Carrickfergus is a coastal town on the eastern side ofNorthern Ireland. It is well-known for its castle, as a holiday destination butmostly for the beautiful nostalgic song that shares its name. The origin of themelody goes back at least three centuries and the modern version is probably ahybrid of two songs.

This arrangement is part of a series I amproducing which will allow gatherings of guitarists of all levels to playtogether. As a guitarist and guitar teacher, I?ve noticed how arrangements willoften be too easy for some and too hard for others leaving many ensembleplayers frustrated or dissatisfied. This is a deficiency I am resolving.

My aim is to create arrangements which arestimulating for all. I have done this by tailoring parts to suit the differenttechnical and musical experience of each level of guitarist. This makes thearrangements particularly suitable for guitar societies, school groups andfestivals. The required levels are approximated below. As an experienced musicianand composer, I have added many points of musical interest such as modulations,chord substitutions and counterpoint. This also gives teachers and leaders tothe chance to teach their groups about these devices in the context of learninga real work. Guitars 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 7 all play the main melody at somepoint (Guitar 6 being for near-beginners).

Technical Requirements��

� Guitars1 & 2 will suit players of Grade 6 (intermediate/advanced) standard or above. There is somehigh-position work.

� Guitars3 & 4 are suitable for players of about Grade 4 (intermediate) standard.

� Guitar5 is suitable for a player of about Grade 2 (beginner) standard.

� Guitar6 is suitable for near-beginners. It is mainly open strings with some first-positionstopped notes. Although it is a technically-easy part, it is very motivatingfor guitarists in their early stages to play with a large ensemble. This partis optional.

� Guitar7 is suitable for players of about Grade 5 (intermediate) standard. The bass line hasornamentation, a lot of rhythmic interest and at times, the melody.

Teachers and player can also benefit fromthe fact that a recording of the arrangement, with performance notes, is alwaysavailable on-line.

Perhapsour instrument?s greatest joy is the fact that it exists in so many forms andstyles of music. Some players prefer the electric guitar and read from TAB,others have a classical background and are therefore more familiar with notes;others still prefer reading from chord charts with fretboard diagrams.

Thisdownload considers all of these musicians.

Guitar1 is the main tune, as played by Hank Marvin in The iconic recording made byThe Shadows. The music is provided in both notes and TAB.

Guitar 2is a part with chords. This is given with chord symbols, fretboard diagrams andrhythm patterns.

Guitar3 is designed to include the less-experienced player. It is in open positionand the part, being easy to read, is given in notes. This is an optional part.

Guitar 4is a transcription of the bass line. It is an interesting andrhythmically-exciting part. It is in simple positions and is given in notesonly.

Guitar4 can also be played by a bass guitar. The part is also given in bass clef(sounding an octave lower).

A guitar arrangement of the mavellous Norwegian folk song that has many variants (one of the most popular version was done by Sissel, a Norwegian singer). This is the guitar arrangement of this song, made by Ukrainian guitarist, composer and teacher Eugen Sedko http://eugensedko.com. A good composition for students and for concert performance also, its melody sounds really nice. Notes and tabs together. I really enjoyed it while making an arrangement.

The arrangement's style is closer to rumba flamenca, it was made by a professional flamenco guitarist and teacher Eugen Sedko, more info: eugensedko.com. A beautiful concert theme for a classical / flamenco / fingerstyle guitar duo. Notes and tabs together. It's a good theme to develop the feeling of the Eastern melodic ornamentation, there is a lot of ornamentation here.

Johann Sebastian Bachas arrangements of the a69 Sacred Songsa from the Musical Hymnal by Georg Christian Schemelli (Leipzig, 1736) have long been part of the German language vocal concert repertoire and a mainstay in vocal pedagogy. Originally, only these 69 of the 954 hymns in the collection were published with a single bass line as the accompaniment. Bachas contribution was to specify harmonies to be played over those same bass lines by adding figured bass numbers and symbols beneath each note.A figured bass line can easily be turned into a relatively simple guitar accompaniment or a more elaborate setting, offering a range of possibilities that make working with this music both interesting and rewarding for the guitarist. While other period and modern editions of the a69 Sacred Songsa offer accompaniments for keyboard instruments, this Mel Bay publication features intermediate to advanced transcriptions exclusively for the guitar. Best suited to college-level players or advanced aficionados, this special Mel Bay Publications edition includes the vocal line with German lyrics and the guitar accompaniment transcribed from Bachas figured bass lines. This is a flamenco guitar arrangement of Malague�a, a pianopiece written by Cuban pianist/composer Ernesto Lecuona. It was originallyadapted for solo Spanish/Flamenco guitar by Carlos Montoya in 1961 and is widely believed to have been originallywritten for the guitar. The fact that Lecuona wrote the piece in thestyle of Spain is likely what makes the Spanish guitar arrangement feel like itbelongs to the instrument. Anotherreason for its association with Spanish guitar is the fact that the main melodyfrom the piece was not Lecuona?s invention but was taken from the ?Malague�a? flamencoform, originating out of M�laga, Spain, in the 19th century. ?Malague�a,? andthe melodic lines associated with it, is one of the traditional styles of Flamenco/Andalusianmusic. This rendition is ?in the style of Sabicas,? a Spanish Gypsy guitaristwho is considered by many to be one of the finest flamenco solo guitarists of his time. Lecuona?sMalague�a is typically found as a solo piano piece in the key of C# Phrygian,whereas on the guitar, (as is the case with this arrangement) it isnormally arranged in E Phrygian.

This is a solo, classical guitar tremolo arrangement of The Godfather Love Theme. This version includes guitar tablature along with fingerings, barre markings and string designations in the notation staff. The particular version of the Godfather theme that this arrangement was taken from was actually entitled "Appollonia" in the original Godfather soundtrack. It is the version of the theme that occurs while Michael is consummating his marriage in Sicily and is presented with classical guitar accompaniment and a mandolin playing the melody. It is the only version the The Godfather Theme that is in 6/8 time, making it perfect for a solo, classical guitar tremolo arrangement.
