, I get it! Don’t step in the holes!I only wish I had thought of that myself... Since we have one of the best donut shops in TN here in Cookeville, treating the studio to sugar coated goodies was always my intent.As with those initial exercises, you can vary these as much as you’d like.· Choose a tempo.· Choose a dynamic.· Choose an articulation/style.One way I like to play these is to have one person be the model, playing the entire scale over and over while everyone else plays the fragmented versions. That helps everyone to keep on track and stay in time. Double or triple up the parts for ensemble cohesion with a larger group.Practice one key, gradually speeding it up to improve fluidity, or choose a variation and take it through all keys, playing version A, B, C, or D then skipping to play the same set in a new key.If you want an additional challenge, play them in different octaves or change the key. Play the F Major set in f minor (all forms), different modes, etc. Players really have to be on their toes to remember if they are playing melodic minor in the ascending or descending form! For jazz players, try swinging them in dorian or mixolydian modes.The variations are endless!If you are using these with transposing instruments, 1) is F Major in Concert Pitch, 2) is Bb Major in Concert pitch, and so on. When you reach a scale that is enharmonic for another key (Db/C#, Gb/F#, or Cb/B), they are presented in both keys for each instrument so Trumpets can play in Eb while the Flutes are playing in C# with similar examples for all keys.All Donut Etudes with the same volume number are compatible so you can play them in mixed quartets or large ensembles with one or more instruments/people on part 1 and a different instrument on part 2, etc. Since the quartets are all identical, conductors/coaches can use any of the scores to tell which part should be playing at what time. Once you have played a scale with one set of parts, everyone can rotate to a different part and play the same scales again!Enjoy!

Grieg: Lyric Pieces Op.38 No.5 Springdans (Spring Dance/Leaping Dance)Lyric Pieces (Norwegian: Lyriske stykker) is a collection of 66 short pieces for solo piano written by Edvard Grieg. They were published in 10 volumes, from 1867 (Op. 12) to 1901 (Op. 71).The collection includes several of his best known pieces, such as Wedding Day at Troldhaugen (Bryllupsdag på Troldhaugen), To Spring (Til våren), March of the Trolls (Trolltog), and Butterfly (Sommerfugl).This is my arrangement  of No.5 Springdans (Spring Dance/Leaping Dance) from his Lyric Pieces Op.38Arranged wind quintetAlthough Spring Dance is the traditional translation of the Norwegian Springdans, the word refers to its sense in English of leap or jump  rather than to the season Spring.  The booklet notes to Grieg: Complete Works for Piano Solo; Gerhard Oppitz, Piano use  the less ambiguous translation Leaping Dance.The melody is taken by clarinet, then oboe then flute.
