In two movements. A great recital piece to demonstrate nuances of the woodwind quintet. Sonata Op. 49 No. 2 Arranged from Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 20, this is a simple but interesting work in two movements showing the composers sense of humor. The first movement Allegro ma non troppo and the second movement Tempo di Menuetto are both in the key of G. Both Sonatas 19 and 20 (op. 49, No. 1 & 2) are named Easy Sonatas because they are technically easier than the usual Beethoven Sonatas. This makes them very popular among students and teachers alike. Beethoven Background Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 –1827) was certainly a German pianist. Above all, he was probably one of the greatest composers in history. As a result, he is a pivotal character in the progress between the Classical and Romantic periods. He is certainly one of the most famous and hence important of all composers. Seems like his most familiar and noteworthy works include symphonies 1-9; piano concertos 1-5; and furthermore, the violin concerto. Also, certainly of extreme importance are the noteworthy 32 sonatas for the piano; the string quartets 1-16; the Missa solemnis; and likewise, his only opera, Fidelio. Beethoven Overview First of all, Beethoven was born and consequently raised in Bonn. Upon turning 21 he moved to Vienna probably to study composition with Haydn. That’s when he consequently grew a reputation as a brilliant pianist. Furthermore, he probably stayed in Vienna the rest of his life. In his late 20s it seems like his hearing certainly began to decline. It slowly declined until consequently he was nearly totally deaf probably by the last decade of his life. As a result, he stopped conducting and performing. Nevertheless, he continued to compose. As a result, some of his greatest works probably come from this period. First Period Seems like we often divide Beethoven’s life into three periods. Period 1 begins with Beethoven’s arrival in Vienna. Hence, during this period, he mastered the Viennese style of Haydn & Mozart. He consequently began increasing the size and scale of his works. Furthermore, he experimented with extreme dynamics, and likewise extreme tempi. He worked similarly with chromatic harmony. His First and Second Symphonies therefore belong to this period. Other important works also belong here: the first six string quartets and the Sonata Pathétique, Op. 13. Second Period His second period probably began as soon as he realized that he was going deaf. During this period, it seems like he became obsessed with the idea of heroism. His works consequently become even larger and more massive. The most noteworthy of these include the symphonies 3 – 8, piano concertos 5& 6, 5 string quartets, several important piano sonatas (Waldstein and Appassionata), the Kreutzer violin sonata, the violin concerto and his only opera: Fidelio. Third Period In contrast, Beethoven's third period is branded above all by works of incredible intellectual depth, formal innovation, and penetrating expression. It seems like he continued to expand his works. Consequently, the string quartet Op. 131 spills over into seven connected movements. Likewise, in the Ninth Symphony he adds choral forces to his orchestra probably for the first time in history. This is an original prelude by Mozart plus his arrangement (in F major) of the Fugue in F# major by J.S. Bach, BWV 882 (from Book 2 of the Well Tempered Clavier). Mozart wrote this to play at the Sunday musicales of Baron van Swieten in Vienna, who insisted that all participants perform music of Bach or Handel. Kaplan is engaged in a project to make classics from other genres available to woodwind players and has also arranged several other great works for this ensemble. The woodwind quintet is especially well suited for contrapuntal music since the distinctive tone colors of the wind instruments bring out the contrapuntal lines and make them clearer to the listener.Note that all six preludes and all six fugues from this work are also available as a single purchase on this website. This third Prelude and Fugue is being made available here for those who would rather buy one prelude and fugue at a time.

The main melody is given to the oboe, with the flute doubling at the octave. I have created sustaining semibreves in the horn part to hold the crescendo section together. Finally I have transposed the piece from D to Eb major Ave verum corpus (Hail, true body) is a motet in D major (K. 618), composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It is a setting of the 14th century Eucharistic hymn in Latin Ave verum corpus in 1791. Mozart wrote it for Anton Stoll, a friend of Mozart and Joseph Haydn. Stoll was the musical coordinator in the parish of Baden bei Wien, near Vienna. This setting of the Ave verum corpus text was composed to celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi; the autograph is dated 17 June 1791. It is only forty-six bars long and is scored for SATB choir, string instruments, and organ. Mozart's manuscript contains minimal directions, with only a single sotto voce at the beginning. Mozart composed part of the Requiem in Vienna in late 1791, but it was unfinished at his death on 5 December the same year. A completed version dated 1792 by Franz Xaver Süssmayr was delivered to Count Franz von Walsegg, who commissioned the piece for a requiem service on 14 February 1792 to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of his wife Anna at the age of 20 on 14 February 1791. This is no 4 of the Sequenz Recordare At 130 measures, the Recordare (Remember) is the work's longest movement, as well as the first in triple meter the movement is a setting of no fewer than seven stanzas of the Dies irae. The form of this piece is somewhat similar to sonata form, with an exposition around two themes (mm. 1–37), a development of two themes (mm. 38–92) and a recapitulation (mm. 93–98). It suits the wind quintet. Section III of the requiem is titled “Sequenz†(sequentia or sequence). Orfeo ed Euridice (French: Orphée et Eurydice; English: Orpheus and Eurydice) is an opera composed by Christoph Willibald Gluck, based on the myth of Orpheus and set to a libretto by Ranieri de' Calzabigi. It belongs to the genre of the azione teatrale, meaning an opera on a mythological subject with choruses and dancing. The piece was first performed at the Burgtheater in Vienna on 5 October 1762, in the presence of Empress Maria Theresa. Orfeo ed Euridice is the first of Gluck's reform operas, in which he attempted to replace the abstruse plots and overly complex music of opera seria with a noble simplicity in both the music and the drama. The opera is the most popular of Gluck's works, and was one of the most influential on subsequent German operas. Variations on its plot-the underground rescue-mission in which the hero must control, or conceal, his emotions-can be found in Mozart's The Magic Flute, Beethoven's Fidelio, and Wagner's Das Rheingold. Though originally set to an Italian libretto, Orfeo ed Euridice owes much to the genre of French opera, particularly in its use of accompanied recitative and a general absence of vocal virtuosity. Indeed, twelve years after the 1762 premiere, Gluck re-adapted the opera to suit the tastes of a Parisian audience at the Académie Royale de Musique with a libretto by Pierre-Louis Moline. This reworking was given the title Orphée et Eurydice, and several alterations were made in vocal casting and orchestration to suit French tastes.

The second movement Allegretto is a funeral march in everything but name. As he was working on this symphony during the years of the Napoleonic Wars, this experience was probably within his experience. The popularity of the waltz in Vienna began during the 1820s when it was still developing from a lively peasant dance popular amongst all classes into its later, more elegant phase. These dances were written after 1824 - probably for Schubert's own gatherings and published by Schubert for use in the large dance halls which were all the rage at the time. The three dances would have been played as one continuous piece for dancing and the tempo would not alter.

A selection of 3 Pieces: Gavotte, Gavotte Gracieuse and Pantomine.Clarinet part in Bb/AHorn Part in F/ALes petits riens (French for The Little Nothings) is a ballet in one act and three tableaux by Jean-Georges Noverre, with music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and other unknown composers, possibly including François-Joseph Gossec[citation needed], first performed at the Academie Royale de Music in Paris on 11 June 1778.While Mozart was staying in Paris, Noverre asked him to compose a new score for a ballet that he had created in Vienna in 1767. The ballet was to be danced as an interlude in the new opera Le finte gemelle by Niccolò Piccinni.[1] The opera was a flop and closed after four performances. Although the ballet music was well-received,[2] Mozart was not credited with it, and he was at the time little-known in Paris.This arrangement for wind quintetHorn parts are for natural horns in F and A.Clarinet in Bb/A.The score, catalogued as K. 299b, was thought lost, but it was rediscovered in the Paris Opera's archives in the late 19th century[1] and has since entered both the ballet and symphonic repertoire.
