Large Ensemble Alto Recorder,Baritone Recorder,Bassoon,Flute,Oboe,Soprano Recorder,Tenor Recorder - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.742464 Composed by Anthony Holborne, Claude Gervaise, Etienne du Tertre, F. Giesbert, Michael Praetorius, and Pierre Caroubel. Arranged by Javier MartÃnez Maya. Concert,Instructional,Renaissance,Standards. Score and parts. 45 pages. Arte Nova Music Lab #4363001. Published by Arte Nova Music Lab (A0.742464). Renaissance music is European music written from about the year 1400 to 1600. This section of time is called the Renaissance, a word which means rebirth. The Renaissance comes between the Middle Ages and the Baroque times.Putting music into time sections does not mean that there were quick changes of type. Music changed slowly, and early Renaissance music was similar to Medieval music. Slowly music-writers started to try new ideas. A lot of medieval church music had become very hard with lots of rules about rhythms and clashes of notes to make dissonances. A lot of Renaissance composers wrote music which was smoother and more gentle. The music was still polyphonic with each voice having a share of melody. Music was starting to become less modal and more tonal. By the time the Baroque period started composers were using a system of major and minor keys like we do today.Taken from https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renaissance_music

Composed by Various. Arranged by Socrates Arvanitakis. Renaissance. Individual part. 77 pages. Socrates Arvanitakis #889149. Published by Socrates Arvanitakis
This collection contains sixty easy Renaissance pieces from various European countries, and from works of well known, but also obscure or anonymous composers, transcribed for the classical guitar mainly from lute, vihuela, and bandore sources. The pieces will be published in three volumes, each volume containing twenty pieces. <br> I have tried to include pieces of varied difficulty in all three volumes and also to keep the upper level of technical difficulty to the contemporary grade IV level of the A.B.R.S.M. which takes the student to the intermediate level (grades IV-VI).<br> The pieces in each volume are given in two versions, first as decorated pages in ordinary notation, and then the same pieces are again given in undecorated pages of notation and tablature. Therefore each volume contains two books in one and the choice is left to the user whether to keep the volume as presented, or to construct his own book by inclusion or deletion of unwanted pages, blank pages, etc, for use either as a printed or a tablet-screen book version. The addition of tablature of course results in doubling the number of pages needed for the presentation of the pieces, therefore the staff sizes are here reduced to an appropriate degree which can maintain the two-page view principle of any piece without need for automatic or manual page turners, foot pedals etc.<br> The inclusion of tablatures which shows a preference for open string combinations whenever that is possible, clarifies sufficiently the left hand playing positions without need for additional fingerings.<br> Having said that, my professional advice to all guitar students is to abandon completely their reliance on tablatures and study seriously through many easy collections of music such as the present one in order to familiarise themselves to all aspects of musical notation. And always have in mind that tablatures were invented and still are in use only for fretted instruments, and only due to commercial (publisher’s) considerations primarily, while other string instrumentalists neither have them available, nor need them in order to study/play music.<br> <br> Metronome marks are only suggestions that need not be taken too literally and are placed mainly for guiding a score writer programme such as Sibelius for performance and extraction of audio and video files. To this end many other expression and/or technique and tempo marks may have been added to the score and made invisible.<br> <br> NAVIGATION INDEXES – External and Internal links<br> <br> The second page in every volume is an index divided into three columns. The first column has the titles of the pieces as active invisible links which take the user to the relevant tablature page. The header of that page brings the user back to this index.<br> The second column has visible links (in frames) to live performances of the pieces either by professional guitarists or students, which are only for getting familiar with the music, but not as suggestions that particular performances should be followed for study purposes.<br> The third column contains active links to information about particular composers, found mainly in Wikipedia, but sometimes also in other external sources.<br> The third page in every volume contains a thematic index of active links to the decorated (without tablatures) pages of the pieces. The header of every decorated page brings the user back to this index.<br> Finally, the titles of all decorated and tablature pages are active links of interconnection between these pages.<br> <br> This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard’s global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters. ArrangeMe allows for the publication of unique arrangements of both popular titles and original compositions from a wide variety of voices and backgrounds. This collection contains sixty easy Renaissance pieces from various European countries, and from works of well known, but also obscure or anonymous composers, transcribed for the classical guitar mainly from lute, vihuela, and bandore sources. Ukulele - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1148100 By Michael P Walker. By Melchioro de Barberis and Giacomo Gorzanis. Arranged by Michael P Walker. Classical,Renaissance. Score. 33 pages. Michael P Walker #748290. Published by Michael P Walker (A0.1148100). Melchior de Barberis (1500-1549) was an Italian lutenist and composer. His book Opera Intitolata Contina was published in Venice in 1549. Most of the book is dedicated to the lute, but the final few pages of the book contain 4 pieces (fantasias) for the renaissance guitar. Barberis refers to the instrument as the chitara da sette corde (guitar with seven strings). Giacomo Gorzanis, (1525 – 1578), was a lute virtuoso, blind, and possibly a member of the nobility. He was born in Apulia, near Naples, and probably trained at the Spanish court in Bari. Gorzanis traveled to Austria where he became a citizen and where he published four collections of lute tablature and two collections of Neapolitan lute songs. About Michael P Walker I studied guitar at Birmingham-Southern College under David Walpert who was a student of Andre Segovia and I have been playing guitar, ukulele, Baroque guitar, and the lute for more than fifty years. Just as Adrian Le Roy published these pieces to expand the repertoire of the Renaissance guitar, I have transcribed these compositions with the hope of exposing this rich, beautiful music from the Renaissance to a wider audience of guitar and ukulele players. Along with this book, there are more than 80 books of arrangements of Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, and Romantic era music for the baritone ukulele and there are more than Thirty-Five others with arrangements for the Low G ukulele. You can find them here: https://morgancomusic.com.

Ukulele - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.810031 Composed by Antonio Rotta. Arranged by Michael P. Walker. Renaissance. Score. 182 pages. Michael P Walker #6071635. Published by Michael P Walker (A0.810031). Here are 48 lute compositions from the Renaissance by Antonio Rotta, (1495-1549) who was an Italian lutenist, composer, and music teacher of the Renaissance period in Padua which was part of the Republic of Venice and renowned for its university. Canon Scardeonius of Padua wrote in 1560 that Rotta was not only virtually unrivaled in Italy as a lutenist, but was also an excellent teacher and had grown quite rich by giving lessons on the lute. These pieces have been transcribed for the baritone ukulele, Renaissance guitar, low G ukelele, and many other four-course instruments. Of course, they may all be played on the guitar.

Oboe,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1485586 Composed by Various. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Early Music,Renaissance. Score and part. 17 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #1062647. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1485586). These are eleven of the most well-known dances of the Renaissance, (in five movements) selected from the famous collection entitled Terpsichore, published in 1612 by Michael Praetorius. They are sure to be a welcome addition to the oboe player's repertoire. The notes of the oboe part have been kept well within the elementary range and the highest note is the B just above the treble staff.By the time Michael Praetorius published his dance collection, he was one of the most famous musicians in Germany. The name is pronounced terp-SI-cory and rhymes with the word “hickory”. The original publication consisted of 312 dances in four, five and six parts. Although the dances were probably conceived for string ensemble Praetorius was well aware that in practice, they would be played by any instruments that happened to be available. These arrangements for oboe and keyboard are based on the original 1612 publication. The music sounds more authentic using a harpsichord rather than a piano, or the harpsichord sound of a digital keyboard. The keyboard part may be interpreted quite freely with ornamentation added as appropriate. During the Renaissance, it was common practice to combine separate dances to create something of more substantial duration. A similar practice is used in these arrangements which are as follows: 1. Three Gavottes; 2. Two Ballets; 3. Two Bourées; 4. Two Courantes and 5. Two Voltas. These delightful dances are sure to add a sparkle to any oboe recital.

Three Gavottes; 2. Two Ballets; 3. Two Bourées; 4. Two Courantes and 5. Two Voltas.

Bassoon,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1487747 Composed by Various. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Baroque,Renaissance. Score and part. 17 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #1064685. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1487747). These are eleven of the most well-known dances of the Renaissance set in five movements and selected from the famous collection entitled Terpsichore, published in 1612 by Michael Praetorius. They are sure to be a welcome addition to the elementary bassoon repertoire and make a pleasing performance item at a recital. The bassoon part is in the bass clef throughout and the highest note is usually the D above the bass staff. In a couple of pieces, the next note E is used.By the time Michael Praetorius published his dance collection, he was one of the most famous musicians in Germany. The name is pronounced “terp-SI-cory” and rhymes with the word “hickory”. The original publication consisted of 312 dances in four, five and six parts. Although the dances were probably conceived for string ensemble, Praetorius was well aware that in practice they would be played by any instruments that happened to be available. These arrangements for bassoon and keyboard are based on the original 1612 publication. Guitar - Intermediate - Digital Download SKU: M0.93430EB Solos. Early Music / Renaissance. E-book. 21 pages. Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music #93430EB. Published by Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music (M0.93430EB). ISBN 9781513455174. 8.75x11.75 inches. The Renaissance Era covered a span of years from approximately 1450-1600. The lute occupied an important position in the instrumental music of the times because it was one of the first instruments for which any large quantity of music was written. The lute was also the most common yet most highly regarded musical instrument of the 16th century. All the pieces in this volume were originally written for the lute. Each one has been carefully transcribed and edited in modern music notation for the classic guitar which is the ideal instrument for recreating this beautiful polyphonic music of long ago.

Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1327548 Composed by Various. Arranged by Socrates Arvanitakis. Renaissance. Individual part. 83 pages. Socrates Arvanitakis #915591. Published by Socrates Arvanitakis (A0.1327548). FROM THE PREFACEThe fourth volume of Renaissance music for classical guitar contains twenty mostly well-known and a few more rare intermediate Renaissance pieces taken mainly from lute and vihuela sources. I have tried to keep the upper level of technical difficulty to the contemporary grade VI level of the A.B.R.S.M. which takes the student to the advanced level (grades VII-VIII).The pieces are given in two versions, first as decorated pages in ordinary notation, and then the same pieces are again given in undecorated pages of notation and tablature. Therefore each volume contains two books in one and the choice is left to the user whether to keep the volume as presented, or to construct his own book by inclusion or deletion of unwanted pages, blank pages, etc, for use either as a printed or a tablet-screen book version. The addition of tablature of course results in increasing the number of pages needed for the presentation of the pieces, therefore the staff sizes are here reduced to an appropriate degree which can maintain the two-page view principle of any piece without need for automatic or manual page turners, foot pedals etc.THEMATIC INDEX OF THIS VOLUME  & NAVIGATION BY ACTIVE LINKSThe thematic index following the cover page of this volume contains active links to the decorated pages of the pieces. The titles of the pieces are also active links interconnecting decorated and tablature pages of the same piece. The header in pages containing  the title of a piece is an active link bringing back to the thematic index. The YOUTUBE logo icons in the thematic index are external links to particular performances of these pieces by various artists.Socrates ArvanitakisLondon 2023CONTENTSPavana 1 Luys MilanPavana 2 L. Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Oboe - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1384330 By Matthew H Schwarz. By Matthew H Schwarz. Arranged by Matthew H Schwarz. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical,Folk,New Age. 7 pages. Matthew H Schwarz #968645. Published by Matthew H Schwarz (A0.1384330). A lovely quartet for flute, oboe, Bb clarinet, and bassoon written in the style of Renaissance counterpoint. 3 page score (1 page parts), about 2 minutes in duration.  This was written while I was studying 16th Century counterpoint, and I thought it was so nice I arranged it for woodwind quartet. Do to the nature of the style, each part has only about an octave range, there's only a few accidentals, and the rhythms aren't too complicated. The main challenges for the less advanced musician would be the slow pace in 4/2 time and the long flowing phrases.
