This unstable, suspenseful work details the the prophesied disastrous signs that will precede Christ's Second Coming through the use of asymetrical time signatures, whereas Christ's depicted descent from the heavens is the only part of the piece in 4/4, arguably the most comforting time signature. In fact, the title, Signs of the Times, is actually a play on words of the term time signatures, which is the main gimmick of the piece. The subtitle of the piece is (Matthew 24:29-30) which reads:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.This piece was originally performed by the Wind Quintet at Brigham Young University-Idaho during the Fall 2023 semester, and has since been polished.Estimated duration of piece: 5 min, 55 secondsEmail me for the sheet music for the individual parts, or let me know if you're going to perform this piece!ryansterry2000@gmail.com.

Plus a set of fifth parts for bassoon or bass clarinet can allow for the piece being a quintet. The first statement is in the clarinets where it leads into a full ensemble passing the lines amongst the parts. A delightful little segue leads to a modulation where the tune is in the lower lines alternated with flourishes in the flutes. This Alternating texture carries on for some time. Then the tempo picks up for a vibrant exclamation where the theme is once again bantered about where it makes one final boast and concludes.

Blast, for woodwind quintet, is a reflection of my continuous exploration of both musical innovation and current realities. This piece follows my previous compositions, including Que sais-je?, Echoes of EÃkosi, Roots and Mostly Cloudy, each embodying my commitment to creating music that resonates with contemporary experiences while being rooted in a rich musical tradition. The title Blast emerged from a confluence of meanings and personal reflections. It alludes to the fundamental act of blowing into wind instruments, forming the essence of this quintet. This direct, physical engagement with the instruments creates a visceral connection between the musicians and their art, mirroring the intimate connection I strive to maintain with my creative process. However, the title also carries a deeper, more poignant significance. Living in Tel Aviv, I am constantly reminded of the harsh realities of conflict, where the sounds of blasts are a grim reminder of the ongoing strife in our region. As someone who deeply opposes war and champions human rights and peace, Blast is my artistic response to these troubling times. It is an expression of my longing for a world where the creative and life-affirming act of making music can overpower the destructive sounds of conflict.

Recordare (from Requiem (K. 626) - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart/Franz Xaver Sussmayr - Woodwind Quintet - Advanced/Intermediate - . Hauntingly beautiful is how the Recordare from Mozart's Requiem is often described. Originally written for an orchestra and four vocal soloists, it has now been transcribed by Regis Bookshar for a Woodwind Quintet, consisting of 1 Flute, 1 Oboe, 1 Bb Clarinet, 1 French Horn and 1 Bassoon, and would be a wonderful addition to any music library. This arrangement will provide students with the opportunity to practice breath control because of its long, sustained phrases, and also to give them the chance to play this beautiful composition, something which they may not have had the opportunity to do, otherwise. This selection could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services and is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this arrangement. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (25 pages). The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble has performed the Trumpet Quintet version of the Recordare for funerals, providing beautiful, introspective music for the occasion. There is some controversy surrounding the circumstances of the Requiem's composition because Mozart died before he could complete it. Count Franz von Walsegg had commissioned a Requiem Mass but Mozart had received only half of the payment in advance. So, upon his death on December 5th, 1791, his widow, Constanze, wished to have the work completed secretly by someone else and submit it to the count as having been completed by Mozart to collect the final payment. Joseph von Eybler was one of the first composers to be asked to complete the score and had worked on a number of movements but felt unable to complete the remainder and gave the manuscript back to Constanze Mozart. The task was then given to another composer, Franz Xaver Sussmayr. Sussmayr borrowed some of Eybler's work in making his completion, added his own orchestration to other movements and added several new movements which a Requiem Mass would normally comprise. He then added a final section by adapting the opening two movements which Mozart had written to the different words which finish the Requiem Mass, which according to both Sussmayr and Mozart's wife, was done according to Mozart's directions. The completed score, initially by Mozart but largely finished by Sussmayr, was then dispatched to Count Walsegg complete with a counterfeited signature of Mozart dated 1792. Despite the controversy over how much of the music is actually Mozart's, the commonly performed Sussmayr version has become widely accepted by the public, and is considered one of Mozart's finest compositions. The Recordare is considered by many people to be one of the most beautiful compositions in Mozart's entire catalogue. Regis Bookshar, a trumpet player, has performed the Requiem in concert with a full orchestra, soloists and a chorus and felt that other musicians should have the opportunity to play the hauntingly beautiful Recordare as well. So, in addition to this arrangement for a Woodwind Quintet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this beautiful composition. There are Quintets, Sextets, Septets and Octets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may fine something else which may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. Published by Luis Anjos Teixeira (A0.889416). 2018 Chamber Music Contest EntryAs a violin player this was always one of my beloved pieces and it has accompanied all my Life. The G minor Fuga is the most compact of the three fugues in the volume for violin solo (and note that in this versions they are not in fact fugues in the proper sense of the word, but rather a kind of fugue/Baroque-concerto hybrid form). It was also transcribed for lute by Bach at some later time (BWV 1000). My arrangement is based on a version of this piece for the organ made by Bach himself - BWV 539. I follow very intimately the organ version, not adding or letting out any of the original notes. As an arrangement I transposed it to H-Minor and some of the notes where made through the interpretation symbols more or less shorter in order to accentuate the polyphonic, rhythmic and natural dynamic of the piece. I also added some legatos. Crescendos, or fortes and similar indications are left out like in the original, waiting for your own interpretation. In the musical consciousness of Bach the polyphony and dialog between the voices were a projection of an ideal world for the Human Society and this should be in the first line of focus and in the mind of all the members in the group. The power of this piece comes from within its structure and relays in its polyphonic dimension. Allow yourself to focus on the Art of enhancing the beauty of this dialog, the bless of communicating with each other. Bach is Love - Love each another I really advise all performers to have a very humble and sensitive approach in the interpretation of this piece towards loudness because you will have to be listening to each other very carefully while performing. Linear time, sound and silence are the basic of dynamic expression. Dynamic will than happen naturally and without much effort when bringing the „Art of playing the silence and the Art of the „duration of the notes to a state of consciousness within the whole piece itself. Often in the old music notation the duration of the notes is longer written in the score then it should be played. Understandable because It takes a lot more time for a composer to write in detail the sound and the silence than to write only the raw length of the notes! Back in those times the performing artists were trained very well to read their raw parts and became very skilled in making their own thing out of the scores so the composers did not have to worry with so much detail like nowadays. In some scores we even find words like:-„please play this note simply as written and without embellishments! On the original score of the Fuga a sixth voice joins the group between bars sixty and sixty one and this voice can be heard very well in the sound file. This „Ghost voice is noted on the clarinet part as an extended possibility. To play it with just one clarinet is absolutely possible as well as arbitrary. Do at will some experiments and let than the group decide. In case of doubt play simply the bottom voice or let yourself get inspired with the sound file. One of my suggestions would be also to play the bottom line as long as the other one is silent, than jump to the upper voice as it comes in and go back again to your usual voice while the other voice „takes a break. This work brought me a new insight into the consciousness and the universal nature of Bach`s music. It requires high skilled and experienced artists to execute. The score was written on Finale. However, this was an unhappymarriage, short-lived, with numerous conflicts and separations. Jeanie With The Light Brown Hair, was written asperhaps an attempt to win his wife back. To add to his problems, Foster also ran into deep financial difficulties.Jeanie With the Light Brown Hair was virtually unknown during its time. When it was first published, the royaltieson the ten thousand copies sold, earned just $200 for Stephen Foster. To make ends meet, he had to sell the rights toJeanie, as well as other songs. After his death, the rights to Jeanie With The Light Brown Hair reverted back to hiswife and daughter.It would indeed be a pleasant surprise to Stephen Foster, if he only knew what a wide range of artists have adaptedthis song to different genres. Among solo instrumentalists, Jascha Heifitz, and William Primrose have arranged itfor solo violin and viola. The big bands of Gene Krupa, and Glen Miller have recorded it. The great R & B artist,Sam Cooke used it, as well as opera stars, Marilyn Horne and John McCormick, who added it to their concertrepertoire.The song's frequent airplay in the 1940's, led Spike Jones to create a parody, called, I Dream of Jeanie with theLight Blue Jeans. Les Brown in 1941, created a big band song, Joltin' Joe DiMaggio with the line.....We Dream ofJoey With the Light Brown Bat. Even Bugs Bunny got into the act. The 1960 short, From Hare To Heir, featuresBugs singing, I dream of Jeanie, she's a light brown hareMy arrangement, for woodwind quintet is written to capture a lyric, singing style, which I think Foster had in mind.

This work was long reputed to be the work of Joseph Haydn, but later scholarship suggested that it was actually written by Leopold Mozart. Its authorship is still disputed, however, and other composers have been proposed as the symphony's true author, including Joseph Haydn's younger brother Michael Haydn, who purportedly contributed movements to the work.Recent research on a newly found manuscript suggests the Austrian Benedictine monk Edmund Angerer (1740–1794) to be the author. If Angerer's manuscript (from 1765, entitled Berchtolds-Gaden Musick) is the original, the Toy Symphony was originally written not in G but rather in C. These findings, however, are disputed among scholars. There is reason to believe that the true composer will likely never be known, in whole or in part, given its confused origins and the paucity of related manuscript sources.Even without a name attached to it, the piece has become a mainstay for children's shows and Christmastime concerts. Each of its three movements features the sounds of actual toys and instruments that sound like they came straight from Geppetto's workshop. The piece calls for a toy trumpet, ratchet, nightingale, cuckoo, drum, and triangle. ( A quail makes it’s only appearance in the 2nd movement.Noisemakers rattle throughout the first of its three movements. The cuckoo and trumpet  call out mischievously during the minuetto of the second movement , and a quail joins the nightingale in the trio. In the short third mvt which is played 3 times, they all play again, each repeat faster than the previous one.The presence of the toy instruments make this a fun piece for children to play, especially when there are also some toys waiting under the tree.My arrangement is based on the Kinder-Symphonie attributed to Leopold Mozart. It is scored in C.It is in 3 mvts and is arranged for wind quintet, and toy percussion.It can be peformed as a stand alone  wind quintet without percussion as all of the important cues (the trumpet and cuckoo) are written in to the instrumnt parts.i have distributed the original strings around the woodwind, and composed an original classical horn part.Sometimes known as The Children’s SymphonyAlso available as a wind dectet/bass arrangement.

This arrangement adapted for woodwind quintet was written keeping the characteristics of the original work, in order to be performed by young music students who want to enter the symphonic music. Besides, it can also be used by professional musicians, for recitals, repertoire, academic presentations and didactic material. As much as it is a funeral march, it is well suited for any musical performance occasion. The transcription is faithful to the structure, with only one change of key, so that it is comfortable for all the instruments in the formation, as well as for use in ensemble practice between musicians of different traditions. Ludwig van Beethoven began concentrated work on his Symphony No. 7 in A major Op. 92 in 1811, it was completed in 1812, and was dedicated to Count Moritz von Fries, and premiered in Vienna on December 8, 1813. It is considered a remarkable example of the more ebullient side of Beethoven's compositional personality and evidence that even after the onset of deafness, he still found cause for musical optimism. The second movement Allegretto is a funeral march in everything but name. Often several contrasting melodic ideas are made to coexist, as if Beethoven were imagining several processions converging on the cemetery at the same time. As he was working on this symphony during the years of the Napoleonic Wars, this experience was probably within his experience. It was also used as the soundtrack to the film Knowing, by director Alex Proyas and starring Nicolas Cage, where it is used in the final scene of the film. Beethoven called Symphony No. 7 his most excellent symphony, and a music critic of the time reported, this symphony is the most melodically rich and the most pleasing and comprehensible of all Beethoven's symphonies..
