An outstanding option for any wind quintet's popular music collection this arrangement of When The Party's Over features densely packed harmonies, abd subtle nuances of dynamics and texture. Scored for wind quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon) the arrangmenet opens with a chorale like introduction of the songs main chord progression. The melody is introduced one voice at a time over long sustained notes only joining together in a tutti at the first chorus. The texture and intensity expands in the second verse before revisitng the gently stated tutti of the chorus once again. The bridge is led by the horn and punctuated by the upper voices of the woodwinds before passing off to a brief solo flute passage setting up the final chorus. The song closes just as it begun with a soft chorale of the songs opening chord progression. Score and parts included (17 pages).

H.M.S. Pinafore; or, The Lass That Loved a Sailor is a comic opera in two acts, with music by Arthur Sullivan and a libretto by W. S. Gilbert. It opened at the Opera Comique in London, on 25 May 1878 and ran for 571 performances, which was the second-longest run of any musical theatre piece up to that time. H.M.S. Pinafore was Gilbert and Sullivan's fourth operatic collaboration and their first international sensation.

Sports et divertissements (Sports and Pastimes) is a cycle of 21 short piano pieces composed in 1914 by Erik Satie.The set consists of a prefatory chorale and 20 musical vignettes depicting various sports and leisure activities. First published in 1923, it has long been considered one of his finest achievements.Musically it represents the peak of Satie's humoristic piano suites (1912-1915), but stands apart from that series in its fusion of several different art forms. Sports originally appeared as a collector's album with illustrations by Charles Martin, accompanied by music, prose poetry and calligraphy. The latter three were provided by Satie in his exquisite handwritten scores, which were printed in facsimile. This is my arrangement for wind quintet of:8. Le Yachting (Yachting) - Modéré (Moderately.) (In half-notes, bass octaves). Legato. Satie's prose:Quel temps !Le vent souffle comme un phoque.Le yacht danse.Il a l'air d'un petit fou.La mer est démontée.Pourvu qu'elle ne se brise pas sur un rocher.Personne ne peut la remonter.Je ne veux pas rester ici, dit la jolie passagère.Ce n'est pas un endroit amusant.J'aime mieux autre chose.Allez me chercher une voiture.A stern ostinato in the lower reaches of the piano summons up a wind-blown sea as it tosses about members of a yachting party.A pretty lady passenger is not amused by the rough weather. I'd rather do something else, she pouts. Go fetch me a car. Published by Stephanie Daige (A0.796886). This Fantasia in D Minor, K. 397, really shows off Mozart's dramatic side. My arrangement of this Fantasy, one of Mozart's most popular piano pieces, gives each instrument the opportunity to play a different character. Fantasia in D Minor opens with somber arpeggios in the bassoon, and then goes to a pleading melody that goes back and forth between the flute and the oboe. The tension builds up until the clarinet breaks out into a wild cadenza. The pleading melodies and wild cadenzas go back and forth a few more times building tension until the final segment, which resolves with a bright, cheerful song-like melody in the horn. Duration is approximately 6 minutes.I had a great time arranging this piece, and I hope you will enjoy playing it. It presents some unique challenges and expressive opportunities, and it is a real crowd-pleaser.

Instrumentation: 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets in Bb, 2 horns in F, 2 bassoons Program note.Nancy Braithwaite, for whom I have written many works - all of them featuring her instrument the clarinet - told me that she was a member of a wind group based on Richard Strauss’ Serenade in E-flat Major, opus 7, for thirteen instruments: two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets, four horns, two bassoons, and contrabassoon. I said to Nancy, I should write a piece for that group. She said that was a good idea. I soon discovered that the name of the group is La Rondine, or the swallow. I then remembered that Puccini wrote an opera called La Rondine. So I told Nancy that I might do a little research on the Puccini opera and come up with a piece inspired by thematic snippets I found in the opera. Well, I did not find Puccini’s music that conducive to a transformation into TOL music. Around the same time, I stumbled upon a 27-CD box set of nine operas by the Venetian composer Antonio Vivaldi. As I was listening to these obscure operas by Vivaldi it dawned on me that I was very attracted to what I was hearing, and it was seeping into my musical thinking in the most natural way imaginable. Very quickly I was hearing things for this work I planned to write for Nancy’s group, and the music just moved along quite smoothly from one movement into another. At the same time I began reading about Vivaldi and his life as a priest, violinist, teacher, impresario, and composer in the city of Venice and other cities nearby. What a fascinating life he led!!! I also discovered in my reading that the city of Venice at that time was called La Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia. So, instead of a serenade for ten instruments, my work for two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets, two horns and two bassoons, is called La Serenissima as an homage to Antonio Vivaldi and that glorious city of Venice. This pleasant and lively composition is divided into five parts, a small rondo form. The first theme is in Zi-pentatonic mode, mainly play by flute. The main theme is later transposed a fifth higher and orchestrated between the oboe, clarinet and bassoon parts. The second theme is in a slower, more sentimental mood. It builds up as a contrast section to the first theme. French horn plays the traditional Wedding Song of the Puyuma tribe and dominates in this section. In the third part of this composition, the melodic line returns to the first theme, transformed to D-flat Zi-pentatonic mode. The oboe plays the main theme and later the clarinet plays the variations of this melodic line. The fourth section brings out the third theme of this piece: a traditional Atayal tribe’s Jew Harp Song melody that plays by the bassoon. This passionate, fast-tempo dancing theme is then composed into several variations and plays by oboe and clarinet. In the last section of the composition, the first theme returns again. Building up and reaches the climax then leads to the final of the piece. Professor Ma selected two aboriginal tribal songs, related to weddings and love, and quoted them in this piece and presented as a wedding gift for his beloved son. This father-son relationship and love, and also this unique composition, made that wedding ceremony a memorable event for the guests. This piece was premiered in 2002 at The Landis Taipei Hotel by Fu-Ming Huang (Flute), Chien-Chih Hung (Oboe), Jen-Hwa Huang (Clarinet), Yi-Fen Kuo (Bassoon) and Yih-Duen Huang (Horn).

This is a great teaching piece for an advancing Woodwind Quintet. It does have some tricky key signatures for all of the parts but would make a great supplement to a summer music camp or music program looking to challenge a young ensemble.

This is the composer's first published piano work. It was judged by Tchaikovsky as follows...It's really a very nice thing, though really too short; not one thought is expressed through to the end and the form is extremely messy and devoid of wholeness ...  It was written when he was eighteen years old for Nadejda von Meck, Tchaikovsky's rich and generous patroness. Frank Dawes writes of the Danse bohémienne, there is perhaps a mild gipsiness that may have been picked up from the gipsy singers at the Moscow cabarets that Debussy is reputed to have frequented. In texture the piece has something of the salon style of Tchaikovsky, though very much simplified. This straightforward piece, in B minor and 2/4 time, isn't altogether without a few dashes of polka rhythm, but its only notable point of originality comes in the coda, where a tonic chord over a submediant pedal point highlights the interval of a major seventh, possible slightly Russian in character.The score was first published in 1932 by Schott (Maintence), then by Henle (1991, ed. Pentatonix is the fourth studio album by American a cappella group Pentatonix, which was released on October 16, 2015. The release date was announced on Twitter by a series of pictures featuring the five band members released over a five-day-span, with one band member added to the picture each day, culminating in the date being revealed on August 28. It is the group's seventh release overall in their discography. This is the first release of the band to feature predominantly original material. Pentatonix also marks the first time band members receive individual songwriting credits for the majority of the tracks. Contre-Tanze (Country Dance) No.2 (adapted Seiss)Beethoven wrote 12 Country Dances WoO14 for orchestra .They are all quite short: some have trios.They are probably better known as a set of 3 piano pieces called Contre-Tanzes which are noted frei bearbeitet von Isidor Wilhelm Seiss (freely adapted by Isidor Wilhelm Seiss) Isidor Seiss (23 December 1840 – 25 September 1905) was a German composer, conductor, pianist, piano pedagogue and philanthropist.They have a romantic feel to them.Each one of Seiss's 3 country dances are made up of extracts from 3 of Beethoven's. In some cases he uses only the trio, other times he uses the first 8 bars. Extracts are also transposed when needed to fit the home key of the piece. My arrangement is based on the musical layout of Seiss's Dance Number 2 which utilises extracts of Beethoven's as follows: The trio from No.5, the Trio from No 6 and part of No.12.Seiss freely adapts Beethoven's melodies and chordal structure. I have used Beethoven's original orchestration as a guide to give a more authentic classical sound.The horn part is for a natural horn in Eb.I have ignored the coda from Seiss's arrangement.Hope you enjoy them.
