Johann Sebastian Bach wrote some song-like, lyrical pieces, often movements in larger compositions for instrumental ensembles, the so called „Airs. This piece, the Air of the second movement of the Suite No.3 in D major, BWV 1068 is one of the most impressive master works ever written in the history of the human being. The piece does not require virtuoso skills to perform and is appropriate for students or amateurs. Without any doubt very pleasant to listen when played by a dedicated and very well rehearsed ensemble, it has always a very powerful effect on the audience. It can be used in concerts and all sorts of spiritual or religious events. In this arrangement for woodwind Quintet the bass is shared by the fagote and the horn as two independent voices that perform „as one. For a matter of study and comparison the original cello part is included in this work. It could be eventually used if the ensemble decides to double the original bass line with both the fagot and the horn. I also could not resist not to interchange the role of the flute and the oboe on the „repetition : I have shortened some of the notes and used various interpretation symbols, accents and nuances, they are mere suggestions for an interpretation and are total absent on the original score. The use of the dot over the notes is called „staccato, it means in this case that the note is shortened to approximately half of its length. Published by Wilian Dolfini (A0.954839). Despite the great beauty and genius Bach demonstrated in this magnificent work, it is not very accomplished today, except by professional groups. So our intention in adapting it for two Woodwind Quintets was to bring the chance to make this work sound in music schools, in independent groups, in churches, etc. It is of intermediate level and quite possible to be carried out by students. Watch the video we made of this adaptation!Komm, Jesu, komm (Come, Jesus, come), BWV 229, is a motet by Johann Sebastian Bach, with a text by Paul Thymich. It was composed in Leipzig, and received its first performance by 1731–1732.Bach scored the motet for double choir. It was probably composed for a funeral, as others of his motets but exact dates of composition and performance are not known. It is his only motet without biblical text. He set a poem by Paul Thymich, which Johann Schelle set as a funeral aria in 1684. Also unusually, the motet is not closed by a chorale, but by an aria which is harmonized like a chorale.The work has been described as having a confident, intimate and tender character, and making more use of polychorality (interplay of the two choirs) than polyphony (interplay of the voices). Each verse the pitch goes up by a tone until the final verse which returns to the original key. Everybody except the Contrabassoon has a go at the melody and each verse is harmonised in a different syle. Verse 1 is a solo for Oboe, Verse 2 is a duet for oboe and Bassoon 3. Verse 3 adds the 1st Bassoon and Contra, Verse 4 is the first verse with all instruments playing. Verse 5 is a trio for Bassoons 2, 3 and contra. Verse 6 uses all instruments for the finale.This is a very simple arrangement and should be playable by any standard of ensemble.

C Jam Blues is a jazz standard composed in 1942 by Duke Ellington and performed by countless other musicians, such as Dave Grusin, Django Reinhardt, Oscar Peterson, and Charles Mingus, arranged here for Recorder Quintet.As the title suggests, the piece follows a twelve-bar blues form in the key of C major. The tune is well known for being extremely easy to play, with the entire melody featuring only two notes: G and C.A performance typically features several improvised solos. The melody likely originated from the clarinetist Barney Bigard in 1941, but its origin is not perfectly clear.It was also known as Duke's Place, with lyrics added by Bill Katts, Bob Thiele and Ruth Roberts.Ellington's black and white film was produced in 1942. The video depicts a jam session where Ellington begins playing with a double bass before gradually being joined by other members of his band, among them drummer Sonny Greer and trumpeter Rex Stewart. The film title is Jam Session. Western Swing band leader Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys recorded the song sometime between 1945 and 1947 as part of the Tiffany Transcriptions. Bill Doggett recorded a version on his 1958 tribute album Salute to Duke Ellington (King). C Jam Blues was used by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band as the basis of their song The Intro and the Outro. Mulgrew Miller and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen included the song in their 1999 album The Duets. Published by Stephanie Daige (A0.796898). This little fugue is one of Bach's most famous and beloved organ works. Reimagined for woodwind quintet, it is a challenging and fun setting for this fugue. The five instruments take turns entering with the subject of the fugue, and interplay back and forth with the other instruments. The timbres of the different instruments add a whole new dimension to this already fascinating work by J.S. Bach. I considered the need to breathe for each of this wind instruments, which obviously wasn't an issue in the original version intended for organ. This piece would be appropriate for advanced high school students, college students, or professionals. It would do well in a chamber music recital, a church, or an online virtual concert. It would also work as prelude or lobby music. Duration is just over three minutes (or longer if you prefer to take it slower). Each measure is numbered individually for convenience during rehearsals. It is sympathetic to the original music and should be easily accessible for intermediate to advanced players. Alternative parts for Horn and Bassoon are also included for non standard ensembles on Tenor Horn in Eb and Bass Clarinet respectively. There is also an optional percussion part on Timpani (A & E) that can easily be played on old fashioned hand tuned instruments, and will lend a bit more gravitas to any performance. The piece is very musically satisfying to play and will sit well on any concert or recital programme. The duration of the piece is about 4:50 minutes.
