This collection brings the most well-known and appropriate music for wedding ceremonies, arranged for woodwind quintet, where you can find music from beginner to professional levels of performance. They can be performed not only specifically in marriage ceremonies, but also in serenades, concerts, recitals and others. I. Ave Maria, Charles Gonoud/BACH The piece is composed of a melody by French Romantic composer Charles Gounod specially designed to overlap with Prelude No. Although published in instrumental versions and equipped for various texts during Gounod's lifetime, the claim that he never actually wrote it seems to be literally true. The version of Bach's prelude used by Gounod has the addition of a bar found only in the manuscript of Christian Friedrich Gottlieb Schwencke and the printed edition of Nikolaus Simrock which was based on it, but not in the other Bach manuscripts or the printed work of the scholar Bischoff or G. II. Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Tchaikovsky The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy is a dance for a ballerina. Tchaikovsky introduced the celesta to Russian music lovers on 19 March 1892 when the Nutcracker Suite was performed for the Russian Musical Society in St. Petersburg. It is heard in other parts of Act 2 of The Nutcracker besides the Sugar Plum Fairy's dance. The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy is one of the ballet's best known musical numbers. The complete Nutcracker has enjoyed enormous popularity since the late 1960s and is now performed by countless ballet companies, primarily during the Christmas season, especially in North America. Major American ballet companies generate around 40% of their annual ticket revenues from performances of The Nutcracker. III. Salut d'amour, Elgar It was not published by Schott & Co., a German publisher, with offices in Mainz, London, Paris and Brussels, until a year later, and the first editions were for violin and piano, piano solo, cello and piano, and for small orchestra. As a violin-and-piano piece Salut d'Amour had been recorded for The Gramophone & Typewriter Ltd (predecessor to The Gramophone Company) as early as 1901 by Jacques Jacobs, leader/director of the Trocadero Restaurant orchestra. IV. Nuptial March, Wagner It is a bridal march played at the entrance of many Western wedding ceremonies. In English-speaking countries, it is generally known as Here Comes the Bride or Wedding March, but wedding march refers to any piece in march tempo accompanying the entrance or exit of the bride, notably Felix Mendelssohn's Wedding March. Wagner's piece was made popular when it was used as the processional at the wedding of Victoria the Princess Royal to Prince Frederick William of Prussia in 1858. Unlike the current tradition of it being played at the beginning of the ceremony, the work is performed after the wedding of Lohengrin and Elsa in the opera. V. Wedding March, Mendelssohn Felix Mendelssohn's Wedding March in C major, written in 1842, is one of the best known of the pieces from his suite of incidental music. The first known instance of Mendelssohn's Wedding March being used at a wedding was when Dorothy Carew wed Tom Daniel at St Peter's Church, Tiverton, England, on 2 June 1847 when it was performed by organist Samuel Reay. However, it did not become popular at weddings until it was selected by Victoria, The Princess Royal for her marriage to Prince Frederick William of Prussia on 25 January 1858. The bride was the daughter of Queen Victoria, who loved Mendelssohn's music and for whom Mendelssohn often played while on his visits to Britain.

Wind Quintet (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Horn, Bassoon) On the Trail is the third movement from Ferde Grofé’s Grand Canyon Suite, written between 1929 and 1931; published in 1932. It has since become one of the most popular American musical works of the twentieth century, with On the Trail being the most well-known movement. It portrays a cowboy and his burro (donkey) sauntering through the Grand Canyon, coming across an oasis and a lonely cabin where they hear a music box playing, before continuing their journey. All this is portrayed in the music, including the braying sound of the donkey, its clip-clopping along and the cowboy singing a relaxed Western style song.This lovely and fun arrangement for wind quintet remains faithful to the original; retaining its structure, key and, where possible, its instrumentation. The only section omitted is the violin cadenza. The original orchestral work includes clarinets in Bb. This arrangement is also written for Bb clarinet but an alternative clarinet in A part is included, which is more suited to the key of the work.This is an ideal recital piece for either formal or informal concert settings. The ballet was to be danced as an interlude in the new opera Le finte gemelle by Niccolò Piccinni.[1] The opera was a flop and closed after four performances. This arrangement of Silent Night, or in German, Stille Nacht, would be a wonderful addition to any music library and could be performed for Christmas concerts, recitals, and, especially, church services. It is equally suitable for junior and senior high school students and even older musicians. Depending on their ability, younger musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (7 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time.Silent Night is probably the most popular Christmas carol ever written. It was composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber to lyrics by Joseph Mohr and was first performed on Christmas Eve at St. Nicholas parish church in Oberndorf, a small village in present-day Austria. A young Catholic priest, Father Joseph Mohr, had written the poem, Stille Nacht, in 1816 and had gone to Oberndorf in 1817. The melody was composed by Franz Xaver Gruber, schoolmaster and organist in the nearby village of Arnsdorf. On Christmas Eve, 1818, Mohr brought the words to Gruber and asked him to compose a melody and guitar accompaniment for that night's mass, after river flooding had possibly damaged the church organ. The church was eventually destroyed by repeated flooding and has since been replaced with the Silent-Night-Chapel.According to Gruber, Karl Mauracher, an organ builder who serviced the instrument at the Oberndorf church, was enamored with the song, and took the composition home with him to the Ziller Valley in Tyrol, Austria. From there, two traveling families of folk singers, the Strassers and the Rainers, included the tune in their shows. The Rainers were already singing it around Christmas, 1819, and once performed it for an audience that included Franz I of Austria and Alexander I of Russia. They also gave the first performance of the song in the United States in New York City in 1839. By the 1840's, the song was well known and was reported to be a favorite of Frederick William IV of Prussia. During this period, the melody changed slightly to become the version that is commonly heard today. The version of the melody that is generally used today is a slow, meditative lullaby, or pastoral, differing slightly from Gruber's original which has a moderate tempo. The song has been translated into about 140 languages and has been recorded by many singers across many music genres. The version sung by Bing Crosby in 1935, has sold over 10 million copies as a single.In this arrangement of Silent Night, Regis Bookshar has kept the basic form of this familiar Christmas carol, but has also included a descant during the third verse. It was written and sung by Paul McCartney and credited to the Lennon–McCartney partnership. The lyrics describe the titular fool, a solitary figure who is not understood by others, but is actually wise.McCartney said the idea for the song was inspired by the Dutch design collective the Fool, who derived their name from the tarot card of the same name, and possibly by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The song's segment in the Magical Mystery Tour television film was shot separately from the rest of the film and without the other Beatles' knowledge. Accompanied by a professional cameraman, McCartney filmed the scene near Nice in France.In 1968, Sérgio Mendes & Brasil '66 recorded a cover version of the song that reached the top ten in the US.
