An outstanding option for any wind quintet's popular music collection this arrangement of When The Party's Over features densely packed harmonies, abd subtle nuances of dynamics and texture. Scored for wind quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon) the arrangmenet opens with a chorale like introduction of the songs main chord progression. The melody is introduced one voice at a time over long sustained notes only joining together in a tutti at the first chorus. The texture and intensity expands in the second verse before revisitng the gently stated tutti of the chorus once again. The bridge is led by the horn and punctuated by the upper voices of the woodwinds before passing off to a brief solo flute passage setting up the final chorus. The song closes just as it begun with a soft chorale of the songs opening chord progression. Score and parts included (17 pages).

Eternal Father, Strong to Save is a hymn traditionally associated with seafarers, particularly in the maritime armed services. Written in 1860, its author William Whiting was inspired by the dangers of the sea described in Psalm 107. John B. Dykes, an Anglican clergyman, composed the tune Melita to accompany the text in 1861. This version is for standard woodwind quintet, and includes an optional bass clarinet part for ensembles with no bassoon. The historical context of Bach's BWV 812 French Suite No. 1 is rooted in its composition during a period of prolific creativity in Bach's life, around 1722-1725. These suites, including the French Suite No. 1, were crafted as part of a collection intended for teaching purposes within Bach's private circle, particularly to enhance the keyboard skills of his second wife, Anna Magdalena. The French Suites were written when Bach was newly married to Anna Magdalena, following the passing of his first wife, Maria Barbara. These suites were considered a wedding gift for Anna Magdalena. They were part of Bach's efforts to provide musical education to his wife and children from previous marriages. The suites blend French and German styles, featuring a series of dances in the same key, such as allemande, courante, sarabande, minuets, and gigue. Despite being labeled as French suites, Bach did not give them this title himself. The French Suites are known for their moderate difficulty level compared to Bach's other keyboard works, such as the English Suites.

This piece presents itself with a sense of joy throughout with the introduction itself in a motivic manner setting the tone. The melody is fragmented, passing the tune around to the various voices. The middle section mirrors the introduction in texture and again passes melodic material around the different voices. The final section is more subdued until it starts stacking the motifically structured parts until it ascends to a dramatic conclusion.

Plus a set of fifth parts for bassoon or bass clarinet can allow for the piece being a quintet. The first statement is in the clarinets where it leads into a full ensemble passing the lines amongst the parts. A delightful little segue leads to a modulation where the tune is in the lower lines alternated with flourishes in the flutes. This Alternating texture carries on for some time. Then the tempo picks up for a vibrant exclamation where the theme is once again bantered about where it makes one final boast and concludes.

Adagio for Winds focuses on constant tension and release, passing between instruments through the use of rising and descending melodic motifs.The English Horn can be substituted for the French Horn and vice versa.
