Aus der \"Anweisung zum Flötenspiel\" op. 106. Composed by Kaspar Kummer. Arranged by Werner Richter. This edition: Sheet music. Flöte im Salon. Downloadable. Musikverlag Zimmermann #Q54601. Published by Musikverlag Zimmermann
Taken from the \"Instructions for playing the flute\", op. 106, published between 1840 and 1846, this edition could also be described as a short excursion into the history of the opera. This was an aspect that Kummer certainly had in mind when adding these pieces to his main didactic work. Ideally suited for instruction and audition.

He studied music at the Conservatory of Venice, where he excelled in both composition and performance.Bottazzo’s music is characterized by its romanticism and lyricism, and he is particularly known for his operas and choral works. His most famous opera is “Francesca da Rimini,†which was based on the famous tragic love story of Paolo and Francesca from Dante’s “Inferno.â€In addition to his work as a composer, Bottazzo was also a respected conductor, and he served as the musical director of several Italian opera houses, including La Scala in Milan and the Teatro Regio in Turin.Bottazzo’s music was highly regarded in his lifetime, and he received many honors and awards for his contributions to Italian music. Today, his music is less well-known outside of Italy, but his operas and choral works continue to be performed and recorded by musicians and ensembles throughout the country.

(c) 2020 Schott Music GmbH & Co. KG, Mainz. Classical. Downloadable. Op. 34. 27 pages. Schott Music - Digital #Q53377. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q53377). English • German. As a pupil of Antonin Reicha at the Paris Conservatoire Eugène Walckiers, originally from the French part of Flanders, joined the ranks of illustrious French composers such as Hector Berlioz, Charles Gounod and César Franck. He studied the flute with Jean-Louis Tulou and was one of the few celebrated flute virtuosos of the time whose reputation has survived to this day, thanks to their compositions for and including the flute. He himself played regularly in a legendary quartet with the best flautists of his day: Jean Firmin Brossa, Johannes Donjon and Paul Taffanel. This Fantaisie sur des Motifs de l’Opera “Guillaume Tell†was published in the year following the first performance of the opera both by Schott in Mainz and, with insignificant discrepancies, by Troupenas in Paris (Plate number 374), the original publisher of Rossini’s last four operas. Plate no. 3289 / published in 1830.

(c) 2020 Schott Music GmbH & Co. KG, Mainz. Classical. Downloadable. Op. 71. 15 pages. Schott Music - Digital #Q53291. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q53291). English • German.Jacques Offenbach, son of a Jewish cantor, was born in Cologne on 20.6.1819; he died in Paris on 5.10.1880. In 1833 his father took his fourteen-year-old son to the Paris Conservatoire, where the director Luigi Cherubini was impressed by his cello playing and accepted him as a student, even though foreign candidates were not normally admitted there. Offenbach then changed his first name ‘Jacob’ to ‘Jacques’. From 1835 he worked as a cellist at the Paris Opéra comique, making ends meet by teaching and performing. From 1850 to 1855 he was Director of Music at the Théâtre Français. He then found his own theatre to rent in Paris and put on highly successful productions of his operetta Orpheus in the Underworld (1858) and other stage works. During his lifetime he had twenty cello compositions published by Schott, among them the tutorial method Cours Méthodique de Duos pour deux Violoncelles op. 49 and various operatic arrangements for cello and piano based on themes by Bellini, Donizetti, Mozart and others - including this Fantaisie facile sur l’Opéra de Rossini: Le Barbier de Seville op. 71 in 1856 (plate no. 11461).

Concert Band - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1505894 Composed by Giuseppe Verdi. Arranged by Albert Schwarzmann. 19th Century,Opera,Romantic Period. 419 pages. Edition Schwalbe #1081273. Published by Edition Schwalbe (A0.1505894). Giuseppe Verdi had the ambition to get some of his operas first performed in Paris. So he composed Don Carlos first in French, and he also had to deliver a ballet. Ballo della regina is kept as an interlude in the third act of the opera, which premiered on 11 March 1865 at Opéra National de Paris. The arrangement is kept in the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra and was commissioned by Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg. Due to an overlength program they performed not the whole ballet music, but only the final. It was first time performed conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their Three Kings' Concert on 6 January 2017 at the Grosses Festspielhaus (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria. A live recording of this concert is available at https://www.salzburg-windphilharmonic.at/de/viva-litalia/ or https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/viva-l-italia/hnum/10428716?iampartner=303&subid=umr12&ref=partner.jpc.de .

Key Signature: F♯ MinorTime Signature: 3/4Tempo: Allegro non troppo (not too much, also mind the sustained/connected stacc. melody)Difficulty: Advanced (very)Felix Mikhailovich Blumenfeld (19 April 1863 [O.S. 7 April] – 21 January 1931) was a Russian composer, conductor, pianist, and teacher. He was born in Kovalevka, Kherson Governorate, Russian Empire (today - part of Kropyvnytskyi, Ukraine), the son of Mikhail Frantsevich Blumenfeld and the Polish Marie Szymanowska, and studied composition at the St. Petersburg Conservatory under Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and piano under Fedor Stein between 1881 and 1885. He then taught piano there himself from 1885 until 1918, whilst also serving as conductor of the Mariinsky Theatre until 1911.This theatre saw the premieres of the operas composed by his teacher and mentor Rimsky-Korsakov, and he was also the conductor at the Russian premiere of Wagner's opera Tristan und Isolde. In 1908, he conducted the Paris premiere of Modest Mussorgsky's opera Boris Godunov. From 1918 to 1922, he was the director of the Music-drama school of Mykola Lysenko in Kiev, where, amongst others, Vladimir Horowitz was a pupil in his masterclasses. He returned to the Moscow Conservatory in 1922, teaching there until his death. Other famous pupils of his include Simon Barere, Maria Yudina and Maria Grinberg. He died in Moscow. As a pianist, he played many of the compositions of his Russian contemporaries. His compositions, which showed the influence of Frédéric Chopin and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, include a symphony, pieces for solo piano, an Allegro de Concert for piano and orchestra, and lieder. His virtuoso pieces for piano in particular are enjoying something of a renaissance in recent years. He was the uncle of Heinrich Neuhaus and first cousin, once removed of Karol Szymanowski (Felix and Karol's father, Stanislaw Szymanowski, were cousins).(Wikipedia).

Cellos - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1125668 Composed by Johann Justus Friedrich Dotzauer. Arranged by Michele Galvagno. 19th Century,Children,Instructional,Opera,Romantic Period. Educational Exercises. 66 pages. Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele #726403. Published by Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele (A0.1125668). The Twelve Original Pieces for Two Cellos, dedicated to beginners, Op. 63, by J. J. F. Dotzauer (1783—1860) is a most colourful collection, containing a spicy mix of arias from famous operas, original themes, and fugues. The arias are mostly from W. A. Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito, and G. Rossini’s Tancredi, with a theme and variation from The Magic Flute crowning them all. Even without employing the thumb, these pieces are challenging, and should not be underestimated. They explore all seven positions, making this the most well-rounded collection of the five (Opp. 52, 58, 156, 159), and a must-have for all cello students. This edition comes in two versions, Original & Collectors’ Edition. The Original version is available in either of the following variants: score only, parts only, and score & parts. It is based on the first edition published by Dotzauer at Breitkopf & Härtel in 1823. The Collector’s Edition adds the new edition of these pieces appeared in the 57 Little Duets compiled by Johannes Klingenberg (1852—1905), and in the early XX century edition by Alwin Schöder (1855—1928). Kristopher James Murdock #3097989. Published by Kristopher James Murdock (A0.893704). Music teachers -- piano, vocal, or music theatre! Are you wondering how to pique the interest of your students (and their recital audiences) in the heightened and ever shifting musical emotionalism of the Romantic style, while staying relevant to today by using a timeless story that arrests their attention? Do you need an expressive recital piece that will demonstrate your students' abilities in a wide range of expression? The solution to both of these problems is this dramatic piano-vocal arrangement of Behind The Maestro's Mask, from Revelation & Restoration's musical The Maestro's Mask: The Untold Story of the Opera Ghost. The song allows intermediate singers to moderately challenge their vocal emotional expression, and you may wish to accompany them yourself on the piano, yet it's also useful as an instrumental solo piece for a piano student. With music based on the A-C sections of Chopin's Polonaise, Op. 26, No. 1 in C# minor and Db major, but transposed and adapted in the easier keys of G minor and G major, this piece will act as a step up for your moderately advanced piano student, preparing for Chopin's work. (There are significant differences between this song and Chopin's Polonaise, particularly on pages 1 and 8-11.)Disclaimer: This piece quotes from Frédéric Chopin's public domain work, Polonaise, Op. 26, No. 1 and is part of Revelation & Restoration's musical The Maestro's Mask: The Untold Story of the Opera Ghost, which is based on a sequel to Gaston LeRoux's public domain novel Le Fantôme de l'Opéra. The musical is not a sequel to Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical version of The Phantom of the Opera. Revelation & Restoration is not affiliated with Andrew Lloyd Webber or The Really Useful Group.

Cellos - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1146959 Composed by Friedrich August Kummer. Arranged by Michele Galvagno. 19th Century,Chamber,Instructional,Opera,Romantic Period. Educational Exercises. 84 pages. Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele #747161. Published by Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele (A0.1146959). Friedrich August Kummer (1797—1879) produced less pedagogical material compared to his two great predecessors, Dotzauer and Romberg, but what survived to this day is of the greatest quality. The Eight Grand Studies for Cello, with optional accompaniment of a second Cello, Op. 44, were composed when Kummer was first solo cello at the Dresden Court Opera (1854—64). All of them use the thumb in some way, while two are specifically dedicated to the thumb position. No. 7, in C minor, uses the melody from Rossini’s aria “Dal tuo stellato soglio†from the opera Mosé in Egitto, showing how great an influence his work as an opera cellist had on him. This edition comes in two versions, Original & Collectors’ Edition. The Original version contains, for the first time since their composition, the Urtext score and parts, and is available for digital download right now and will be printed in Q1 2023. The Collectors’ Edition contains, in digital download, the Urtext score and parts, the score and parts of the revision by the legendary Milan Conservatory professor Giuseppe Magrini, and the cello part of the revision by the Paris Conservatory professor Jules Loeb (André Navarra’s teacher).

Jmsgu3 #3557749. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549863). Beethoven Sonata Op. 49 No. 2 arranged for string orchestra. Duration: 10:15 Score: 28 pages, 242 measures. In two movements. I arranged this for my own beginner orchestra. Easy to rehearse and perform. Very popular with the audience. Sonata Op. 49 No. 2 Arranged from Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 20, this is a simple but interesting work in two movements showing the composers sense of humor. The first movement Allegro ma non troppo and the second movement Tempo di Menuetto are both in the key of G. Both Sonatas 19 and 20 (op. 49, No. 1 & 2) are named Easy Sonatas because they are technically easier than the usual Beethoven Sonatas. This makes them very popular among students and teachers alike. Beethoven Background Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 –1827) was certainly a German pianist. Above all, he was probably one of the greatest composers in history. As a result, he is a pivotal character in the progress between the Classical and Romantic periods. He is certainly one of the most famous and hence important of all composers. Seems like his most familiar and noteworthy works include symphonies 1-9; piano concertos 1-5; and furthermore, the violin concerto. Also, certainly of extreme importance are the noteworthy 32 sonatas for the piano; the string quartets 1-16; the Missa solemnis; and likewise, his only opera, Fidelio. Beethoven Overview First of all, Beethoven was born and consequently raised in Bonn. Upon turning 21 he moved to Vienna probably to study composition with Haydn. That’s when he consequently grew a reputation as a brilliant pianist. Furthermore, he probably stayed in Vienna the rest of his life. In his late 20s it seems like his hearing certainly began to decline. It slowly declined until consequently he was nearly totally deaf probably by the last decade of his life. As a result, he stopped conducting and performing. Nevertheless, he continued to compose. As a result, some of his greatest works probably come from this period. First Period Seems like we often divide Beethoven’s life into three periods. Period 1 begins with Beethoven’s arrival in Vienna. Hence, during this period, he mastered the Viennese style of Haydn & Mozart. He consequently began increasing the size and scale of his works. Furthermore, he experimented with extreme dynamics, and likewise extreme tempi. He worked similarly with chromatic harmony. His First and Second Symphonies therefore belong to this period. Other important works also belong here: the first six string quartets and the Sonata Pathétique, Op. 13. Second Period His second period probably began as soon as he realized that he was going deaf. During this period, it seems like he became obsessed with the idea of heroism. His works consequently become even larger and more massive. The most noteworthy of these include the symphonies 3 – 8, piano concertos 5& 6, 5 string quartets, several important piano sonatas (Waldstein and Appassionata), the Kreutzer violin sonata, the violin concerto and his only opera: Fidelio. Third Period In contrast, Beethoven's third period is branded above all by works of incredible intellectual depth, formal innovation, and penetrating expression. It seems like he continued to expand his works. Consequently, the string quartet Op. 131 spills over into seven connected movements. Likewise, in the Ninth Symphony he adds choral forces to his orchestra probably for the first time in history. Even more, other works from this period include his Missa solemnis, the final 5 string quartets (including the enormous Große Fuge) and the final five sonatas for piano. www.jamesguthrie.com.
