Score and parts. 38 pages. Piper Publications #5324185. Published by Piper Publications (A0.811728). 5 Minuets arranged for flute, oboe, clarinet in Bb, horn in F & bassoon. Numbers 1, 3 & 5 each have two trios, numbers 2 & 4 do not have trios. The originals for string quartet were composed on November 19th 1813 - exactly fifteen years before Schubert's death at the age of 31. They remained unpublished until 1886, though they were probably performed at social gatherings of Schubert and his friends along with the 5 German Dances with 7 trios and Coda composed around the same time. The variety of style and content shows Schubert experimenting and pushing the boundaries of the minuet beyond Classical into the Romantic era. Players of intermediate standard and above will enjoy exploring these exuberant pieces.

This haunting piece of music from Beethoven's 7th Symphony has been carefully abridged and arranged for a standard Wind Quintet (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Horn in F and Bassoon). It is sympathetic to the original music and should be easily accessible for intermediate to advanced players. Alternative parts for Horn and Bassoon are also included for non standard ensembles on Tenor Horn in Eb and Bass Clarinet respectively. There is also an optional percussion part on Timpani (A & E) that can easily be played on old fashioned hand tuned instruments, and will lend a bit more gravitas to any performance. The piece is very musically satisfying to play and will sit well on any concert or recital programme. The duration of the piece is about 4:50 minutes. The PDF is 28 pages long (A4 portrait) containing a full score and parts. Printing guidance - Score (pages1-13 print A4 double sided), all parts p14-28 (with the exception of Timpani p28) are designed to fit 2 x A4 pages on A3). Look out for other similar works and arrangements by the same publisher.

Published by ACORDO Sheet Music (A0.777940). Gottfried Reiche (1667-1734) was a master on the trumpet in Germany. He had been Johann Sebastian Bach’s chief trumpeter at Leipzig. He composed Abblasen and Turmmusik (Tower Music), which was played with wind instruments from a tower. His extant Tower Music is only one suite, 24 Neue Quatricinien. Every piece is excellent counterpoint music with plain notes as can be seen on the scores. It is a great gift for players including beginners who want to enjoy rich counterpoint music! Enough cue notes are deployed in the part-scores for ensemble-beginners.

I have tried as far as possible to arranage the piece as though Beethoven would have written it. The horn is in Ab alto and I have tried as far as possible to use the notes of the natural horn.(This works better in some of the variations. I have used Ab basso for variation III. A horn in F part is also included. Variation 2:I have taken some liberties in that the constant syncopation in the R.H.piano part would not sit well on wind instruments, so I have retained Beethoven's harmonies and maintained the feel of the piece. Variation 3 is in Ab minor (7 flats) so may well present some difficulties for the players playing in an unfamiliar key!. The theme and othe variations are more playable.

'Harmoniemusik' was usually played outdoors, and the music ranged from small forms, such as marches, polonaises, ecossaises and other dances, to multi-movement works such as the Serenades of Mozart and the great Octet in Eb major Op. 103 by Beethoven himself. This particular march was originally scored for the then traditional line-up of two clarinets, two bassoons and two horns.

Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? is a song that was included on Chicago's 1969 debut album Chicago Transit Authority and released as a single in 1970. According to composer Robert Lamm, it was the first song recorded for the album. The song was not released as a single until two tracks from the band's second album, Make Me Smile and 25 or 6 to 4, had become hits. It reached No. 7 in the U.S. and No. 2 in Canada. Said Lamm: [It's] not a complicated song, but it’s certainly a quirky song. But that was my intent. I wanted to write something that wasn’t ordinary, that wasn’t blues-based, that didn’t have ice cream changes, and would allow the horns to shine and give Lee Loughnane a solo. This arrangement is for saxophone quintet (soprano, alto, two tenors, and baritone) and the melody is passed around the ensemble a bit. The arrangement is suitable for intermediate level players.

The Carnival of the Animals (Le carnaval des animaux) is a humorous musical suite of fourteen movements by the French Romantic composer Camille Saint-Saëns. The work was written for private performance by an ad hoc ensemble of two pianos and other instruments, and lasts around 25 minutes.Originally scored Double bass and piano: this section is marked Allegro pomposo, the perfect caricature for an elephant. The piano plays a waltz-like triplet figure while the bass hums the melody beneath it. Like Tortues, this is also a musical joke-the thematic material is taken from the Scherzo from Mendelssohn's incidental music to A Midsummer Night's Dream and Berlioz's Dance of the Sylphs from The Damnation of Faust. The Carnival of the Animals (Le carnaval des animaux) is a humorous musical suite of fourteen movements by the French Romantic composer Camille Saint-Saëns. The work was written for private performance by an ad hoc ensemble of two pianos and other instruments, and lasts around 25 minutes.This is mvt IV arranged wind quintet.The original version is a satirical movement which opens with a piano playing a pulsing triplet figure in the higher register. The strings play a slow rendition of the famous Galop infernal (commonly called the Can-can) from Offenbach's operetta Orphée aux enfers (Orpheus in the Underworld).I have given the tune to the horn, with the triplet figures in the other winds. I have adopted the triplet figures to allow the wind players to breathIt is very short.(about 1 min 20 secs)

Published by Piper Publications (A0.1195439). 6 Diversions on a well-known tune for woodwind quintetThese variations on the folk song, Early One Morning, were originally written in 1950 in response to a commission from Kent Education Committee for a piece to demonstrate the instruments of a chamber orchestra in a series of schools concerts. In 1984 David recast the variations for a quintet of young players in the Wiltshire Youth Orchestra, the new version retaining the feature of highlighting each player in turn with a free for all in the final Rumba.This is a fun piece for quintets of intermediate standard and above and makes a good concert piece of approximately 7 minutes.
