The movements are as follows: Moderato in C major Andantino in A♠major Allegro moderato in F minor (ends in F major) (This One) Moderato in C♯ minor Allegro vivace in F minor (ends in F major) Allegretto in A♠major (ends on an open octave in an A♠minor context) Along with the Impromptus, they are among the most frequently played of all Schubert's piano music, and have been recorded many times. The correct French forms are now usually used – moments (instead of momens), and musicaux (instead of musicals). Alt titles are Moments Musicaux, Pensées musicales, Musical Moments.

I have taken some sympathetic liberties with the broken chords and added other notes of a sustaining nature. I have changed some of the bars containing triplet semiquavers to give a less heavy feel. However, the space is not completely empty, between, the vacuum consists of electromagnetic radiation, magnetic fields and dust and cosmic rays. Within this space, planets and moon freely orbits in their path. An unseen force is behind the organized path and movement of these planets in the galaxy. This movement uses different aspects of palindrome concept to depict the organised space in music. First, the time signature expands and contracts in palindromic fashion, indicating an orderly manner in which the music orbits. Next, the intervals expands exponentially and also contracts in retrograde fashion. Analysis This movement uses palindrome concept for compositional technique. Rhythmically, it is palindromic in nature. The note values starts from a minim to dotted crotchet, crotchet, quaver, semiquavers. The time signature also expands and contract palandromically, starting from 2/4, 3/4 , 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 5/4, 4/4, 3/4, 2/4. The intervallic relationships are also in palindrome. Ascending from middle C the interval starts with Minor 2nd and expands exponentially to Major 2nd, Minor 3rd , Major 3rd, Perfect 4th , Augmented 4th , Perfect 5th to the tonic. Conversely, the intervals descend in similar fashion. French Horn begins with Low G (Concert C) and builds up this set of intervals reaching high B (Concert E). This melody is repeated by the Clarinet at the start of the new time signature of 3/ 4. Oboe enters at the next time signature of 4 /4. Flute at time signature of 5/4 and Bassoon at time signature of 6/4. The retrograde inversion of this motif is announced by the French Horn, this time starting on its high G (Concert C). Behind all this build up, the intervallic motif as shown above is played. At section A, this motif is announced without the rhythmic palindrome. The motif and its inversion builds up to a climax and re-asserts its presence with all the instruments playing at Bar before rehearsal mark B. The piece ends with the French horn performing the same motif at the beginning of this movement. Second Movement - Celestial Bodies Synopsis Celestial bodies or Astronomical objects refers to a single cohesive structure that is bound together usually by gravity or electromagnetism. Some examples includes asteroids, moons, planets and the stars. These objects or bodies may range from a single planet to star clusters, nebulae or entire galaxies and they have their position in space. This movement uses whole tone scale. The whole tone scale is used in this movement as it does not create sharp dissonances and the space between each interval is equal whichever way you stack the notes. The main melody, 8 bars long is repeated in canonic fashion. A countermelody is announced and also repeated by the ensemble in canonic fashion. Thereafter, both melodies will merge and this movement ends with a chord consisting of the whole tone scale starting on B. The music gradually unveils the each axis of the motion in which the astronomi.

Donuts, if you make a mistake!The initial incarnation of these studies were written for trombone quartet and we would play them in the Tennessee Tech Trombone Choir with the challenge that whomever made the first mistake had to buy donuts for the rest of the ensemble. Since then I have brought that version to several clinics and warm up sessions. One time before I got to explain the title, a fellow trombone professor said, Oh, I get it! Don’t step in the holes!I only wish I had thought of that myself... Since we have one of the best donut shops in TN here in Cookeville, treating the studio to sugar coated goodies was always my intent.As with those initial exercises, you can vary these as much as you’d like.· Choose a tempo.· Choose a dynamic.· Choose an articulation/style.One way I like to play these is to have one person be the model, playing the entire scale over and over while everyone else plays the fragmented versions. That helps everyone to keep on track and stay in time. Double or triple up the parts for ensemble cohesion with a larger group.Practice one key, gradually speeding it up to improve fluidity, or choose a variation and take it through all keys, playing version A, B, C, or D then skipping to play the same set in a new key.If you want an additional challenge, play them in different octaves or change the key. Play the F Major set in f minor (all forms), different modes, etc. Players really have to be on their toes to remember if they are playing melodic minor in the ascending or descending form! For jazz players, try swinging them in dorian or mixolydian modes.The variations are endless!If you are using these with transposing instruments, 1) is F Major in Concert Pitch, 2) is Bb Major in Concert pitch, and so on. When you reach a scale that is enharmonic for another key (Db/C#, Gb/F#, or Cb/B), they are presented in both keys for each instrument so Trumpets can play in Eb while the Flutes are playing in C# with similar examples for all keys.All Donut Etudes with the same volume number are compatible so you can play them in mixed quartets or large ensembles with one or more instruments/people on part 1 and a different instrument on part 2, etc. Since the quartets are all identical, conductors/coaches can use any of the scores to tell which part should be playing at what time. Once you have played a scale with one set of parts, everyone can rotate to a different part and play the same scales again!Enjoy!

This is the composer's first published piano work. It was judged by Tchaikovsky as follows...It's really a very nice thing, though really too short; not one thought is expressed through to the end and the form is extremely messy and devoid of wholeness ...  It was written when he was eighteen years old for Nadejda von Meck, Tchaikovsky's rich and generous patroness. Frank Dawes writes of the Danse bohémienne, there is perhaps a mild gipsiness that may have been picked up from the gipsy singers at the Moscow cabarets that Debussy is reputed to have frequented. In texture the piece has something of the salon style of Tchaikovsky, though very much simplified. This straightforward piece, in B minor and 2/4 time, isn't altogether without a few dashes of polka rhythm, but its only notable point of originality comes in the coda, where a tonic chord over a submediant pedal point highlights the interval of a major seventh, possible slightly Russian in character.The score was first published in 1932 by Schott (Maintence), then by Henle (1991, ed. Ernst-Günter Heinemann) and Durand (2000, ed. Roy Howat)It is arranged for standard wind quintet.

Wind Quintet (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Horn, Bassoon) This wind quintet version of Schubert's Erl-King is equally at home as a standard recital piece or used as a piece of ghostly music at Halloween. Erlkönig (The Erl-King) is a dramatic poem by the famous German writer and poet, Goethe, written in 1782. Although it has been set to music by many composers, the most well-known is the 1815 setting by Franz Schubert for voice and piano. The Erl-King is a challenging work for the singer because they must portray four distinct characters; narrator, father, son and the Erlkönig himself. Schubert's writing is different for each character in terms of pitch, harmony, rhythm, key (major and/or minor), and melodic shape. Singers usually alter the timbre of their voice to emphasise the different roles. In this arrangement for wind quintet, the arranger takes the timbre differences a step further by assigning the characters to different instruments in the quintet. The flute plays the role of narrator, the clarinet is the anxious son, the horn plays the reassuring ( but then worried) father, and the oboe plays the Erlkönig with his beautiful enticing melodies that try to lead the boy astray. The bassoon plays the rumbling and troubling bass line that helps set the mood.

Day Dreams is a collection of six solo piano miniatures the young Arthur Sullivan published in 1867. The pieces amply demonstrate a natural melodic gift that would reach full fruition in the enduring comic operas Sullivan wrote with W.S. Gilbert. This is a contrasting pair of Daydreams, numbers 2 and 6, arranged for woodwind quintet. The first Daydream, Robert and Clara, is an expressive cantabile aria that evokes the music of Robert Schumann. The oboe, clarinet, and horn sing the complete melody, but everyone gets at least a fragment of it. (This selection is great for weddings and church services as well as for the concert hall.) The second, À l'Hongroise, is the flashy finale of the Day Dreams collection. It's a spirited Hungarian-inspired dance with a chromatic melody in shifting tonality, with harmonic turns audacious enough to thrill even 21st century listeners, culminating in a wide-ranging arpeggio passage for the four woodwinds. Geometria is a serial composition*.Geometria, Latin for geometry, is an arrangement of sound shapes. Beginning with a parallelogram it moves to a square and then to a triangle. At the apex of the triangle the piece retrogrades back through the previous shapes; a mirror image in sound. The parallelogram is achieved by use of canon, the square by homophony and the triangle by staggered entrances. There are 5 instruments and 5 notes; F, F#, A,C# and Bb. F#,Bb,C# form a major triad, F#,A,C# form a minor triad, A,Bb,C# form trichord 3-3, Bb,C#,F form trichord 3-11 and A,C#,F form trichord 3-12. Therefore, 5 geometric shapes, 5 instruments, 5 notes, 5 plus harmonic possibilities and 5 players. *Serial Music - the use of a sequence of notes in a definite order as a thematic basis for a composition and a source from which the musical material is derived. Serialism was an attempt to escape tonal-centered compositions prior to the twentieth century. It began with Arnold Schoenberg's twelve tone-technique in the early 1900's, though some of his contemporaries such as Anton Webern, Alban Berg, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Pierre Boulez, Luigi Nono and Milton Babbit were also working to establish serialism as a form of post-tonal thinking. Other composers such as Bela Bartok, Luciano Berio, Benjamin Britten, John Cage, Aaron Copland, Olivier Messiean, Arvo Part, Dmitri Shostakovich and Igor Stravinsky used serialism only for some of their compositions.
