His cycle of 24 Preludes, Op. 28, covers all major and minor keys.In addition, Chopin wrote three other preludes: a prelude in C♯ minor, Op. 45; a piece in A♭ major from 1834; and an unfinished piece in E♭ minor. These are sometimes referred to as Nos. 25, 26, and 27, respectively.This is my arramgement of No.15. it is the longest and one of the best known of the twenty-four. The key signature switches between D♭ major and C♯ minorIt is known as the Raindrop Prelude because an A♭/G♯ sounds throughout.Arranged by me for wind quintetThe melody is taken mainly by the oboe, and the repeating A♭/G♯ is shared between the basoon and horn.Enjoy!Check out my Chopin arrangements of other Preludes and of Nocturne No.2.

Arrangement by Daniel Kaplan for woodwind quintet of Mozart's Prelude and Fugue No. 3 from his Six Preludes and Fugues for String Trio, K.404a. This is an original prelude by Mozart plus his arrangement (in F major) of the Fugue in F# major by J.S. Bach, BWV 882 (from Book 2 of the Well Tempered Clavier). Mozart wrote this to play at the Sunday musicales of Baron van Swieten in Vienna, who insisted that all participants perform music of Bach or Handel. Kaplan is engaged in a project to make classics from other genres available to woodwind players and has also arranged several other great works for this ensemble. The woodwind quintet is especially well suited for contrapuntal music since the distinctive tone colors of the wind instruments bring out the contrapuntal lines and make them clearer to the listener.Note that all six preludes and all six fugues from this work are also available as a single purchase on this website. This monumental fugue employs a dramatic subject that later appears in inversion, leading to some very striking counterpoint; by the end, the emotional impact is overwhelming. Kaplan is engaged in a project to make classics from other genres available to woodwind players and has arranged several other great works for this ensemble, including many of his favorites from The Well Tempered Clavier (also avaiable on this website). The woodwind quintet is especially well suited for contrapuntal music since the distinctive tone colors of the wind instruments bring out the contrapuntal lines and make them clearer to the listener.
