Published by Stephanie Daige (A0.796853). One of Mozart’s most beautiful melodies, the second movement of his iconic Piano Concerto No. 21, K.467, re-imagined for woodwind quintet. I have always thought this gorgeous melody would sound amazing as a woodwind quintet (my personal favorite ensemble), and I am glad I have finally gotten around to putting what I hear in my head on paper. The melody moves around between the different instruments as if they are having a conversation. This is a challenging and enjoyable arrangement, suitable for advanced students or professionals. The beauty and romance of this piece would make it great as wedding music. It would also be suitable for a chamber music concert, or in a school or church. I hope you will enjoy playing this piece as much as I have enjoyed arranging it!

This arrangement has the melody given to the bassoon, with help from the flute (not heard on the preview clip) and clarinet. There is a middle section where the ensemble members are given the chance to improvise - 1 or 2 people would play the bassline, and another person improvises over the bassline.There are lots of ways to make this piece fun for everyone. Have members of the ensemble take a solo - improvisation is a great skill to have, and it will help your concert program stand out. Published by Slide Ride (A0.784344). 1 Octave Scale Studies in 15+ keys for 4-part ensembles of like or mixed instruments If this is your first exposure to these scale studies, you are in for a treat! Donuts, if you make a mistake!The initial incarnation of these studies were written for trombone quartet and we would play them in the Tennessee Tech Trombone Choir with the challenge that whomever made the first mistake had to buy donuts for the rest of the ensemble. Since then I have brought that version to several clinics and warm up sessions. One time before I got to explain the title, a fellow trombone professor said, Oh, I get it! Don’t step in the holes!I only wish I had thought of that myself... Since we have one of the best donut shops in TN here in Cookeville, treating the studio to sugar coated goodies was always my intent.As with those initial exercises, you can vary these as much as you’d like.· Choose a tempo.· Choose a dynamic.· Choose an articulation/style.One way I like to play these is to have one person be the model, playing the entire scale over and over while everyone else plays the fragmented versions. That helps everyone to keep on track and stay in time. Double or triple up the parts for ensemble cohesion with a larger group.Practice one key, gradually speeding it up to improve fluidity, or choose a variation and take it through all keys, playing version A, B, C, or D then skipping to play the same set in a new key.If you want an additional challenge, play them in different octaves or change the key. Play the F Major set in f minor (all forms), different modes, etc. Players really have to be on their toes to remember if they are playing melodic minor in the ascending or descending form! For jazz players, try swinging them in dorian or mixolydian modes.The variations are endless!If you are using these with transposing instruments, 1) is F Major in Concert Pitch, 2) is Bb Major in Concert pitch, and so on. When you reach a scale that is enharmonic for another key (Db/C#, Gb/F#, or Cb/B), they are presented in both keys for each instrument so Trumpets can play in Eb while the Flutes are playing in C# with similar examples for all keys.All Donut Etudes with the same volume number are compatible so you can play them in mixed quartets or large ensembles with one or more instruments/people on part 1 and a different instrument on part 2, etc. Since the quartets are all identical, conductors/coaches can use any of the scores to tell which part should be playing at what time. Once you have played a scale with one set of parts, everyone can rotate to a different part and play the same scales again!Enjoy!

Gaudete, Coventry Carol, Es Ist Ein Ros Ensprungen and Personent Hodie all appear in their original form, followed by a snippet of Jingle Bells in the style of that carol. The snippets will sound familiar to the audience but they probably won't recognise them until the Jingle Bells appears at the end in all its glory. The scoring uses different combinations of instruments to vary the voicing, with tunes in all the parts. I wrote it originally for my youth brass group and it's always a winner. This arrangement is for soprano/alto sax, alto sax, 2 tenor saxes and baritone sax). It's easy to moderate, and suitable for any Christmas concert.

Sports et divertissements (Sports and Pastimes) is a cycle of 21 short piano pieces composed in 1914 by Erik Satie.The set consists of a prefatory chorale and 20 musical vignettes depicting various sports and leisure activities. First published in 1923, it has long been considered one of his finest achievements.Musically it represents the peak of Satie's humoristic piano suites (1912-1915), but stands apart from that series in its fusion of several different art forms. Sports originally appeared as a collector's album with illustrations by Charles Martin, accompanied by music, prose poetry and calligraphy. The latter three were provided by Satie in his exquisite handwritten scores, which were printed in facsimile. This is my arrangement for wind quintet of:8. I'd rather do something else, she pouts. Go fetch me a car. Blast, for woodwind quintet, is a reflection of my continuous exploration of both musical innovation and current realities. This piece follows my previous compositions, including Que sais-je?, Echoes of EÃkosi, Roots and Mostly Cloudy, each embodying my commitment to creating music that resonates with contemporary experiences while being rooted in a rich musical tradition. The title Blast emerged from a confluence of meanings and personal reflections. It alludes to the fundamental act of blowing into wind instruments, forming the essence of this quintet. This direct, physical engagement with the instruments creates a visceral connection between the musicians and their art, mirroring the intimate connection I strive to maintain with my creative process. However, the title also carries a deeper, more poignant significance. Living in Tel Aviv, I am constantly reminded of the harsh realities of conflict, where the sounds of blasts are a grim reminder of the ongoing strife in our region. As someone who deeply opposes war and champions human rights and peace, Blast is my artistic response to these troubling times. It is an expression of my longing for a world where the creative and life-affirming act of making music can overpower the destructive sounds of conflict.
