The first one (Strange preludes and double canon) was written in 1992, this one in 2003 and there are numerous sketches (even complete movements) for a third one.The title Oil spots on the water doesn't have much with ecological issues, but rather with those abstract, colourful, poly-semantic shapes of small oil spots on asphalt, especially when it rains.The Wind Quintet Ölflecke auf dem Wasser was selected in 2003 in a shortlist of 31 among 270 compositions for the project Neue Kammermusik für Musikschulen (New chamber music for music schools) by the Verband deutscher Musikschulen (Association of German Schools of Music) in Bonn, Germany.In October 2004 this piece, together with two other pieces by the same composer, received first prize at the Bremer Komponistenwettweberb organised by the Council of the Music (Landsmusikrat) in Bremen, Germany.Ölflecke auf dem Wasser was first performed on 10th July 2004 at the Castle Sonderhausen in Germany by the Wind Quintet of the Music School Carl Schroeder of Sonderhausen: Eva-Maria Albrecht (flute), Malte Schneegaß (oboe), Antje Eckstein (clarinet) Julia Wallis (bassoon), Manuela Hirsch (horn), Stephan Uhl (conductor); in the cycle Neue Musik in alten Residenzen (New Music in old residencies) of the Council of the Music Thüringen.After the premiere, Stephan Uhl published an article about the piece: Juan MarÃa Solares 'Ölflecke auf dem Wasser' (2003) für Bläserquintett. Anregungen zur Praxisarbeit zwischen Interpretation und Improvisation (Oil spots on the water (2003) by Juan MarÃa Solare: Ideas about rehearsal practice between performance and improvisation). This article was published in November 2004 in the book Ensembleleitung Neue Kammermusik (Dokumentation und Arbeitshilfe des Modellprojekts), edited by the VdM (Verband deutscher Musikschulen - Association of German Music Schools), Bonn, ISBN 3-925574-59-X, pages 82-86.In March 2005 Oil spots on the water was chosen in the shortlist at the Piece of the Year Competition organised by Alan Taylor and the London Chamber Group. In this context it was performed on 10th July 2005 at a venue unknown to the composer.

The five movements are titled:Sweetie PieSweet ToothSweet DreamsSweet EnoughSweeten the PotNote: This piece is an edited subset of the Wedding Suite composed for woodwind quintet in 2014. In the original, the horn part was written for trombone and included improvisation. This piece is rewritten to use horn, and improvisation has been removed. The original also included ceremonial music that is not part of this work.There is an optional vocal part (Love is patient, love is kind...) on one movement, with the melody doubled elsewhere.

This arrangement has the melody given to the bassoon, with help from the flute (not heard on the preview clip) and clarinet. There is a middle section where the ensemble members are given the chance to improvise - 1 or 2 people would play the bassline, and another person improvises over the bassline.There are lots of ways to make this piece fun for everyone. Have members of the ensemble take a solo - improvisation is a great skill to have, and it will help your concert program stand out. C Jam Blues is a jazz standard composed in 1942 by Duke Ellington and performed by countless other musicians, such as Dave Grusin, Django Reinhardt, Oscar Peterson, and Charles Mingus, arranged here for Recorder Quintet.As the title suggests, the piece follows a twelve-bar blues form in the key of C major. The tune is well known for being extremely easy to play, with the entire melody featuring only two notes: G and C.A performance typically features several improvised solos. The melody likely originated from the clarinetist Barney Bigard in 1941, but its origin is not perfectly clear.It was also known as Duke's Place, with lyrics added by Bill Katts, Bob Thiele and Ruth Roberts.Ellington's black and white film was produced in 1942. The video depicts a jam session where Ellington begins playing with a double bass before gradually being joined by other members of his band, among them drummer Sonny Greer and trumpeter Rex Stewart. The film title is Jam Session. Western Swing band leader Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys recorded the song sometime between 1945 and 1947 as part of the Tiffany Transcriptions. Bill Doggett recorded a version on his 1958 tribute album Salute to Duke Ellington (King). C Jam Blues was used by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band as the basis of their song The Intro and the Outro. Mulgrew Miller and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen included the song in their 1999 album The Duets. Horn Part in Bb basso ( same as Beethoven's )(alt Hn in F part provided) The Symphony No. 8 in F major, Op. 93 is a symphony in four movements composed by Ludwig van Beethoven in 1812. Beethoven fondly referred to it as my little Symphony in F, distinguishing it from his Sixth Symphony, a longer work also in F.[1] The Eighth Symphony is generally light-hearted, though not lightweight, and in many places cheerfully loud, with many accented notes. Various passages in the symphony are heard by some listeners to be musical jokes. As with various other Beethoven works such as the Opus 27 piano sonatas and the later Ninth Symphony, the symphony deviates from Classical tradition in making the last movement the weightiest of the four. This is my arrangement of the 2nd mvt. There is a widespread belief that this movement is an affectionate parody of the metronome, which had only recently been invented (or more accurately, merely improved) by Beethoven's friend, Johann Maelzel. Specifically the belief was that the movement was based on a canon called Ta ta ta... Lieber Maelzel, WoO 162, said to have been improvised at a dinner party in Maelzel's honor in 1812. However, there is no evidence corroborating this story and it is likely that WoO 162 was not written by Beethoven but was constructed after-the-fact by Anton Schindler. A more likely inspiration was the similar rhythmic parody of Joseph Haydn's Clock Symphony. The metronome-like parody starts at the very beginning of the movement with even staccato chords in 16th-notes (semiquavers). This basic 16th-note rhythm continues fairly steadily through the piece. The tempo is unusually fast for a symphonic slow movement. Richard Wagner has argued that the third movement was intended as the slow movement of this symphony and that the second should be played as a scherzo.
