\\\"Resonet in Laudibus\\\" (\\\"Let the voice of praise resound\\\") is a Medieval carol known in Europe at least since its appearance in the Moosburg Gradual of 1360, and probably much earlier. Today, it is well-known as the tune accompanying the text of the traditional German carol, \\\"Joseph Lieber, Joseph Mein\\\" (\\\"Joseph Dearest, Joseph Mine\\\") and John Mason Neale\\\'s \\\"Christ Was Born on Christmas Day.\\\"

The tune appears in the Medieval songbook, Piae Cantiones (Pious Songs), compiled by the Finnish priest and headmaster Jaakko Suomalainen (aka Jacobus Finno, or \\\"James the Finn\\\") and published in 1582. Ralph Vaughan Williams harmonized the tune and included it in the English Hymnal (1906), of which he was music editor.

This lovely, lilting tune is an ideal vehicle for a sonorous arrangement for brass quintet.

Wagner composed five songs or lieder for voice and piano in 1857-58 based on poems by Mathilde Wesendonck, the wife of one of his patrons, and have thus been known as the Wesendonck Lieder over time. Three of them: Der Engel (The Angel), Schmerzen (Sorrows), and Tr�ume (Dreams) have been beautifully arranged for solo Trombone (may be performed on Tenor or Bass Trombone) and 5-part Trombone Ensemble by Bob Burnham. They are very beautiful to listen to!

Of musical interest....Wagner inscribed the movement Tr�ume as being a "study for Tristan and Isolde".

The three movements are about 9-minutes in length and this arrangement is appropriate for moderately advanced to advanced performers and will add a great deal of musical depth to your recital or concert.

This instrumental quartet version was created with ensemble practice in mind for beginning music school students who want more contact with baroque music, ideal also for liturgical performances in churches, since it is a sacred work. This version lasts 3:19 minutes with the original melody adapted with the harmony divided between the voices of the performers.

Jesu joy of man's desiring or Wohl mir, da� ich Jesum habe (I am happy to have Jesus) is a chorale from the cantata 147 "Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben" or "Heart and mouth and deed and life" from the B. W. V 147 catalog composed by Johann Sebastian Bach around 1723, where the same music in different stanzas of a chorale closes both parts of the cantata.

A hallmark of this American TV series is each episode's opening scene, in which Briggs or Phelps receives his instructions from a faceless voice, delivered on a recording which then self-destructs; this is immediately followed by the theme music, composed by Lalo Schifrin. This music is presented here in an exciting arrangement for trombone quartet with optional drum kit; it works as a great opener to a concert.
