RayThompsonMusic #680708. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1076569). Arranged standard wind quintet It is in the musical form ABACA. Theme in Bb major, and two other sections in G minor and Bb mnor. The end of each minor section is noted Maggiore D.C. Rosamunde, Fürstin von Zypern (Rosamunde, Princess of Cyprus) is a play by Helmina von Chézy, which is primarily remembered for the incidental music which Franz Schubert composed for it. Music and play premiered in Vienna's Theater an der Wien on 20 December 1823 There are 10 pieces of incidental music, this is no 5. Entr'acte No. 3 in Bâ™ major (Andantino) is one of the two best-known pieces in the score. The main theme was used again in the Impromptu in Bâ™, Op. 142 (D 935), No. 3. Schubert used an almost identical theme in the second movement of his String Quartet in A minor, D 804. Lewis (A0.975917). DON'T FEAR PRE-BACH MUSIC! The idea of 'Progress' in art is fallacious (within reason). Scheidt- Variations on Wehe, Windgen, wehe (Blow Little Winds, Blow) [1624, Halle] This gem of mid-Baroque German meister Sam Scheidt, who (for reference) was 23 yrs. younger than Shakespeare and 98 yrs. than Bach, sounds not-a-bit strange to today's ears. Donald J. (no, not him) Grout says that John Dowland's songs of 1590's sound entirely modern. Well, they do! STING recorded them, if that means anything to you. So then, what have composers been up to for the last 430 years?! I jest, but this piece is terrific. Be advised, the 'runs' are modal, in that the 7th degree is usually NOT just a semitone under the 8th/1st, but a whole tone. A bit like bagpipe music, in our day.

This selection, Johann Pachelbel's celebrated Canon, is perhaps the most famous canon ever written and has been one of my favorite compositions to arrange. A canon is a polyphonic device in which several voices play the same music, entering in sequence. Pachelbel's Canon, was originally written in the key of D Major and was scored for three violins arranged in canon, accompanied by a basso continuo which repeats the same harmonic progression throughout the entire piece. The common musical term for this is ostinato or ground bass. Regis Bookshar has now arranged this music for a Woodwind Quintet consisting of 1 Flute, 1 Oboe, 1 Clarinet, 1 French Horn and 1 Bassoon. The Flute, Oboe and Clarinet play the melody in canon while the ostinato accompaniment is played by the French Horn and the Bassoon. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students but could also be performed by professional performers. It is perfect for concerts and church services, especially for Weddings, but could be performed for any occasion. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (27 pages). This version is written in the key of Bb Major, to make it a little easier for some younger performers, but another version is also available in the key of D Major if you would prefer. Other versions of Pachelbel's Canon have also been arranged by Regis Bookshar and are available for a wide variety of instrumental Quintets and Octets, in both the keys of D Major and Bb Major. I think that String players would probably prefer to play the versions in the key of D Major while the Brass and Woodwind musicians might prefer to play the Bb Major versions. I hope you take the time to compare the different versions to find the right version for you. To help you decide which version, or versions, you may want to choose, I have included several musical samples for you to listen to and to hear what these arrangements may sound like and so that you may compare the various arrangements. Also, just to let you know, the Octets written in the key of Bb Major have full-length recordings while the Octets in D Major and all Quintets have only the first 25 measures, or so, available to hear. Please feel free to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar which are also available. There are quite a few other arrangements in a variety of styles and I'm certain you will find something else which might interest you as well. Please keep checking because I plan to continue to add new arrangements as often as I can. I'm certain that this exciting arrangement of Pachelbel's Canon will be a challenge to some performers but will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

Because of its caracter, It can work perfectly as an introduction piece or for a little surprise encore in the end of a concert. It is also very easy to play, very appropriate for music students and beginners. And of course righten by no other than Mozart it is the perfect piece for great artists and performers. The original score was written for the pianoforte. I did an arrangement for woodwind quintet and made an extent use of interpretation symbols like fortes and pianos, crescendos etc., wish where total absent in the original score. I also had to shorten the length of some notes in order to facilitate the interpretation of the piece on woodwind instruments. Otherwise all the original notes are left unchanged. The score was written on Finale. The sound file, was performed with samplers from Garritan and conceived as an audio support for the presentation of the score. This is the first time that this version is published in Sheet Music Plus or anywhere else. Thanks to Claudia Eppelt for the all the Love the wonderful Art cover and design. I Had Much Grief, Cantata BWV 21. „Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis, BWV 21. „Sinfonia This work marks a transition between motet style on biblical and hymn text to operatic recitatives and arias on contemporary poetry. Bach catalogued the work as „e per ogni tempo „and for all times, indicating that due to its general theme, the cantata is suited for any occasion. With its distinctive gesture of descent and the plaintive lines of the oboe and violin, the Sinfonia, held in dark minor, sets a tone of pain that is characteristic of the cantata. With its emotional depth and formal wealth, the cantata I had much grief is almost a solitaire in Bach's church music. Performed in Weimar in 1714 and later rearranged several times, it is also suitable as a compositional business card due to its high standards and its shape, which is representative of various types of sentences, and could therefore be related to Bach's application. Bach performed the cantata on 17 June 1714, as his fourth work in a series of monthly cantatas for the Weimar court which came with his promotion to concert master. The Work was transposed to D minor during the Köthen years, and used in November 1720 for a performance in Hamburg to apply for the position as organist at St. Jacobi. As Thomaskantor in Leipzig, Bach performed the cantata again on his third Sunday in office on 13 June 1723. For this performance, he also changed the instrumentation, adding „for example four trombones to double the voices in the fifth stanza of the hymn. This version was used in several revivals during Bach's lifetime and is mostly performed today. From the plaintive sinfonia to the arias and duets touching in their pain and charm to the speaking rhythmic psalm and chorus choirs, a development arc spans that transforms suffering and grief into consolation and trust and culminates in an apotheosis reminiscent of Handel of the victorious lamb, Hardly ever has Bach put the process of a relentless self-questioning and spiritual healing as convincingly as here. This arrangement of the sinfonia is intended for modern instruments. The original score was translated into modern music literature standards thus simplifying the approach and helping to understand the legacy of baroque music in our modern times. A few embellishments and interpretation symbols where added thus mostly shortening the length of some notes. Some „fortes and „pianos are also included. The arrangement is absolutely faithful to Bach`s versions, not adding or omitting any notes from the original sources. P.S.- The score was written on Finale. The cantata „Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit, BWV 106- „God`s Time Is The Very Best Time, ranks among Bach's most important works. It is a work of genius such as even great masters seldom achieve. The Actus tragicus belongs to the great musical literature of the world. Although Bach's manuscript is lost, the work is agreed to be one of the earliest Bach cantatas, probably composed during the year he spent in Mühlhausen 1707/1708 as organist of the Divi Blasil church, at the age of 22. Various funerals known to have taken place at this time have been proposed as the occasion for the composition, for example that of his uncle Tobias Lämmerhirt from his mother's family, who died inErfurt on 10 August 1707, and that of Adolph Strecker, a former mayor of Mühlhausen, whose funeral was 16 September 1708. The earliest surviving manuscript, in the hand of Christian Friedrich Penzel, was copied in 1768 after Bach's death. It introduced the title Actus tragicus. The cantata was published in 1876 as part of the first complete edition of Bach's works: the Bach-Gesellschaft-Ausgabe, edited by Wilhelm Rust. The text consists of different Bible passages from the Old and New Testament, as well as individual verses of hymns by Martin Lither and Adam Reusner, which all together refer to finiteness, preparation for death and dying. The Arrangement is relatively easy to perform, also appropriate for beginners. It is an ideal piece for advanced performers, this music touches deep into the Soul. The piece was arranged for modern instruments, I introduced some embellishments and interpretation symbols thus shortening the length of some notes, but no notes where otherwise changed or omitted in this arrangement. Also the original placement of the voices is totally respected, the structure of the piece was simply left as it was composed in its original form. Bach scored the instrumental parts for a small ensemble of Baroque instruments two recorders, two violas da gamba and continuo. I propose an interpretation for a modern woodwind quintet in this arrangement. You should feel Free to apply in this piece the Art and technic that expresses entirely your individual skills, Your taste and Soul. Have fun! Published by Luis Anjos Teixeira (A0.889416). 2018 Chamber Music Contest EntryAs a violin player this was always one of my beloved pieces and it has accompanied all my Life. The G minor Fuga is the most compact of the three fugues in the volume for violin solo (and note that in this versions they are not in fact fugues in the proper sense of the word, but rather a kind of fugue/Baroque-concerto hybrid form). It was also transcribed for lute by Bach at some later time (BWV 1000). My arrangement is based on a version of this piece for the organ made by Bach himself - BWV 539. I follow very intimately the organ version, not adding or letting out any of the original notes. As an arrangement I transposed it to H-Minor and some of the notes where made through the interpretation symbols more or less shorter in order to accentuate the polyphonic, rhythmic and natural dynamic of the piece. I also added some legatos. Crescendos, or fortes and similar indications are left out like in the original, waiting for your own interpretation. In the musical consciousness of Bach the polyphony and dialog between the voices were a projection of an ideal world for the Human Society and this should be in the first line of focus and in the mind of all the members in the group. The power of this piece comes from within its structure and relays in its polyphonic dimension. Allow yourself to focus on the Art of enhancing the beauty of this dialog, the bless of communicating with each other. Bach is Love - Love each another I really advise all performers to have a very humble and sensitive approach in the interpretation of this piece towards loudness because you will have to be listening to each other very carefully while performing. Linear time, sound and silence are the basic of dynamic expression. Dynamic will than happen naturally and without much effort when bringing the „Art of playing the silence and the Art of the „duration of the notes to a state of consciousness within the whole piece itself. Often in the old music notation the duration of the notes is longer written in the score then it should be played. Understandable because It takes a lot more time for a composer to write in detail the sound and the silence than to write only the raw length of the notes! Back in those times the performing artists were trained very well to read their raw parts and became very skilled in making their own thing out of the scores so the composers did not have to worry with so much detail like nowadays. In some scores we even find words like:-„please play this note simply as written and without embellishments! On the original score of the Fuga a sixth voice joins the group between bars sixty and sixty one and this voice can be heard very well in the sound file. This „Ghost voice is noted on the clarinet part as an extended possibility. To play it with just one clarinet is absolutely possible as well as arbitrary. Do at will some experiments and let than the group decide. In case of doubt play simply the bottom voice or let yourself get inspired with the sound file. One of my suggestions would be also to play the bottom line as long as the other one is silent, than jump to the upper voice as it comes in and go back again to your usual voice while the other voice „takes a break. This work brought me a new insight into the consciousness and the universal nature of Bach`s music. It requires high skilled and experienced artists to execute. The score was written on Finale. I have spread the voices around, so there is NOT a constant tutti of all 5 players The Requiem in D minor, K. 626, is a requiem mass by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791). Mozart composed part of the Requiem in Vienna in late 1791, but it was unfinished at his death on 5 December the same year. A completed version dated 1792 by Franz Xaver Süssmayr was delivered to Count Franz von Walsegg, who commissioned the piece for a requiem service on 14 February 1792 to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of his wife Anna at the age of 20 on 14 February 1791. This is no 4 of the Sequenz Recordare At 130 measures, the Recordare (Remember) is the work's longest movement, as well as the first in triple meter the movement is a setting of no fewer than seven stanzas of the Dies irae. The form of this piece is somewhat similar to sonata form, with an exposition around two themes (mm. 1–37), a development of two themes (mm. 38–92) and a recapitulation (mm. 93–98). It suits the wind quintet. Section III of the requiem is titled “Sequenz†(sequentia or sequence). It is made up of the following pieces I have arrangements of all of them, for varying types of ensemble * Dies irae * Tuba mirum * Rex tremendae * Recordare * Confutatis * Lacrymosa. Always one to challenge convention, he invented the word 'Gnossienne' especially for theses pieces - it has no other meaning. He also decided to notate the pieces without key signatures, time signatures or even bar lines and I have decided to do the same here in this arrangement.The piece gradually unfolds in a kind of trance-like hypnotic ambiance; this arrangement features the melody in all parts, starting unusually in the bass.

Each piece is the characteristic of a different month of the year in Russia.
